About the job:
Summary:
The Associate Director, Communications and Outreach will play a crucial role in leading communications initiatives, managing strategic partnerships, and outreach for our work in the organization ("The Institute").
This position will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies while fostering meaningful partnerships to advance the organization's mission.
This position reports to the Head of the Institute.

Wadhwani AI is a nonprofit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical issues in public health, agriculture, education, and urban development in underserved communities in the global south.
We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems, and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues with the aim of making a substantial positive impact.
We have over 30+ AI projects supported by leading philanthropies such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and Google.org.

Roles And Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications Management:
- Lead the development and execution of communications and outreach strategy, which maintains and enhances our position as a leader in the space.
- Create critical linkages to institute outcomes.
- Manage internal team and external freelancers to perform the work.
- Create best-in-class presentations and reports for existing and potential donors to drive a narrative that enhances the repute of the institute.
- Lead the development of website content, social media presence, and institutional collateral.
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, reports and website
- Drive media engagement to maintain our organization as a thought leader in the AI for social impact space, while building sustainable relationships with key media partners.
Outreach and Public Relations:
- Develop and implement outreach initiatives to enhance visibility among key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and industry leaders.
- Lead the development of PR strategies, media campaigns, and thought leadership initiatives to engage a broader audience.
- Work closely with policy experts and stakeholders to position AI solutions within broader development agendas.
Event Management and External Relations:
- Plan and execute organizational events that showcase the organization's work and impact.
- Represent the organization at external events and conferences.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
- Coordinate speaking opportunities and thought leadership platforms.
- Manage vendor relationships for event production and communications needs.
Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and drive results with a proactive approach.
- Strong experience in communications, media engagement, PR, and outreach strategy.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging government agencies, media, and industry leaders.
- Proven experience leading teams and collaborating across functions.
Prerequisites include:
- At least 8-15 years of relevant work experience in leadership roles with a minimum of 4 years in a managerial position.
- Experience in corporate communications, PR, strategy, or marketing.
