Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to support our construction team with material testing, quality control, and laboratory analysis. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for performing tests on construction materials (such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates) to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure the quality and safety of construction materials used on site.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Testing & Analysis:
Perform routine and specialized tests on construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates. Conduct tests according to standard procedures and report results accurately. Ensure that all materials are tested in compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and project specifications. Quality Control & Assurance:
Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and protocols for materials testing. Monitor and ensure the consistent quality of materials used in construction, providing feedback to project teams on findings. Conduct regular inspections of lab equipment, ensuring it is maintained and calibrated to meet industry standards. Sample Collection & Preparation:
Collect material samples from construction sites, suppliers, and storage areas as required. Prepare and process samples for testing, including mixing, conditioning, or molding materials as necessary. Data Management & Reporting:
Record and document test results, making sure they are accurate, clear, and consistent with project specifications. Prepare detailed reports on test results, including findings, recommendations, and deviations from standards. Communicate test results and findings to engineers, site managers, and other project stakeholders. Safety & Compliance:
Ensure that all laboratory and field testing activities are carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. Follow and enforce proper waste disposal practices for hazardous materials used in testing. Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure that construction materials meet the necessary quality standards. Provide technical assistance in material selection, testing, and problem-solving when required. Qualifications:
Education:
A diploma or associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Materials Technology, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in laboratory testing or quality control is a plus. Experience:
1-3 years of experience in a laboratory or quality control role, ideally within the construction or civil engineering industry. Familiarity with material testing procedures for concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregates. Skills:
Basic knowledge of construction materials and their testing methods. Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and tools such as compression testing machines, sieves, and moisture meters. Ability to follow standardized testing procedures and maintain accurate records. Familiarity with construction standards and industry regulations (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO). Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Good communication skills to report findings to engineers and other team members. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
