1. Incident Management and Troubleshooting
-Level 2 Support: Handle escalated network issues from Level 1 support. Troubleshoot and resolve more complex network-related problems (e.g., connectivity issues, network degradation, hardware faults).
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and identify the root causes of network failures or performance issues. Work with vendors or Level 3 engineers if required for advanced troubleshooting.
-Ticket Resolution: Manage and resolve service tickets within defined SLAs, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption.
2. Network Configuration and Maintenance
-Device Configuration: Assist in the configuration, deployment, and management of networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points (WAPs).
-Network Monitoring: Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios) to keep track of network performance and availability.
-Firmware Updates: Apply firmware, software, and configuration updates to networking devices as per the organizations maintenance schedule.
3. Network Design and Implementation Assistance
-Network Design Collaboration: Assist in the design, planning, and deployment of network solutions in collaboration with Network Architects or Senior Engineers.
-Implementation Support: Provide support in implementing network upgrades or new solutions, ensuring smooth integration and operation within existing infrastructure.
4. Network Optimization
-Performance Tuning: Monitor the network's health and performance and apply
appropriate tweaks or changes to optimize performance (e.g., configuring load balancing, adjusting QoS parameters).
-Bandwidth Management: Analyze bandwidth usage and optimize the network to ensure quality service for critical applications.
5. Security Management
-Network Security: Assist in managing network security tools (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems) to ensure the network is protected from external and internal threats.
-Access Control: Implement and manage access control lists (ACLs), VPN configurations, and user access policies to ensure secure network usage.
6. Documentation and Reporting
-Documentation: Maintain accurate records of network configurations, network topologies, and changes made to the network.
-Reports: Generate performance, security, and incident reports for internal teams or clients to ensure proper follow-up and documentation.
7. Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams
-Vendor Liaison: Work closely with third-party vendors or service providers to resolve issues that may require external support or product replacements.
-Team Collaboration: Work with other IT teams (e.g., server, application, and security teams) to ensure seamless network operations in a multi-faceted IT environment.
8. Backup and Recovery
-Network Recovery: Assist in network disaster recovery planning, backup configurations, and provide support in case of a network failure or outage.
-Redundancy and Failover: Ensure that network redundancy (e.g., using HA pairs for switches or routers) and failover mechanisms are properly configured and tested.
9. Training and Knowledge Sharing
-Mentoring: Provide guidance and support to L1 engineers and junior staff, assisting with day-to-day troubleshooting and network operations.
-Continual Learning: Stay updated with the latest networking technologies, tools, and trends. Enhance personal knowledge and contribute to the team's knowledge base.
Candidate Profile
-Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite
- Good knowledge of Routing protocol like BGP/OSPF/ EIGRP.
- Good knowledge and hands-on experience of switching protocols and technologies like STP/MSTP/RSTP/VLAN/Ether-channel.
- Good knowledge and hands-on experience of Gateway Redundancy protocols like HSRP/VRRP/GLBP.
-Network Monitoring and Management tools
-Understanding of OSI model and TCP/IP protocol.
-Knowledge in Network Management and Monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, NetMon, Manage engine etc.
-Basic knowledge of Wireless Controller, Access Points.
-Hands-on experience/exposure or theoretical knowledge of Cisco Nexus switches and Nexus technologies like vPC.
-Knowledge on Network & Security devices like firewalls.
-Strong understanding of network security concepts, protocols, and best practices.
-Experience with firewall monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Syslog, Splunk, or native firewall logging solutions).
-Familiarity with network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, DNS, etc.) and common attack vectors. Proficiency in network routing and switching, including VPNs, NAT, SSL/TLS, IPSec, and DNS.
