Aritha - Engineering Manager - Backend Technologies (8-10 yrs)

Position Summary :

We're seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager with strong backend expertise to lead a cross-functional team of 5-8 engineers. The ideal candidate will bring deep system architecture knowledge and technical leadership skills, with a particular focus on backend excellence while managing full-stack initiatives.

Technical Skills required :

- Good experience in Backend technologies like Java Springboot, Microservices and Nodejs Development

- Experience in Frontend like React JS or Angular JS

- Very good exposure in Cloud infrastructure

- Expertise in Software Design & Architecture

- Experience in Distributed systems

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership :

- Drive backend architecture and system design decisions

- Lead implementation of critical backend services and APIs

- Ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend systems

- Optimize system performance and scalability

- Champion code quality and technical best practices

- Actively contribute to coding and code reviews

Team Management :

- Lead and mentor a team of 5 frontend and backend engineers

- Drive sprint planning and execution

- Foster collaboration between frontend and backend developers

- Balance technical debt with feature development

- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions

Responsibilities include :

1. Team Leadership and Management :

- Providing guidance, mentorship, and support for engineers in the team.

- Ensuring a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

- Setting clear expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback for career growth.

- Address conflicts within the team and resolve issues that might affect team dynamics.

2. Project Planning and Execution :

- Work with project managers and other stakeholders to plan and prioritize projects, ensuring alignment with business goals.

- Make sure projects are completed on schedule and within scope.

- Identify potential risks in projects and develop strategies to mitigate them.

- Coordinate with cross-functional teams : Collaborate with other departments like product management, design, and operations to ensure project success.

3. Technical Leadership :

- Offer solutions to complex technical problems and help engineers resolve issues.

- Ensure that the team follows best practices, coding standards, and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum).

- Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in engineering and introduce them when beneficial.

- Review the team's code to maintain quality and ensure adherence to best practices.

4. Communication and Stakeholder Management :

- Communicate effectively between the engineering team and stakeholders, such as product management, senior leadership, and clients.

- Regularly update stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and accomplishments.

- Set realistic expectations for timelines, resources, and deliverables.

5. Process Improvement :

- Introduce and enforce engineering best practices, tools, and processes to increase productivity and quality.

- Identify areas for improvement within the team and processes, and implement initiatives to drive those improvements.

- Streamline development processes to maximize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks.

6. Innovation and Strategic Planning :

- Encourage and foster innovation within the team to solve complex problems and meet business goals.

- Contribute to long-term strategy : Work with leadership to shape the long-term technical strategy and vision for the organization.

Required Qualifications :

- Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

- 8-10 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams

- Strong backend expertise (Node.js, TypeScript, Microservices)

- Experience with modern frontend technologies (React)

- Deep knowledge of database design and optimization

- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure)

- Proven track record building complex distributed systems

- Strong system design and architecture skills

Preferred Experience :

- Prior startup experience with scaling engineering systems

- Knowledge of 3D/CAD systems and spatial data

- Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms

- Background in real-time data processing
