Job Description

The Senior Systems Administrator/Engineer) plays a crucial role in the design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software, focusing on our on-premises data center operations. This key position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our on-premises systems while also possessing the skills and foresight needed for future migrations to cloud environments, especially AWS.

This position is designed for a system engineer who is passionate about maintaining a robust on-premises infrastructure, focusing on continuous improvement and operational excellence, and the adaptability and foresight to transition systems to the cloud.

Essential Job Functions:

• Leverage extensive system engineering knowledge across a variety of technologies, including Windows Server, VMware, AWS, Azure, O365 applications, and server networking.
• Lead the design, installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of our on-premises data center technologies, including server hardware, virtualization environments (VMware), storage solutions, networking, on-premises applications as well as cloud applications such as O365, SharePoint, etc., ensure high availability and performance.
• Manage and optimize Azure AD and on-prem Active Directory, implementing secure access controls, Single Sign-On (SSO), Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to protect our systems and data.
• Manage and administer Azure cloud environment, including configuration, governance, and security.
• Document all operational processes, hardware configurations, and system workflows within the on-premises environment. Ensure a thorough understanding of the current state to facilitate process improvements.
• Implement and manage a robust monitoring and alerting framework using tools like Datadog or New Relic to facilitate early issue detection, rapid incident response, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Lead initiatives aimed at automating repetitive tasks, reducing operational toil, and streamlining incident management processes to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
• Engage in direct and indirect interactions with key stakeholders, third-party vendors, and internal customers to manage projects, resolve issues, and support broader technology team goals.
• Analyze complex system issues and leverage extensive technical knowledge to devise innovative solutions that enhance our infrastructure's resilience and performance.
• Engage in strategic planning and execution of on-premises to AWS cloud migrations, applying knowledge of cloud services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices with Terraform.

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

• At least 8 years, strongly emphasizing managing and optimizing on-premise data center operations.
• Strong Microsoft Windows Server 2019+ experience required; Linux experience a huge plus.
• Preferred certifications in key technologies (e.g., MCSE, Server+, CCNA, Linux, VMware). Azure and AWS Certifications are beneficial for cloud migration aspects.
• Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages to automate processes and improve system configurations.
• In-depth understanding of Azure AD, Windows Active Directory, DNS, GPO, PowerShell, ADFS, IIS, Remote Desktop Services, and PKI within an on-premises context.
• Proven track record in incident management, process improvement, and automation within on-prem data center contexts.
• Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and cloud migration projects is preferred. 
• Experience in AWS cloud technologies, services, and best practices is also preferred.
• Experience in setting up and managing advanced monitoring and alerting systems.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strong communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with various teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks while being available for on-call duties to ensure round-the-clock system availability and support.
