Interview Experience
There were many different panels taking interview. Some had to go through series of interviews to get selected. But luckily I gave 1 interview only and so it was a combined Technical and HR interview. Firstly a panel was alotted to me in the morning. So I was waiting for my interview patiently. In the process I was getting tips from people who had already gone through the process. But at some time in the afternoon I was called by some different panel. I rushed there immediately. Asking the people around I came to know that they are here for HR interview and they had worst experience inside. I got very tensed. I was the last person in the panel. When my turn arrived it was already 4.45 in the evening. I knocked the door and they asked me to wait till they call me. I thought that they are checking my Facebook profile because I heard some rumors before. Then finally I entered. I greeted them and my interview started. Since the interview was combined, I was asked both technical and personal questions. They even asked me if I had lunch. I said no because I didn't get any time to have lunch. It was a nice gesture from them to offer me some biscuits. I gave my remaining interview eating biscuits. My interview was very positive and there were no double thought after the meeting.
Interview Tips
First and for most important, Do Your Homework well. You need to know about the company you are joining.
Don't act over smart. Be polite because you are not doing a favor to them by joining.

  • Question 7: Explain. Difference between primary key and unique key
Interview Experience
In technical round you will be asked simple conceptual questions. Never ever show how smart you are because interviewer is smarter than you. Keep calm and be confident. If you do not know answer of any question, simply say no and do not proceed with half answers or wrong answer because they will trap you in your own answer.  In this round you will be asked question mostly from your CV. If you are a CSE/IT guy then never ever rely only on your CV. It entirely depends on the interviewer mind. If they do not see your resume then you will be asked question from any topic related to CSE/IT branch. So the idea is to prepare well for the subject and topic you have mentioned in your CV and also keep sound knowledge of other CSE/IT subjects.  This is what happened in my P. I. . They reviewed my resume but not even a single technical questions they asked related to the subjects or topics mentioned in my resume. So guys/gals be prepared and have a basic knowledge of important CSE/IT subjects ( Data Structure, DBMS, C/C++, JAVA, Operating Systems,  Software Engineering etc.) .   They do not go in depth of any subject and ask only basic questions.

TCS N/A interview

, 8.3k views
Ayan DasguptaFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at RCC Institute of Information Technology for N/A role at TCS
Interview Process
Test HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Interview Experience
The Verbal section requires once to compose an email with a minimum of 50 words (in some cases it may be 70) with a list of phrases mentioned. My topic was the one regarding ‘seeking permission to carry a camera to office premises’, which is already posted on this helpful website. So you see TCS is repetitive with their question set. The important thing to note here would be the names of the recipient and the sender. I would suggest all to type out the salutation and signing off initially (make double sure you put the names correct) and fill in the body after that. Also the phrases need not necessarily appear in your body in the same order as in the question. Try not exceeding 100 words, an optimal measure ranges from 70-85. Needless to say, spelling and grammatical errors should not feature in your mail at all.
And yes, all this in 10 minutes.

For the Analytical round, practice as much as possible from m4maths.com, the list of commonly asked TCS quant questions. Some of my friends reported that they found as many as 22 questions common out of the 30 they had to answer, so one can imagine the repetitive nature of their question sets. The cut-off varies depending upon the reputation of your institute, but I feel you need a minimum of 70% attempt to have your examination considered by the computer.
Round 2

HR Interview

Interview Experience
I had just a single interview round, split into two sections.

First, the Technical part. The interviewer (hardly 3-5 years elder to me) asked me to explain any project I did. I made sure whether he meant the Final Year Project or the Summer Training. He didn’t specify, and so I went on with the latter (considering the FYP is just in the Planning stage). He asked a few questions on it (it’s a site built using PHP & MySQL). What they check is whether you have put in some effort on it or just let your team mates do it. I came up with satisfactory answers. Then he grilled me upon DBMS. Please not that people in the industry deal with DBMS and queries for the major part of their time. So it’s that one subject that they have the best grasp on. Be prepared on this subject. I wasn’t even asked to choose my favorite subject, straight bombardment of DBMS questions.

Some of the questions were, What is an instance of a DBMS? What does one mean by DDL, DML? Then he put up a situation wherein he has a large populated DB and wishes to get rid of the data. What should he do. I said truncate the DB. Then he asked me the difference between the two, i.e. Truncate and Delete. I gave him the answer. He grilled me further asking the transaction level difference (Committing, Logging and all). I gave him the exact opposite to the actual difference, but confessed upon realization. He smiled.

The technical questions were followed by the HR ones. The technical interviewer yielded his seat to a lady and she flipped through my CV. I had mentioned Sports as my hobby, and so was asked to draw comparison between sports and Work-life. I spoke on Team-effort and that really impressed her. Then she briefed me about the Service Agreement Rules and inquired if I had any problems relocating considering me being the lone child of my parents (again a thorough CV scrutiny), to which I convinced her about my flexibility. She then took my WBJEE rank before ending the session.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Please be prepared to answer questions on your FYP and Trainings.<br /> Study the basics really well. Have the concepts ingrained in you head. They check your concepts, not how much you can cram up. Usually simple questions are asked. If you’re asked tough questions, don’t panic. Try answering the with some logic, (like the Truncate v/s Delete question in my case). Even if you answer it incorrectly but backed by some logic, they’ll appreciate it.<br /> <br /> Retain your composure. And be involved in the system of preparation. It can’t happen in one week. Devoting a few hours every week for months is what I would suggest, only peak at the right time. And just BELIEVE in your abilities. That’s the main artillery on your side.

    TCS Assistant System Engineer interview

I was interviewed on-campus at JNEC for Assistant System Engineer role at TCS
    Interview Process
    HR Interview
    Round 1

    HR Interview

    Interview Experience
Many of you might get shocked by this but my first and last round of TCS selection process was HR round. I was qualified for direct HR round as I had cracked the 1st round of TCS coding competition Codevita'15. I always knew that I would get an aptitude test exemption because of this but never had thought that this competition would prove to be so beneficial for my future. Waiting for my turn from 8:00 am in morning, I was finally called at around 9:00 pm in evening. I was nervous as this was my first interview ever for any company and I knew as this was the first and last round, they would ask me everything which they couldn't ask me in Technical and Management round, so I was fully prepared for that. After going inside, the only question they asked me was to explain me the code which I had submitted in the Codevita'15 competition just to confirm whether I had did it myself and there was no plagiarism. Once I explained the code, 99% of my job was done. After that they told me that this was just a formality and that I was placed. That moment for me was priceless. I was stunned and shocked because that interview lasted for just like 10-12 minutes. They also told me that I have the privilege to select the domain in which I wish to work and also I would be given the preference to select the job location. One competition and I was through. There cannot be any feeling better than this.
    Interview Tips
Only 2 students (including me) from our college got placed in TCS in similar manner, rest all had to go through all the rounds in the selection process. As far as TCS is concerned, 75% of your job is done, if you're through with the aptitude test. More than 50% of your competitors get eliminated in this test. Then for the Technical, you should prepare core subjects of your academics, like for a Computer Science engineer like me, I am expected to know basics of C,C++,C#, Web technologies, Database, Operating System etc. So go prepared with basics of your core subjects and you're through. For HR round you are expected to know the background or history of the company for which you are applying. Never try to bluff the HR with your answers because that way, you'll get eliminated. Also try to be in touch with the competitions of TCS and be a part of them. They are a good value addition to your knowledge.

There was a exemption given for people with above 7.9 CGPA. I was exempted from analytical section since I had a CGPA of 9.09. I had to attempt only the verbal section.

The question I got in Verbal was: Use the given outline to write an e-mail to your client, Margaret, explaining that the Accounts receivable project is late. Sign the e-mail as Sandra.
