Role & responsibilities

Roles of an Industrial Designer:

1. Concept Development:
   
• Generate new product ideas based on market trends, customer needs, and company goals.
• Create sketches, 3D models, and digital renderings of proposed designs.
2. Product Aesthetics & Ergonomics:
   
• Design visually appealing and user-friendly products that align with the brand identity.
• Ensure designs offer comfort, ease of use, and functionality.
3. Material & Manufacturing Feasibility:
   
• Work with material engineers to select suitable plastics and additives for durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
• Ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured using injection molding, extrusion, or other relevant processes.
4. Prototyping & Testing:
   
• Develop prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, or mockups.
• Test prototypes for strength, usability, and manufacturability, making design improvements accordingly.
5. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
   
• Work with marketing, sales, and R&D teams to align product design with business strategy.
• Coordinate with mold designers, production teams, and quality control for smooth manufacturing transitions.
6. Sustainability & Innovation:
   
• Explore eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes.
• Keep up with industry trends and introduce innovative features in product design.
7. Regulatory Compliance & Standards:
   
• Ensure designs meet safety, durability, and regulatory standards (BIS, FDA, etc.).
• Adhere to intellectual property rights and patents related to designs.
8. Cost & Production Efficiency:
   
• Design products with an optimal balance between cost, quality, and aesthetics.
• Work towards reducing material wastage and optimizing production time.
9. Documentation & Design Handover:
   
• Prepare detailed design specifications, CAD files, and BOM (Bill of Materials).
• Provide guidelines for mold manufacturing and assembly instructions.
