Job Description

A Mechanical Staff Engineer is responsible for design and develop advanced and future products for PowerDrive Systems organization. You will interface with Sales, Product Strategy, Business Development, and Application Engineering to determine product needs and customer desires. Collaborating with the design department, potential suppliers, and internal customers, you will create innovative and cost-effective solutions to bring products to realization. Once the product concept is established, you will work alongside the design group to fully define the product and manage prototype procurement to develop working prototypes. You will ensure that the product meets minimum durability requirements in collaboration with the development group and assist the cross functional group in developing products for customer demonstrations. Supporting applications engineering, you will participate in demonstrating products to potential customers and help develop production cost estimates in conjunction with the Advanced Supply Chain team. Your goal will be to advance the product to a point where it is implementation-ready and can be seamlessly integrated into existing product engineering to support production programs. In addition, this role includes coaching and mentoring ME design team in the product development process.
Key responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of automotive ECU controller and/or Electric Driveline and/or Traditional (ICE) Driveline systems and components. (Inverter and/or DCDC converter and/or Controller etc.. )
  • Understanding and interpretation of component and sub-system design requirements
  • Liaise between business development, engineering, and production plants.
  • Participate in design reviews, plant introductions, and customer demonstrations.
  • Effectively communicate new ideas and concepts to engineering management and corporate staff as required.
  • Collaborate with suppliers (internal and external), design, development, groups to realize unique product solutions.
  • Maintain an open communicative style, readily accepting input from diverse sources while filtering information appropriately.
  • Represent the business unit in corporate innovation initiatives.
  • Conduct internal design reviews to gather support and benefit from lessons learned within the larger engineering organization.
  • Able to perform engineering calculations for component and/or sub-systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of component drawing, including tolerances with GD&T, and their use in stack-up calculation.
  • Knowledge on component and/or sub-system DFMEAs used to define Special Characteristics
  • Knowledge about ADVP&R and similar component & system requirements at component & system level.
  • Understanding and implementation for PDP (Product Development Process) and EDF (Engineering Development Framework)
  • Promoting component re-use through knowledge of the global component family
  • Providing technical support for component issues arising in validation or warranty
  • Providing cost reduction ideas for their respective component families.
  • Conducting and documenting benchmarking and lessons learned reviews
  • Will mentor and coach design team and review the technical reports
What we are looking for
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor s in mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Preferred Education: Master s in mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Experience: minimum of 13+ years in the design and development of automotive driveline products preferably with a track record of launching new products into production
  • specific skills preferred: Experience with using NX CAD Software and PLM knowledge in Teamcenter
  • Demonstrated experience of component and/or subsystem design, development, validation, and release
  • Demonstrated experience in DFMEA
Preferred Requirements
  • B.E. / B.Tech/ M.E./ M.Tech in Mechanical or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 13+ years of related engineering work experience in design field
  • Experience in EV Driveline and/or ICE Driveline systems.
  • Excellent drive for results with the ability to coordinate projects from start to completion.
  • Experience Root Cause Analysis and driving result
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining 2D/3D technical drawings/models using NX CAD Software and PLM knowledge in Teamcenter.
  • Experience APQP, DFM/DFA
  • Self-directed/self-motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project)
  • Technical Writing
