Functional Safety Engineer

Job Summary: The Functional Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all safety-related aspects of our products and processes comply with relevant standards and regulations. This role involves working closely with various departments to integrate functional safety into the design, development, and implementation of our products. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage functional safety activities in accordance with IEC 61511 standards for the process industry sector. 
• Conduct risk assessments, including HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis). 
• Develop and maintain Functional Safety Documentation in the lifecycle 
• HAZOP / LOPA Reports 
• Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS) and safety plans 
• SIL Verification Report 
• Proof test procedures 
• Must have: Define, design and verify Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF). 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety requirements are integrated into product designs. 
• Perform safety lifecycle activities, including safety assessments, verifications, and validations. 
• Provide training and support to project teams on functional safety principles and practices. 
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations, including ISO 22734 and IEC 61511. 
• Participate in safety audits and reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement. 
• Plan and report status of work activities  

Qualifications and Skills:

• At minimum, Bachelors degree in engineering – BE Instrumentation is preferred. 
• Must have: Certification in IEC 61511 functional safety (By TUV Rheinland, North, Sud or Exida). 
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in functional safety engineering in the process industry sector or minimum 7 years of experience as FuSa engineer  
• In-depth knowledge of IEC 61511 and other relevant safety standards. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 
• Good knowledge of ExSilentia for SIL verification calculations 
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word 
• Familiarity with PHA software (e.g. PHA pro, Open PHA, PHA works, ...) 
• Experience with other Functional Safety lifecycle management tools and software. 
• Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) principles. 
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
• Experience with ISO 22734, ISO 12100,  
• Experience with IEC 62061 
• Experience with hydrogen and oxygen safety principles 
• Experience in Oil & Gas industry 
• Involved in FEED for refinery project along with creation of Cause & Effect with view developed on “What can go wrong” is preferred. 
• Exposure to hardware - Hardware oriented knowledge that include instruments / electrical
