Accounts Manager responsibilities

  • Review company finances to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Evaluate potential risks that might hinder organizational objectives.
  • Design detailed audits based on risk assessments.
  • Review and test processes, such as checking the accuracy of financial entries or validating security protocols, to confirm their effectiveness.
  • Make sure internal processes adhere to external regulations and company policies.
  • Document findings and recommend improvements post-audit.
  • Share findings and best practices with relevant departments.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations and emerging risks.
  • Suggest measures to prevent errors, fraud, or regulation breaches.

Requirements/Qualifications and training required

  • A bachelors or masters degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • [3+] years' experience in internal auditing, specifically in areas like compliance, operational, or financial auditing

Job Overview:

The Accounts Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department. This role involves maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience with various accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management:
    • Maintain and update general ledger and all related accounts with timely, accurate, and complete entries.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting to ensure optimal use of company resources.
    • Conduct financial analysis and report findings to senior management.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Oversee accounts payable/receivable, including processing invoices, reconciling vendor statements, and ensuring timely payments.
    • Review and approve credit terms for customers and monitor outstanding balances.
    • Ensure the prompt collection of receivables and manage credit control processes.
  • Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and financial reporting standards.
    • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for audits.
    • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Team Management:
    • Supervise, train, and mentor junior accounting staff to maintain a high standard of performance.
    • Assist in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures.
    • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to improve processes and communication within the finance department.
  • System and Process Improvement:
    • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to existing accounting software and processes.
    • Implement best practices for financial management and control.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Masters or CPA is preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a similar industry or sector.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Proven track record of process improvement and implementation.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, with occasional overtime as needed.
  • Office-based with minimal travel required.
