Software Development Manager III, Amazon Music Metrics

At Amazon Music, big data fuels the growth of our business. To make sense of it all, the Metrics and Data Platform organization enables easy, deep, and repeatable analysis of Music customer data. We reduce the time and effort to collect data, develop events and dataset models, analyze behaviors, and deliver business reporting. Our mission is to empower all teams at Amazon to make data-driven decisions and confidently measure their results using high quality, reliable, and timely data, and self-service tools to discover and manage data.

If you love the challenges that come with big data, then this role is perfect for you. We collect billions of daily customer signals, manage petabyte-scale data across S3 and Redshift, and develop data pipelines using Airflow, Spark/Scala EMR, SQL based ETLs, and microservices. We offer self-service data management tools to automate data engineering tasks like migrations and backfills, and catalog all data for governance and discovery. We also own and operate a data lake used by 50+ Amazon teams.

You are an experienced, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented Software Development Manager who wants to lead a motivated team to solve complex big data problems. Your responsibilities include hiring, developing, and managing a cross-functional team of software and data engineers. You will guide your team to deliver across the entire project lifecycle, from design and development to deployment and operations. Your team owns mission-critical data platform services, pipeline orchestration frameworks, and a data warehouse. You will also spearhead new strategic initiatives to raise the bar on self-service analytics.

This role requires you to innovate at the intersection of software and data engineering. On the data side, you understand and practice data engineering best practices and analytical techniques, and communicate about data in business writing. On the software side, you build scalable, efficient, and resilient services, and influence the overall data product strategy to grow the business. You have practical experience in insisting on highest standards, building trust with customers, and coaching your team. In this role, you are also a site leader in Bengaluru and work with international teams across San Francisco, New York, and Mexico City.

About the team
The Metrics Data Foundations team own the modeling, ingestion, processing, serving, and management of Amazon Music behavioral data. They serve 100+ teams to process events, generate datasets, and share data by operating highly available services, compute and data pipeline orchestration, a data warehouse. This role will lead our batch data platform team that owns our data lake, data metadata collection and cataloging, and data management tools. You will work with a co-located partner team that builds on your services to develop and offer Music foundational datasets, business reporting, and insights that serve as the backbone of our business intelligence. - 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
