Live Streaming Support Engineer

Job Summary :

As a Live Streaming Support Engineer , you will be responsible for supporting the live streaming infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of high-quality streaming content, and troubleshooting issues in real-time during live events. You will provide technical assistance, monitor streaming platforms, and collaborate with other teams to ensure that streaming services remain stable and reliable, especially during high-demand events.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Live Stream Monitoring and Support :

• Provide real-time technical support during live streaming events to ensure smooth streaming and address any issues immediately.
• Monitor the streaming platforms, servers, and networks to ensure uninterrupted delivery of live video content.
• Coordinate with the technical team to ensure proper stream setup, including encoding, transcoding, and server configurations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve streaming issues such as buffering, latency, or server failures during live broadcasts.

2. Pre-event Setup and Configuration :

• Assist in setting up live streams, including encoding software configuration, stream URLs, stream keys, and server configurations.
• Test video/audio quality and streaming platforms before live events to ensure proper functionality.
• Work with production teams to configure and test streaming protocols (e.g., HLS , RTMP , WebRTC , DASH ) in advance of events.

3. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution :

• Quickly identify and resolve streaming issues during live broadcasts, including video/audio quality problems, network congestion, or server errors.
• Work with the engineering team to troubleshoot complex issues related to streaming infrastructure, content delivery networks (CDNs), and encoding settings.
• Document and report recurring technical issues, providing insights for future improvements in streaming services.

4. Performance Optimization :

• Monitor network performance, bandwidth usage, and server load to ensure optimal streaming quality and minimal latency.
• Implement strategies to optimize video delivery, including content delivery networks (CDNs), adaptive bitrate streaming, and error recovery mechanisms.
• Analyze post-event streaming performance to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions for future events.

5. Collaboration and Communication :

• Work closely with producers, content creators, and other teams to ensure all technical requirements for live streaming events are met.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and clients to provide updates on the status of streaming services, including incident reporting and resolution timelines.
• Provide post-event support and reports to ensure all live streaming incidents are captured, documented, and analyzed.

6. Maintenance and Updates :

• Regularly update and maintain streaming infrastructure, including servers, encoding systems, and software tools.
• Ensure all software, hardware, and systems are up-to-date to maintain compatibility with streaming technologies.
• Help maintain streaming platforms by performing routine checks on equipment, streaming software, and network configurations.

7. Documentation and Training :

• Maintain technical documentation for live streaming setups, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide training and support to internal teams and clients on the technical aspects of live streaming, including encoding, streaming protocols, and common troubleshooting techniques.
• Develop best practices for live stream setups and issue resolution to ensure consistency and reliability in live broadcasts.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience :
  • Proven experience in a Live Streaming Support Engineer or similar technical support role.
  • Hands-on experience with live streaming technologies, including RTMP , HLS , WebRTC , MPEG-DASH , and adaptive bitrate streaming .
  • Familiarity with video encoding software (e.g., FFmpeg , OBS , Wirecast , vMix ).
  • Experience with streaming platforms (e.g., YouTube Live , Twitch , Facebook Live , Wowza , AWS Media Services ).
  • Understanding of CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) and how they optimize streaming.
  • Experience with video and audio codecs (e.g., H.264 , H.265 , AAC , MP3 ).
  • Familiarity with network protocols and troubleshooting network issues affecting video delivery.

Preferred Skills :

• Experience with cloud-based streaming platforms (e.g., AWS MediaLive , Google Cloud Media , Microsoft Azure Media Services ).
• Understanding of server management and virtualization technologies (e.g., Docker , Kubernetes ).
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix-based operating systems and command-line tools.
• Experience with video production tools and workflows.
• Understanding of video streaming analytics and performance monitoring tools.
