Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
its just a bit of luck needed for this round. the main thing is that your Resume has been viewed by them and then only you are shortlisted. unless until they got an eye on your resume, you can't be selected. Sometimes its a hard luck that your resume is not selected but by fellow readers, don't loose your heart, try try until you fly.
Interview Tips
your resume should be to the point and try to finish it in just 2 pages. Just show the juices in you, not the hard-work work behind them. Its not the right place. "Brag" as much as you can but but ..... I am stressing on But, brag about that only about which you know completely. always remember that, Judges behavior always depends on your resume. Their Questioning will be completely related to the stuff you have tried to mention in your Resume. So always mention those things only about whom you can give the details.

Technical Interview
Round 1

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Run us through your life till this point. [What?!?]
  • Question 2: What are the various differences between the different modes of heat transfer? [A pure core question that tests you to the core]
  • Question 3: I want to design an air-cooled radiator for an engine. How would you decide the number of fins? [Considerable time was spent on this]
  • Question 4: what would you do to reduce the risk of Global Warming posed by using R12 in air-conditioners? [I said use R134a. Apparently, this is not completely environment-friendly. The Americans are trying to fool us by saying so, so we buy their R134a ACs, according to the interviewer]
  • Question 5: What is the difference between a summation and an integral? [This was asked because I mentioned Math as my strongest point]
  • Question 6: In what cases is the Simplex method of solving simultaneous equations used?
  • Question 7: Which sector of the industry do you think will boom in the next five years? [My answer: Statistics]
  • Question 8: Do you have any questions for us?
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
[It's generally good to ask them a question or two here. I asked them if I could choose my preferred work location, and how the work-culture was at Tata Motors]
General Tips
1. I felt the Apti was the toughest part in the whole process. 45 seconds is just not sufficient to answer the questions esp. the ones on Probability; so brush up on the math! If you've learnt your concepts well, the technical questions ought to be a breeze.

2. Make sure you speak some sense at least thrice in the GD, and you're through.

3. They never once interrupted me in the PI. They waited for me to complete what I was saying, and then the next question was based on my last two sentences! So be very careful of what you're saying esp. while answering the technical questions. Most importantly, be very genuine throughout the interview- speak your heart out- and don't worry about how it's going, in the middle of it!

Good luck.

Tata Motors interview

PATHIKONDA GOKULFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at NIT Warangal for Tata Motors
Interview Process
Test Group Discussion Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
75 Minutes
No. of Questions
75 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Aptitude Test.
  • Section 2: Technical.
Interview Experience
It was a computer based exam. Each question was timed. We got about 30 seconds for each aptitude and quantitative question, which everyone felt was less. The Technical questions were given about 45 seconds per question, which is more than what you require since it was usually know-not know questions.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
30 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Nuclear Deal - should India go for it ?
Interview Experience
The process was straight forward. 11 ppl shorlisted were around a table and we were to discuss the topic. I felt Group Discussion is just another discussion we usually make with our friends, and that was what even their officials told us. But this one will be slightly official, which demands language and more importantly, body language. I talked what little I knew about the topic. But learnt much more from the discussion. I also asked my friends some doubts I had regarding the topic and we discussed casually, and concluded India should go for the nuclear deal.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
Myself, like the other 4 friends shortlisted for the interview, were asked questions on fits. I was also asked questions on gear box, the types of gears present in it, the firing order of a 6 cylinder engine, and why it is so. They saw the way i approached the problem, rather than the solution. I felt so because I could see they were satisfied sometimes, when I didnt give a precise solution but felt my approach is good. The questions were automobile and slightly, manufacturing related, mainly because I said in the beggining itself that I might not be interested in entering the management and sales profile they were offering.
Round 4

HR Interview

Interview Experience
I didnt have much of a HR interview. The only question I was asked was about my decision to join TATA Motors. My interview was the shortest of all
Interview Tips
It is mainly into manufacturing, but should be entering large scale designing very soon. One should be ready to take the challenge of Mechanical Engineering, but the places of work are not that preferable ones barring a few. I suggest this company for anyone with true passion for core mechanical engineering
