Job Overview:
The incumbent will be responsible for leading and scaling the sales function for our ghee and milk by-products business. This is a senior leadership role focused on overseeing the B2C sales function, managing a team of sales professionals, and driving business growth through strategic relationship building, contract negotiations, and effective sales execution. The incumbent will work closely with the leadership team to drive the company's strategic vision, build partnerships with large corporate clients, and ensure that sales targets are met consistently.
Primary Responsibilities:
Market Research & Competitive Analysis:
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify new opportunities and challenges.
- Provide actionable insights to senior management to adjust pricing strategies, refine product offerings, and stay ahead of competitors.
Sales Planning & Budgeting:
- Develop annual sales plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with the company's growth objectives.
- Monitor sales budgets and ensure adherence to planned allocations for different sales channels.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to align sales strategies with promotional activities.
Sales Strategy Development & Execution:
General Trade (GT):
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize market penetration through general trade channels, ensuring robust coverage in all target geographies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with distributors, wholesalers, and retailers to drive product availability and visibility.
- Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and performance of distribution partners, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Monitor sales performance in GT channels, setting ambitious targets for regions and ensuring consistent achievement.
- Plan and execute trade schemes and incentives to boost sales and distributor engagement.
Modern Trade (MT) Management:
- Lead efforts to position the company's products as preferred choices in modern trade outlets, securing shelf space and premium visibility.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key accounts, including supermarkets, hypermarkets, and retail chains.
- Negotiate trade terms, promotional activities, and merchandising agreements with modern trade partners to ensure favorable conditions for the company.
- Monitor performance metrics for MT channels, analyzing sales data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to design and implement promotional campaigns tailored to modern trade outlets.
Ecommerce Sales Growth (Additional Focus):
- Support the development and execution of strategies to grow ecommerce sales, leveraging platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and other online retailers.
- Ensure product listings, descriptions, and digital campaigns are optimized to drive visibility and conversions on ecommerce platforms.
- Collaborate with digital marketing teams to run targeted online campaigns, increasing brand awareness and sales.
- Monitor online sales performance and identify opportunities to enhance the company's presence and reach in the e-commerce space.
Channel Management (GT & MT):
- Develop and manage relationships with distributors, retailers, and key accounts in both general trade and modern trade channels.
- Negotiate terms with modern trade partners to ensure favorable conditions for product placement and promotions.
- Ensure effective channel segmentation to maximize market coverage and sales opportunities.
Brand Positioning & Market Penetration:
- Lead efforts to position the company's products as market leaders in their respective categories.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to develop and execute campaigns that enhance brand visibility and consumer engagement.
- Identify new geographies or market segments for expansion and develop entry strategies.
Target Achievement & Review:
- Define sales targets for each channel and region, ensuring clear communication and accountability.
- Conduct regular sales reviews to monitor progress, address challenges, and adjust strategies.
- Analyze sales data to identify trends, insights, and areas for improvement.
Supply Chain Coordination & Stock Establishment:
- Work closely with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure product availability and optimal stock levels across all channels.
- Monitor inventory levels to avoid stockouts or overstocking, ensuring smooth distribution to retailers and trade partners.
- Provide accurate demand forecasts to guide production and inventory planning.
Performance Reporting & Insights:
- Generate detailed sales performance reports for management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
- Utilize sales data and market insights to refine strategies and improve decision-making processes.
- Implement effective CRM systems to track customer interactions and optimize channel engagement.
Negotiation & Contract Management:
- Lead high-level negotiations with potential and existing clients, ensuring mutually beneficial terms.
- Oversee the preparation and finalization of contracts and agreements.
- Ensure that client expectations are met through efficient and effective contract execution.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing sales team, ensuring optimal productivity and alignment with company goals.
- Establish a robust organizational structure for the sales function, including recruiting and training regional and channel sales managers.
- Foster a performance-driven culture, setting clear KPIs and regularly reviewing team performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA or similar advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in B2C sales, specifically in the dairy or related industries. Experience in selling bulk products, particularly ghee or milk by-products, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the dairy industry and market dynamics, with an emphasis on bulk ghee distribution and sales to companies.
- Ability to lead and motivate a high-performing sales team, ensuring alignment with company goals and achieving targets.
- Experience using CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot) to track sales activities, manage client relationships, and maintain accurate records.
- Strong ability to analyze sales data, generate forecasts, and prepare detailed reports.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and presentations.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record in managing clients and achieving targets.
