Resigned Last Week… Now They’re Treating Me Like a Traitor?
Is this normal?! Has anyone else gone through this?
I resigned two Thursdays ago after two years in a job that felt stagnant. My manager barely spoke to me, and I was going nowhere. I landed a way better role at a much better company.
When I resigned, instead of support, I got guilt-tripped and gaslighted
“You’ll never find a better environment.”
“You’re making a huge mistake.”
“You’re ruining a great opportunity.”
(Oh, NOW you care? I never even got a performance review! 🙃)
Since then? Awkward silence. Petty behavior. Cold shoulders. Even my VP, who I used to talk to daily, hasn’t looked me in the eye.
Today was my goodbye lunch, and two coworkers straight-up LIED to avoid it. My manager publicly yelled at people for wishing me well. Another colleague literally confronted me raising her voice asking why I’d leave, insisting “It’s impossible to find a better workplace.”
Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this weird resentment after resigning?

Unfortunately, this kind of reaction is more common than it should be. Many companies don’t handle resignations well and take it personally instead of professionally. Stay focused on your new opportunity it sounds like you made the right choice!

It's disappointing but not uncommon. Some managers react emotionally to resignations instead of treating them as a normal career step. Don’t let it affect your confidence your growth is what matters.

Workplace breakups are messier than actual breakups sometimes. Block them emotionally and move on!
