Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: They questioned me the basics in control systems i.e. block diagrams and explanation of it.They have asked to
mention my favorite subject(other than power system, psp, machines) having no other go i'd gone with mathematics. So they started with fourier transforms, laplace transforms basics and curve tracing, then they switched on to my project about which i'm well prepared so i'd explained all the work that i'd put in there.Today more than half the time they were questioning about my project on frequency drives.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I thought like i'm taking them to the wrong end as I could not answer many of the questions, but I managed to be
confident enough till the end.The panel was very friendly and comforting to everyone of us.

General Tips: Be confident on whatever you are speaking about(let it be project or hr).Be very well prepared with your
projects, the things that they are looking is like whether we stay with the company for a longer duration or not.If you donno something don't try to beat around the bush just say a NO,all the best for u all!!!!

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: On the basis of C.G.P.A. I was shortlisted and then direct hr cum technical interview. They mainly asked the questions from fly-ash,it's utilization and applications in civil engineering. They also asked about type and properties of cements. But being a topper of class their intention was to test only from me that he is going to do a job or not. Questions were also based on pavement materials, and how can you incorporate with fly-ash. They finally asked from me what is the mechanism of pozzolonic action and how it reduces the stripping value of aggregates.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They asked about myself, family and about my C.G.P.A.,nothing more then that.Hr people were very friendly

General Tips: Always keep your face smily.Do hard work,it's not always cake walk to get a job in any organization. You should be strong in Technical and maintain a good C.G.P.A. of 8 and above.

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: There were questions on the project done. A real time problem was posed and was asked to solve it using the knowledge of the project. The were technical questions on the basics of DSP and DICA like, What are the different analog to digital and digital to analog conversion techniques? what is the basic principle in DSP? Fourier transforms What are the basic blocks in a DSP? Sampling , Quantization and Encoding etc. In the end he asked me if I was willing to work at NTPC in the micro controller and programming applications. to which i readily agreed.

I had to apply for the company through a separate resume as prescribed by the company. There was a retired IAS officer in the selection panel . He was the chairman of the selection committee at NTPC. We had a pre placement talk at 5 pm on the previous day we were called for the interview. There were 12 students short listed for the interview from ECE department. Out of them ,only 9 turned up.There were technical people to ask questions separately for each of the branches.Applications from the students from branches of ECE, EEE and Mechanical were invited. The interviews for the ECE department started after EEE and Mechanical were done. I had a interview of hardly 20 minutes.I was made very comfortable in the interview and did not panic at any point of time. The results were out soon after the interviews finished. I was happy when my name was read out in the list of students selected for the job. There were 4 students selected from ECE. One from each category, General, OBC, SC and ST.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR round did not look very formal. I didn't even know when it started. When I entered the room , I saw around 7 to 8 people. I had to greet each of them and then took my seat when asked to. Then the selection committee chairman took my resume out, which was already given to him, and looked at my address. It said Kaghaznagar . He asked me about my father and my place of schooling and intermediate. I replied. Then having seen my address and schooling done near Ramagundam, he asked about my visit to NTPC. I told him that I did not go inside but had a view from outside. He asked me what I thought about the tall structures at NTPC. Later I learned that they were built to send out steam. Then he was impressed with my marks in the 10th and 12th classes but was not happy when he looked into my gradual decrease in the cgpa. Any way I was partly successful in convincing him for the fall in my cgpa. After this, a person sitting next to him, probably the technical staff at NTPC , had a round of technical discussion with me which I was very much comfortable with.

General Tips: In the pre placement talk, NTPC was highlighted much. The salary was good enough and the compensations and benefits were convincing. He also indicated that the placement will be given mostly in remote and rural areas. He warned people looking to work from metros not to join in NTPC. He also gave me enough time to ponder over my decision of joining the company once I got selected in it. Cgpa was indeed a factor in the selection process but it was not everything. Good luck.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: What are the projects you have executed? What are the temperatures range of storing Cryogenics? (my project [Design of pressure vessel for storing cryogenics] question) What are the insulations we apply in the design of those storage vessels? (project question) What is multi zone model? (my project [IC engines multi zone modal] (question) What happens to the performance and emissions if we increase the Air fuel ratio? On what cycle basis steam power plant works? On what cycle basis gas power plant works? Differentiate between Carnot and Ranking cycles? What are the modes of Heat transfer? Differentiate between conduction and convection? Give me a practical example of heat transfer?
The interview process is pre selection based on CGPA basis. They wont give much importance to your CGPA in the
interview. Interview performance alone matters in the selection. Maintain proper dress code, show them how a
Professional student looks like and get a good impression. In case of PSU's they observe each n every aspect including your facial expressions etc. You need not tell all questions correctly, but try to answer those questions with a Supportive reason. If you don't know the question, don't become nervous.. just tell them that I don't have idea on the topic. Make sure that you are well equipped in at least two subjects. As far as my self is considered I have studied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer and IC engines. I have also referred the Projects whatever I have executed. Before leaving they have given a compliment to mine that "You have good academic background".

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Who is your father? What do your siblings do? What is your Dream company? Why do you choose NTPC? What do you know about NTPC? Did you already talk with any persons who are already working in NTPC? Which area you want to choose in NTPC? What is the nearest NTPC to your home? Have you ever visited any NTPC? Which place you want to choose in NTPC? Vizag? Do you have any attachments to any company like internships etc.? Tell me about your schooling and achievements there? Tell me about your intermediate education and achievements there? What is your Aim?
