SUSE/RHEL Migration Specialist (6-9 yrs)

Role Overview :

We are seeking experienced professionals for the role of SUSE to RHEL Migration Specialist. The role involves planning, executing, and supporting the migration of systems and applications from SUSE Linux to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless transition, minimal disruption to operations, and optimal performance post-migration.

Key Responsibilities :

- Plan, design, and execute the migration of SUSE Linux systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

- Assess current SUSE environment configurations, including hardware, software, and network components.

- Develop migration strategies and roadmaps, including data migration plans, system backups, and rollback procedures.

- Implement the migration process using automation tools and best practices to ensure consistency and minimize downtime.

- Perform system tuning and optimization post-migration to ensure all systems perform efficiently on RHEL.

- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues encountered during the migration process.

- Collaborate with IT infrastructure, network, and application teams to validate system compatibility and ensure all dependencies are addressed.

- Provide documentation on all migration processes, configurations, and any encountered issues.

- Train and support the IT operations team to manage and maintain RHEL systems post-migration.

- Ensure compliance with security policies and industry standards throughout the migration process.

Required Skills and Experience :

- Extensive experience in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration.

- Proven experience in migrating systems from SUSE to RHEL in enterprise environments.

- Proficiency with Linux system administration tools and commands.

- Experience in automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or similar.

- Strong understanding of Linux networking, storage, and virtualization.

- Familiarity with SUSE and RHEL support tools, repositories, and subscription models.

- Experience with backup and recovery processes during large-scale migrations.

- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues related to performance, compatibility, and security.

- Understanding of ITIL processes and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or SUSE Certified Engineer certification.

- Experience in automating Linux deployments and configurations using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.

Soft Skills :

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

- Ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple migration projects simultaneously.

Education :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
