Position Overview
The Debt Syndication role at Stride Ventures, responsible for the syndication process of debt offerings. This individual will develop and manage relationships with lenders, investors, and financial institutions while ensuring successful syndication of loans to support portfolio companies. The ideal candidate will combine deep financial expertise, strong industry connections, and a strategic mindset to drive capital efficiency and enhance the fund's ability to scale its operations.
Key Functions:
1. Origination:
- Identify potential borrowers (startups, growth-stage companies) aligned with the VD firm's risk appetite and sector focus.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to scout opportunities within the ecosystem.
2. Structuring and Negotiation:
- Structure flexible loan terms (e.g., interest rates, covenants, payment schedules) suitable for high-growth businesses.
- Negotiate terms with borrowers and co-lenders while managing risk-sharing agreements.
3. Syndication Execution:
- Bring together a syndicate of lenders, including NBFCs, institutional investors, and family offices.
- Manage the allocation of the syndicated loan, ensuring all participants' risk and return requirements are met.
4. Financial Modelling:
- Conduct due diligence, including financial modelling, cash flow projections, and assessment of collateral (if any).
- Mitigate risks through covenants, insurance, or subordination mechanisms.
5. Relationship Management:
- Maintain relationships with co-lenders, borrowers, and advisors to ensure smooth execution and management of syndicated deals.
- Regularly monitor the performance of syndicated loans and address any compliance issues.
Key Qualifications
- Experience: 8 to 12+ years in debt syndication, structured finance, or investment banking, with significant exposure to venture debt or corporate lending.
- Education: Advanced degree in finance, business administration, or a related field; CFA or equivalent certifications preferred.
Skills:
- Exposure to early-stage or growth-stage ecosystems, including VC and PE fund interactions.
- Networking/Relationship equity with startup ecosystem: VCs, Investors, start ups
- Expertise in structuring customized debt instruments (convertible debt, revenue-based financing, etc.).
- Strong understanding of the startup ecosystem, sector trends, and venture capital dynamics.
- Familiarity with alternative funding instruments and venture debt nuances.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and cross-border syndication for international debt deals preferable but not essential
