Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Any CAT aspirant can easily solve the quants and verbal section but the competency based section requires tons and tons of patience. there were many questions and most of them were video based questions, i.e you are supposed to watch the video and later answer which is the most apt solution for the scenario in the video.
Tips: Do the basic CAT questions and you will easily clear the round. and also try to be patient while solving the competency based questions and i can assure you that it will be a quiet tedious section
Duration: 2 hours

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: My interview was pretty peaceful. interviewer gave me option to choose any project of my interest(which i have done) and asked me to explain about it. I was talking about it for 10 mins non-stop (i think they were impressed by this) and later they asked me a simple guesstimate. THE END!!!
Tips: Be thorough with your resume. You must be knowing in and out about it and try to fill your resume with stuff related to analytics otherwise you are gonna bore them. They will check whether you are able to express yourself freely, so try to be as calm as possible. And for the guesstimate try to go through the guesstimate thread available in Quora (thats what i did) and that should be enough

Experience: 1. Axis Bank would like to minimize the losses incurred by transactions being declined. Suggest strategies and formulate it as an optimization Problem.

2. Suggest a situation where you have guided your team through a difficult situation.

3.Would you be okay with working in Mumbai?
Tips: Ans:
1. Main loss incurred is through ATM running out of cash.
Possible solutions are increasing refill frequency and increasing amount refilled. Multi-objective problem with objectives as reducing the cost incurred for refill and reducing the losses due to ATM running out of cash. Constraints being maximum refill amount and maximum refill frequency. Try to think of additional constraints which will be experienced real-time.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I had a project in finance. I did a thesis in a course financial products during my exchange period at Denmark Technical University. Basically it had a lot of "hi-funda" words. I had mentioned about Vasicek's model and Black Scholes Formula. Also about Monte Carlo simulations. I was expecting questions about them and prepared accordingly.
Tips: Whatever you mention in your resume, just look it up online and be confident about it.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There were standard quantitative, logical reasoning, data interpretation and verbal ability questions split into 3 sections. Totally around 60 questions. Total Time allowed was around 1 hour.
Apart from this there was a behavioural assessment. It had 5 sections of 8 questions each. A video clipping would simulate situations that you might face during work. You have to answer what was the best way and the worst way to react in such a situation. Time allowed is unlimited. It took around 2 hours for me to complete it.
Tips: Prepare for the test using CAT material
Duration: 3 hours
Total Questions: 100

Round: Other Interview
Experience: There was only one round of interview. It was for around 30 minutes. They asked me to explain my resume points. The interview also consisted of a case study, a guesstimate and 2 technical questions on image processing and voice recognition and 3 standard HR questions. They also asked me to suggest a business idea where i would use data analytics.
Tips: Prepare for Case study using Day 1.0 book. Prepare for Guesstimates from material posted by BC. Prepare for HR questions for 64 HR questions book. If possible take courses related to data analytics. The courses which I undertook were Multivariate Data Analysis, Prognostics & Health Management of Machine Tools.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resume shortlist was liberal, I feel. Having experience of using R or python and having worked with data is a plus. Also, coursework like Probability, Linear Algebra might help
Tips: Whether you have analytics experience or not, make sure you quantify your achievements in your resume.

Round: Test
Experience: 4 hour test - They gave us data about movies, director, three actors, all of their Facebook likes, Imdb rating, etc. Was asked to choose a director and cast from the point of view of a production house. I used R but excel was sufficient I hear.
Tips: Knowledge of R is a big plus. However, you can explain whatever you did in excel as well. Approach was given a lot of importance, I think

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: I segmented Chennai population based on income and said the least 20% might not have access to internet and very less percentage (say 10%) have access to internet. Segmented the resultant population into young, middle aged and old. Younger chennaites would have arrived after classes (it was 5 :30 pm during my interview) and most of them would be online. Middle aged ones would be mostly travelling home from work unless they worked in night shifts. Older people might not have FB accounts ( a significant percentage).
Tips: They interrupted me in between here and there. However, stay calm and explain them your procedure. Answer was not given much importance it seems

Skill Tips: Just going through the videos of the Course : Analytics Edge in Edx would be very helpful for starters
Skills: Data Analysis
Duration: 2
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: Axis Bank hired interns to its Business Intelligence team. I have a basic analytics background and interest too. Axis Bank is a good option to get an experience of how analytics is used in the Retail/Corporate banking industry.
