SAP Advanced Business Application Programming Technical Consultant (5-9 yrs)

An SAP ABAP Technical Consultant is an IT professional specialized in working with SAP's Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) language to design, develop, and maintain custom solutions within the SAP system.

ABAP is SAP's programming language used for developing applications on the SAP platform.

These consultants play a critical role in enhancing the functionality of SAP ERP systems according to a company's specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

Customization and Development :

- Develop custom reports, forms, and enhancements in ABAP to meet business requirements.

- Design and implement custom interfaces between SAP and external systems.

- Work with SAP standard modules and adapt them through user exits, BADI (Business Add-Ins), and enhancement points.

Technical Design and Documentation :

- Analyze functional specifications and convert them into technical designs.

- Document the ABAP code, technical specifications, and other project-related documentation.

Performance Optimization :

- Optimize ABAP programs for efficiency, performance, and scalability, especially for large data volumes.

- Work with database optimization techniques and reduce processing time.

Integration and Interface Development :

- Develop integrations between SAP and other third-party applications using various protocols (IDoc, RFC, BAPI, web services).

- Ensure smooth data exchange and functional alignment between SAP and external systems.

Testing and Troubleshooting :

- Conduct unit testing and system integration testing to ensure the developed solutions function properly.

- Troubleshoot errors in ABAP programs and debug them effectively.

Required Skills and Tools :

- Strong understanding of ABAP syntax and constructs.

- Familiarity with various SAP modules like MM (Materials Management), SD (Sales and Distribution), FICO (Finance and Controlling), etc.

- Understanding of the platform on which SAP applications are built.

- Experience with SAP HANA, Smart Forms, SAP Fiori, and SAP Web Dynpro for developing web-based applications.

- Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP) : Familiarity with object-oriented principles in ABAP for creating reusable and scalable code.

- IDOC, RFC, BAPI : Experience in working with different SAP communication technologies.

Common Certifications :

- SAP Certified Development Associate ABAP with SAP NetWeaver.

- SAP Certified Development Specialist ABAP for SAP HANA.
