Tool Room Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• To fulfil day to day tooling requirements of press shop production.
• Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practices tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
• Contribute to new business RFQ projects and review and communicate the impact on Tool Room activities
• Provide specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of Tool design, manufacturing and estimating.
• Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems
• Supervise/Manage the running and plan activities of the tool room facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Supports Production and NPD to manage and commitment of on time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) as well as reduction in down time because of Tooling unavailability.
• To keep track record of every tool in logbook / drives with breakdown service as well as preventive maintenance service history.
• Implement storage of tools to facilitate highest standards within the department for good housekeeping, health, safety and environment.
• Manufacture new tools from engineering drawings to a high level of workmanship and in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
• CAD/CAM and CNC programming to do whenever required.
• Prepare the annual Tool Room budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects.
• Maintaining Hygiene standards in Tool Room area.
• EHS adherence during every process of Tool receiving or handing over to production.
• Duty/Shift timings adherence and discipline required in Leave consumption.

Preferred candidate profile

• Knowledge required in Carbon Steel Metal cutting, parting, blanking, flaring, hemming, deep draw, bending on Power Press tooling, Progressive tools, compound tools.
• Knowledge of Tooling material and its machining and stress relieving, hardening processes. Knowledge of CAM type tooling. Knowledge of measuring instruments handling and operating. Basic knowledge of VMC, HMC, VTLs, Surface Grinding, Turning machines operations.
