Software Engineer Colour Systems

Role Purpose

This role will be responsible for the ongoing design, development and implementation of the Global Colour Systems, which are used by the Global Dyehouses throughout Coats. The focus of this position will be on the development of the new ColourStitch application (re-platform), the development of new functionality to add onto this platform, as well as the use of emerging and AI technologies to enhance the application for the future. To ensure long term sustainability of Coats Colour Systems and delivery of high levels of productivity and product quality across Coats dyehouse operations globally, through appropriate systems design, development, implementation, test, support and user training

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities

• Ensuring that the Global Colour System applications are re-architected, designed, developed and implemented using up to date Software Engineering practices
• Training of the Dyehouse Staff in the use of the Global Colour Systems applications
• Implementation and roll out of the new functionality with no impact to the production environment
• Handover of the new application(s) and / or functionality to the Global Colour Systems Support Team
• Ongoing improvements, new functionality required by the Global Dyehouses, to ensure that the Global Colour Systems are leading edge, and enable Coats to maintain its market leading position in Colour
• Perform all required tasks to maintain and support database systems: upload and migration of data.
• Document the details of all changes in the applications being updated.
• Review available updates and upgrades in application layer, plan and implement when required.
• Working with a small, empowered cross-functional team to deliver business value.
• Operational support, maintain service availability, post-mortem events, maintain play books.
• Automate monitoring (generate alerts / create tickets), interpreting of events and recovery.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Degree in computer science, IT or equivalent.
• 5+ years in a software engineering role
• Colour Physics training and understanding
• Moderate development experience in Java, .Net and mobile application platform.
• Moderate development and support experience in SharePoint and MS Power Platform.
• Exposure to common database technologies.
• Desire to work closely with the business, learn new things and deliver.
• Ability to take ownership of a project or issue, analyse it and solve problems not faced before.
• Moderate knowledge on network architectures required for support and troubleshooting.

Desirable

• Good to have experience of running and operating applications in cloud environment.
• Exposure to production observation capabilities e.g., Logging, Metrics etc.,
• Previous e-commerce experience would also be beneficial. Website and user experience awareness would be an added advantage.
