They also need to ensure that the food is properly seasoned and cooked to the right temperature. Cooks may be involved in creating menus and selecting ingredients for dishes. They need to be knowledgeable about different ingredients and their nutritional value, and have an understanding of dietary restrictions or preferences. Cooks may be responsible for managing inventory and ordering supplies, such as food, cooking utensils, and cleaning supplies.
