Role & responsibilities
IB PYP Curriculum Implementation:
Þ Planning and delivering inquiry-based, transdisciplinary lessons and units of inquiry that align with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework, incorporating key concepts, transdisciplinary themes, and learner profile attributes.
Þ Facilitating student-centered, inquiry-driven learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration across subject areas.
Transdisciplinary Teaching and Learning:
Þ Integrating multiple subject areas, disciplines, and global contexts into thematic units of inquiry to foster holistic understanding, interdisciplinary connections, and real-world relevance in students' learning experiences.
Þ Promoting the development of transdisciplinary skills, such as communication, research, self-management, social skills, and thinking skills, through authentic, inquiry-based learning tasks and activities.
Student Assessment and Inquiry-Based Assessment:
Þ Assessing students' conceptual understanding, skills development, and attitudes through formative and summative assessments that reflect the principles of inquiry-based assessment and criterion-referenced evaluation.
Þ Providing timely, constructive feedback to students on their progress, achievements, and areas for growth, and involving students in self-assessment and reflection on their learning journey.
Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) Skills Development:
Þ Fostering the development of IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills, such as research, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and self-regulation, through explicit instruction, modeling, and scaffolding.
Þ Providing opportunities for students to apply ATL skills across different contexts and disciplines, and supporting students in becoming self-directed, lifelong learners.
International Mindedness and Global Citizenship:
Þ Promoting international mindedness, cultural awareness, and global perspectives among students by exploring local and global issues, perspectives, and identities through inquiry, dialogue, and action.
Þ Encouraging students to develop empathy, respect, and appreciation for diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, and to take action as responsible global citizens to make positive contributions to their communities and the world.
Collaborative Planning and Professional Learning Community (PLC) Participation:
Þ Collaborating with colleagues, grade-level teams, and interdisciplinary groups to plan and develop IB PYP curriculum units, assessments, and learning experiences that are coherent, cohesive, and vertically aligned.
Þ Participating in professional learning communities (PLCs), curriculum review meetings, and IB workshops or conferences to enhance pedagogical knowledge, share best practices, and engage in collaborative inquiry and reflection.
Miscellaneous Tasks:
Student Support and Well-Being:
Þ Providing academic, social, and emotional support to students through individualized instruction, differentiated interventions, and pastoral care initiatives, and collaborating with counselors, learning support specialists, and administrators as needed.
Parent Communication and Engagement:
Þ Establishing open, transparent communication channels with parents or guardians to share information about students' learning progress, inquiries, and achievements, and to solicit parental involvement and support in their child's education.
School Community Engagement and Service Learning:
Þ Engaging students in service-learning projects, action initiatives, and community partnerships that connect classroom learning with real-world issues, needs, and opportunities for meaningful, purposeful action and service.
Preferred candidate profile
IB PYP Training and Certification: Completion of International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) training, workshops, or certification courses is essential for teachers to effectively implement the IB PYP curriculum.
