Senior Manager - Hot Strip Mill (HSM)

Role & responsibilities:

The Senior Manager - Hot Strip Mill will lead and manage the operations of the hot strip mill, ensuring the production of high-quality hot-rolled steel products. This role involves overseeing all aspects of production, maintenance, safety, and quality control. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for improving the efficiency and performance of the mill while ensuring compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operational Leadership:
  
• Oversee the daily operations of the hot strip mill, ensuring smooth and efficient production processes.
• Ensure the implementation of optimal production schedules to meet customer demands.
• Develop strategies to improve mill throughput, reduce downtime, and minimize defects.
• Team Management:
  
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, supervisors, and operators.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork within the hot strip mill.
• Ensure effective training and development programs for staff, particularly focusing on safety and technical skills.
• Quality and Safety:
  
• Ensure adherence to all safety and environmental regulations.
• Monitor product quality and collaborate with quality control teams to resolve any issues related to product standards.
• Implement corrective actions in the event of product non-conformance and continuously improve processes to ensure high-quality outputs.
• Technical and Process Improvement:
  
• Drive continuous process optimization initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs.
• Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure the proper functioning of all equipment and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Lead and participate in capital improvement projects, ensuring all new initiatives align with operational goals.
• Budget and Resource Management:
  
• Develop and manage budgets for the hot strip mill operations.
• Control operational costs and implement measures for cost reduction without compromising quality.
• Ensure resource availability, including manpower, equipment, and raw materials, for efficient production.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
• Coordinate with other departments such as production planning, maintenance, quality control, and logistics to ensure the efficient operation of the mill.
• Communicate effectively with senior leadership on operational performance, challenges, and areas for improvement.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualifications:

• Education:
  
• Diploma or Bachelor's or Masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
  
• Minimum of 12-20 years of experience in the steel manufacturing industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role within the hot strip mill.
• Strong understanding of hot strip mill operations, including Hot rolling, and coiling processes.
• Skills:
  
• Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems and safety standards in manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of staff and management.
