ENGINE seeks an agile and ambitious reporter to cover global shipping, energy and bunkering markets.
For a journalist this is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team covering the whole world. You will get unique insights into the drastic changes we are witnessing in global energy markets, as the world grapples with various geopolitical challenges, and as the global fleet plans for upcoming decarbonisation targets. You will join a team that is working to make opaque bunker fuel markets more transparent through hard news stories and analysis.
The position will be based in India, either working from our Mumbai office or remotely.
Responsibilities
Report news stories on the shipping industry and global energy markets
Develop good rapport with contacts to gather and report accurate and unique content
Write factually correct and succinct news stories about global bunker fuel markets
Report stories from press releases, webinars and events in the global energy and shipping industries
Write scheduled and off-diary stories for ENGINE s newsfeed and social media pages
Conduct interviews with bunker and shipping industry experts
Meet rolling deadlines and file grammatically sound and clean copy
Structure and maintain spreadsheets to compare bunker fuel prices and other relevant info to write up stories from
Spot trends in bunker fuel pricing, quality, supply and demand
Back up news articles and other content with notes
Dig up and pitch stories, and communicate effectively with the rest of the ENGINE team
Experience
A university graduate with a strong degree or diploma in journalism, energy or shipping
2-5 years of experience from a news media outlet, preferably an internationally focused newsroom or publication
Know how to find interesting story angles and write up articles based on press releases and interviews
Be able to gather information from various sources and combine it into clear and succinct news stories
Key skills
Excellent English proficiency and writing ability
Ability to meet deadlines given during fast-paced news days
