Role & responsibilities

• Promoting the school
• Admission counselors promote their school to prospective students and their parents at recruiting events, such as education fairs. They may also travel to high schools, technical schools, and community colleges to promote the school. 
• Helping students with the application process
• Admission counselors review applications, verify applicant information, and help students with the application process. They may also direct students to resources for information on courses, financial aid, and scholarships. 
• Providing information about the school
• Admission counselors meet with prospective students to answer questions about the school, areas of study, and opportunities. They may also help coordinate on-campus tours, events, and information sessions. 
• Ensuring compliance
• Admission counselors ensure that international applicants complete the required paperwork and meet applicable regulations. 
• Other responsibilities
• Admission counselors may also conduct research, design questionnaires, analyze questionnaire results, lead focus groups, and create a resource-rich environment for students and teachers. 

Admission counselors typically have a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or psychology. Some universities or colleges may also require a master's degree. Other skills that are important for admission counselors include strong communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
