Job Summary:
An Intensivist is a specialized physician who focuses on the care of critically ill patients, typically in an ICU (Intensive Care Unit). This role involves making life-saving decisions, managing complex conditions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide medical care to critically ill patients, including those with respiratory failure, organ dysfunction, or severe trauma.
Monitor and manage patients' conditions in the ICU, using ventilators, dialysis, and other life-saving treatments.
Conduct diagnostic evaluations and interpret critical care tests to inform treatment decisions.
Collaborate with surgical, nursing, and other healthcare teams to ensure the best care for ICU patients.
Administer medications and treatments, adjust as necessary, and manage medical devices for life support.
Educate patients' families about critical conditions, treatment plans, and recovery options.
Lead and supervise junior medical staff and residents in the ICU.
Ensure the proper documentation of all patient information, including treatment protocols, and report outcomes.
Stay current with the latest developments in critical care medicine and provide mentorship to medical staff.
