EDCONS is name of another horrible company of Kolkata. Although the company has Internal Complaint Committee (ICC), celebrates International Womens' Day, provides car facility to the female staffs from CIT Point & Bypass Dhaba but the female staffs are not safe in this company. On October-November, 2023 so many female staffs left this company in a protest of a molestation incident and fearing for their self respect. Also knowing the incident, the ICC remained silent and the management forced the victim to resign. The human resource department is so terrific. The HRs are ignorant of the industry. They appoint the merchandisers by measuring the beauty, appeal, show-off, over smartness and body flexibility. It is a good company for freshers only. A fresher or junior can learn very well ( at the price of mental peace but I'll let it slide because of experience and knowledge) If you're looking for senior position, they might have you on board and fire you at any point of time.

Dislikes

Biased towards selective employees. Poor appraisal. They keep saying to take legal step if an employee serves less than 2 months notice period but on the other hand they lay off employees as their will without any notice period. They keep misbehaving unless you quit. They talk rubbish behind your back and in the industry when you quit.

Good for learning. Benefits are too good in comparison to other export houses. They even provide a pick & drop facility for female employees.

Dislikes

Very poor work life balance. Management is horrible. Very partial & biased hierarchy. Job security is zero.

Its a wonderful place to work at if you don't seek any growth or learning opportunity. Appraisals are fair from the upper management given your immediate boss is unbiased. Also, new ideas are appreciated by the upper management if you manage to make your voices heard (which is the most difficult thing in this company given the strict hierarchy).

Dislikes

Compensation is decent, but growth is slow. In some departments, employees good at their job are kept at the same position for years instead of promoting them. An employee at a senior position has no work-life balance as getting calls from the management after work, sometimes late at night, is a common practice. There is no one to hear complaints against other employees (specially if they are your bosses) if you are being treated in an unfair or hostile manner. The work environment is quite abusive and hostile in some departments. The HR department is only for hiring and firing purpose and for organizing parties once a year. My work was hectic but fun as I loved interacting with my buyers and coordinate order execution. However, it was a constant battle between doing the right thing while meeting profit goals; or work unethically to exceed those goals as they preferred later.
