Test

Duration
90 Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Psychrometric Test
Interview Experience
It was a normal test to evaluate the students on how they would react to various situations in a corporate environment.
Interview Tips
Keep your thoughts straight and answer the questions honestly. It should be a piece of cake.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
25 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Making sense out of a few seemingly unrelated words
Interview Experience
A total of 7 words were given and we were told to make out whatever we could out of them. Every other candidate connected the words with Vodafone since the last word that was given was 4G (LTE Technology), but i chose to connect them with IPL. I was the first one to be selected along with two other guys, who also made their points well.
Interview Tips
They look for ideas that are novel and out-of-the-box. They are looking for individuals who can stand out from the group and also make valid points. You shouldn't join the bandwagon and talk about the same thing everyone else is talking nor should you go completely off-track making it sound gibberish. Have a strong idea or a point and go for the attack. Also do not try to intimidate others or get intimidated. Respect everyone's opinion and make sure your opinion counts.
Round 3

Behavioural Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Resume related
Interview Experience
The whole interview centered around whatever I have done in my four years of college. I was told to explain about my projects, my coordinator roles and various other activities that I have done. They also want to make sure that you are up for challenges if you're put out of your comfort zones (that's how the job is gonna be).
Interview Tips
Be confident. That is the biggest tip that can be given. Explain yourself well, make sure you let them know that you're interested in working for them and try to show them that you are capable for technical as well as leadership roles. Make sure to show yourself as a well-rounded individual with a passion for learning.
General Tips
Stay confident and motivated through the whole process, so that you would send a positive vibe in the GD and Interviews. That goes a long way, more than your other skills.
Motivation for applying
Techno-managerial profile. Vodafone brand value. Interesting work culture.
Funny Moments
I didn't start talking in the GD until 5 people have made their points and my close friend, who was also sitting next to me during the GD nudged me to start talking or else everyone would ignore me. When i did start talking and started connecting the words with IPL, everyone were puzzled and that moment I thought I screwed up. But when I had completed talking I knew that I had nailed it. :)

Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
10 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Going Slow
Interview Experience
You are given the topic or asked to choose any topic of your own. They gave us 5 minutes to discuss among ourselves about the topic and 10 minutes for the actual GD.
My GD experience went well. My team somehow was bent on connecting 'going slow' to 'digital india' and 'tech in rural india', Our final topic chosen was "Impact of going slow in digitalisation of india" keeping a product in mind.
We tried to touch upon if going slow is beneficial or otherwise in the various processes of product development (ideation, creation, implementation). we discussed reasearch for new products to be a slow process while expansion of any new idea to be fast paced and in tune with competitors.
Interview Tips
-All abstract topics mostly, so try to think beyond 'digital india' and 'tech in rural india'. Keep an open mind.
-Dont take the 5 minute discussion time lightly. They observe your leadership skills there. This is the chance where you bend the discussion to the direction you want to. And you are not even competing with each other...so bring in as many ideas as possible.
-Try to speak atleast once in the start,
-Let others also speak. Infact its a plus point if you let a person who hasnt spoken a chance 'in fair manner'.
-Avoid repeating the same idea too many times
-Conclude.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me about Yourself
  • Question 2: What drives you?
Interview Tips
Choose the answer to 'what drives you' wisely. Any technical question will follow in the same field.
Keep the answer to "Tell about yourself" structured.
Round 4

System-on chip?
As a design engineer, what are the parameters you think are required for a new age chipset?

Group Discussion
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
20 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Great Indian Jugaad
Interview Experience
The topic was a bit surprising as it is a totally unrelated one. But Vodafone , through its discover program , offers managerial role, so the arbitrary choice is justified. Frankly , I didn't know the meaning of Jugaad back then, but was able to pick it up as the discussion proceeded. I started slow , waited for my moments , and was never aggressive. I didn't speak much , but I spoke the right stuff at the right time and that is what mattered.
Interview Tips
1) Be confident and make sure you are audible. Talk as if you own the room and the game is in your pocket2) Stick with your point. Give plausible reasons for your stand and don't blabber random stuff3) If you feel the discussion is getting out of scope, try to bring stability to the group. Also try to resolve any arguments , as it might affect the entire group.4) "NEVER" speak when another person is talking. Respect other's viewpoints. But make sure that you get to speak.5)
General Tips
The company atmosphere is really friendly and you get to make many friends .

Group Discussion Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Interview Experience
Two rounds of GD. (30 minutes)"Morality is the creation of the weak to suppress the strong"More of an argument/debate with 2 groups. They want you to argue and point out why they should prefer one group over the other. They look for people with good communication skills, articulate effectively and drive home your points, how you analyze a situation, spontaneity etc.
Round 2

Interview

Interview Experience
One HR interview: (10-15 minutes)They might ask for details regarding your projects, if they are relevant to the profileThe interview was more of a formality than a selection round. They give more weightage to the GD
Interview Tips
LAN has a plethora of books on prep for interviews. Be prepared for common questions.Every non-core company asks more or less the same questionsThey also test your basic coding skills (C, MATLAB)Try to revise some basic core courses. Also go through some interview preparation books available on LAN. You can also look up on net for most commonly asked questions while recruiting by any particular company
General Tips
In case you haven't set your eyes on any of the day1-2 companies, or any other core companies in particular, be warned: Programming skills are a must. It‟s quite frustrating to see that almost every other company looks for a programmer and you'd be competing with CS guys for the profile
