Supporting each other through the ups and downs of work life

Day to Day Office

I’m 32M, working at [HCLTech](hcl-technologies) 60K in hand, with personal and home loans. My parents are forcing me into marriage due to societal pressure.

The girl isn’t working, unsure if she will, and her family demands a lavish wedding we can’t afford....we’re even taking loans for it. I begged to postpone, but no one listens.

I asked her to cancel she refuses. She ignores my calls but sweet talks my family, even lying that we’re getting along. We’re complete opposites in lifestyle, values, and personality.

I’ve tried everything even acting like a red flag but she won’t back out. Am I stuck? What should I do?

The company is a growing company with umlimited scope of growth but the mindset with which it is being managed is not good. There is a micro management which happens here which is not very good to be honest. It never feels good to be in such an environment.

The company barely has any projects that are upto the level of intellect one expects from a lawyer. There were very few decent projects and I think, most of them have now lost their clients because of automation or AI integration or because other competing firms have vouched for better quality and taken a swing at this firm by snatching clients left and right. Most of the people left in the firm have been there for around 10-15 years and have no idea how it works in the outside world. They are massively cocooned and will mostly be found micro managing associates or bombarding them with menial work. The work is so monotonous that you're bound to make errors and then you will have to hear every other manager berate your performance and stress the importance of "quality". If you find people who can support you within the organization, that is great (which is what I did) but they are farther and few in between and the work isn't going to do you any favours on your resume. The pay is very less and there is an overall culture of exploitation. If you have to rise in this environment, you'll have to do more work than you are allocated to do and people will begin expecting that of you and offer you responsibilities that do not come with a promotion or an increment in your salary. I do not recommend working here but if you must because you're starving for choices, do not waste a minute doing anything that is not in your JD and do not stop looking for jobs.

I had the opportunity to network well in my time at this organization. Since, it is a smaller firm, I had the exposure to interact with different kinds of people at different seniority levels. I learnt a lot in my time here, because I could mobilize my seniors' attention and get them to train me on things I was struggling with. I must also applaud the training structure. However, the cons outweigh the pros majorly.
