Should I Ask About Salary Before Flying Out?

Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a dilemma. A company wants to fly me out in March for an in-person interview this would be my third round with them. It sounds like a great opportunity, but it’s a 12-hour flight, and I’d need to take time off work. Plus, I have a family to think about, so I really don’t want to waste time if the salary isn’t in the right range. I actually asked about compensation before the first interview, but they just told me, “The person we hire will be taken care of.” Not exactly the clarity I was hoping for. Would it be rude to bring it up again before committing to the trip? And how should I phrase it? Would love to hear your thoughts!

It’s absolutely fair to ask about salary before making such a big commitment. You could politely mention that you’d like to ensure the role aligns with your expectations before moving forward.

Just be honest: ‘I’d love to continue, but this is a huge time commitment can we revisit the salary discussion before I fly out?’ They’ll get it.

Just say something like, ‘I’m excited about the opportunity, but before I travel, could we discuss the salary range to ensure alignment?’ It’s practical, not rude.

You’re investing significant time and energy; it’s reasonable to clarify the salary. Be upfront but respectful

Definitely ask again! You have a life to plan, and they should respect that. Just keep it polite but firm.

A 12-hour flight just to find out the salary doesn’t match? Nope, not worth it. Definitely ask before you end up stuck on a plane thinking about it!

The person we hire will be taken care of’ is as vague as it gets. Ask them again or you might end up being ‘taken care of’ with snacks and compliments instead of cash.
