Our Commercial IT Data Analytics AI (DAAI) team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for the Looking Glass project. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in Databricks, PySpark, and the AWS suite of applications. This role involves building fully automated reusable data pipelines, maintaining complex Data Orchestration systems, and collaborating with colleagues across IT and Business Data teams to provide tailored solutions.

Accountabilities

- Maintain deep working knowledge of data platforms/data products and infrastructure aligned with commercial IT.
- Build, test, deploy, and maintain data pipelines.
- Provide technical expertise to peers and 3rd party development suppliers to ensure consistency with AZ IT and Commercial IT standards.
- Work with platform delivery resources to validate business and functional requirements.
- Evaluate new technologies/application features and recommend technology and business strategic roadmaps.
- Demonstrate expert understanding of AstraZeneca s data product application development processes.
- Mentor junior staff members through technical training sessions and project reviews.
- Serve as an internal consultant for IT and business partners across regions and business areas (Commercial, Medical).
- Partner with Platform Success Leads on continuous improvement opportunities within platform and product level backlogs.
- Identify new hardware/software technologies to fit specialized business needs.
- Identify issues with current processes and propose changes to enhance IT effectiveness.

Essential Skills/Experience

- Bachelor s degree or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Prior experience in an Information Services/Information Technology environment with good business acumen
- Proven experience of managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in the position offered, as a Data Analyst or related
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with ETL experience building complex data models/pipelines/products
- Strong data engineering skills with AWS cloud platform
- Experienced in Agile Development techniques and Methodologies
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience working with Databricks, Workflows, and Apache Airflow
- Experienced with building AWS or Azure cloud-based data pipeline
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with Python, Spark
- Expertise in Continuous Integration and Deployment methods delivered as part of an agile team
- Evidence of designing, shaping, and implementing innovative solutions and driving any changes
- Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language
- A broad understanding of cloud architecture
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within both Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
- Proven experience of managing and coaching/mentoring junior engineers
- Proven experience of developing and managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
- Strong written and verbal communications skills

- Experience working within a quality and compliance environment and application of policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Customer Experience
- Prior significant experience working in Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry IT environment
- Experience working with IQVIA Claims, National and subnational sales data
