Diamond Purchase Specialist/Buyer

Job Description:

A Diamond Purchase Specialist is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing high-quality diamonds for a jewelry company or other relevant businesses. This role requires a keen eye for detail, in-depth knowledge of diamond grading and quality factors, and strong negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing Diamonds:

Develop and maintain relationships with reputable diamond suppliers, both domestic and international.

Research and identify potential diamond sources, including auctions, wholesalers, and individual dealers.

Attend industry trade shows and events to network and source diamonds.

Diamond Evaluation:

Assess the quality of diamonds based on the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight).

Utilize diamond grading reports from reputable laboratories (e.g., GIA, IGI) to verify quality and value.

Inspect diamonds for any flaws or imperfections.

Negotiation and Purchasing:

Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to secure the best deals.

Conduct due diligence on suppliers and ensure ethical and conflict-free sourcing practices.

Place orders and manage the procurement process.

Inventory Management:

Maintain accurate records of diamond purchases and inventory.

Track market trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.

Ensure the security and proper storage of diamonds.

Financial Analysis:

Analyze diamond costs and pricing strategies to maximize profitability.

Prepare reports on diamond purchases and market trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of diamonds: Understanding of the 4Cs, diamond grading systems, and market trends.

Excellent negotiation and communication skills: Ability to build relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to evaluate diamonds, analyze data, and make informed decisions.

Attention to detail: Meticulousness in inspecting and evaluating diamonds.

Financial acumen: Understanding of financial statements and market analysis.

Experience in the jewelry industry (preferred): Prior experience in diamond sourcing or a related field.

Relevant certifications (optional): GIA Graduate Gemologist or equivalent.
