BanyanNation - Senior Scientist - Research & Devlelopment (5-8 yrs)

Position Overview:

We are seeking an accomplished and highly skilled Polymer Science graduate/postgraduate to join our R&D team. This role demands deep expertise in polymer chemistry, materials characterization, and polymer processing. The successful candidate will drive innovation, developing novel polymer materials for a wide range of applications while contributing to Banyan's leadership in sustainable plastic solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Innovation and Capability Development:

- Lead R&D initiatives to design, synthesize, and optimize polymer materials, focusing on achieving targeted properties for specific applications.

- Perform advanced analysis of experimental data, interpreting results to foster the development of new polymer grades and solutions.

- Spearhead the development of standard test methods, particularly for FTIR, DSC, TGA, GC-MS, and other relevant techniques.

- Continuously monitor advancements in polymer science to facilitate knowledge-sharing with internal teams and ensure Banyan stays at the forefront of industry innovation.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

- Partner with cross-functional teams, including production, sales, business development and external parties, to understand end-user application requirements and deliver customized polymer solutions

Data and Lab Management:

- Design, execute, and oversee experiments to validate the performance of polymer materials across diverse environments and applications.

- Ensure meticulous documentation of experimental protocols, results, and observations, maintaining an organized recipe database and mapping testing data across internal, converter, and client trials.

- Develop and manage a repository of defect analysis and corrective actions to streamline production and improve outcomes.

- Oversee regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, and ensure that all R&D lab equipment operates under a strict AMC.

Key Competencies and Knowledge:

- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in polymer characterization techniques such as FTIR, NMR, DSC, TGA, SEM, and rheology. A solid understanding of mechanical testing, thermal analysis, and spectroscopy is essential

- Polymer Chemistry: In-depth knowledge of polymer chemistry, including polymerization techniques, structure-property relationships, and processing methods.

- Industry Insights: Familiarity with the recycling and virgin plastics industries, with a focus on polymer synthesis and formulation

- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to design, execute, and analyse experimental data to derive actionable insights.

- Collaboration and Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working closely with multidisciplinary teams and presenting research findings effectively.

- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and refine polymer processes, addressing both technical and operational challenges.

Qualifications:

- PhD/Post Graduation in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field is strongly preferred.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree from IIT, CIPET or equivalent institutes may be considered for candidates with relevant work experience.

- 5-8 years of proven experience as a polymer scientist in a relevant industry.
