Senior Well Engineer

Job Description:

The Senior Well Engineer is responsible for the technical planning and execution of well operations, including well interventions, drilling, completion, and workover activities. The role ensures the operation is carried out according to the specified design while adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Well Design & Planning:
• Develop well programs and procedures for drilling, completion, and workover operations adhering to the safety standards of the oil and gas industry.
• Perform well planning based on geological, reservoir, and operational data.
• Selection and design appropriate workover and completion equipment.
• Ensure well design is safe, cost-effective, and optimally aligned with production goals.
2. Operations & Execution:
• Oversee and supervise the day-to-day intervention operations, ensuring proper execution of well plans.
• Monitor real-time data to ensure the well is drilled safely and efficiently.
• Coordinate and collaborate with the Workover team, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
3. Risk Management & Safety:
• Identify and mitigate well interventions risks, including formation pressure, blowout prevention, and wellbore instability.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices throughout well operations.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
4. Well Integrity & Performance:
• Monitor well integrity, including casing, cementing, and pressure management.
• Ensure proper wellbore conditions and evaluate well performance for optimization.
• Analyse data and resolve issues related to well production, performance, or well service complications.
5. Cost Management:
• Assist in budget creation and manage costs related to workover operations.
• Optimize workover and completion processes to reduce cost while maintaining safety and operational efficiency.
6. Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations and environmental standards.
• Maintain accurate records for well operations and provide detailed reports to senior management and regulatory authorities.
7. Post-Operation Review:
• Perform post-well analysis and lessons learned, identifying areas of improvement for future operations.
• Provide technical input for the next wells design based on performance data and analysis.
8. Collaboration & Teamwork:
• Work closely with other departments (geology, reservoir engineering, etc.) to ensure alignment in objectives and well planning.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certifications or a master's degree can be advantageous.
• Experience: 10-12 years of experience in Well completion/ Workover/ Drilling engineering, including field operations, well planning, and execution.
• Technical Skills:
• Familiarity with drilling software (e.g., WellPlan, Landmark, etc.).
• Knowledge of reservoir engineering, wellbore hydraulics, casing design, and completion techniques.
• Proficient in well control, mud programs, and risk management.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as IWCF (International Well Control Forum) or equivalent.

Working Conditions:

• The Well Engineer typically works both in office settings for planning and design as well as in the field, managing well operations.
• Travel to workover/Drilling sites will be required.
