Round 1

Test

Duration
60 Minutes
No. of Questions
80 questions
Interview Experience
The aptitude section questions were simple, all you need is speed. Topics were mainly ratio proportion, speed and distance, time and work. English part was essentially simple. The technical section covered almost whole of the syllabus of chemical engineering BTech. Prepare from previous years GATE papers. Many questions were repeated. Short-listing was mainly on the basis of aptitude. Before interview we were given a form to fill. In which basic questions like Why RIL, Five years Plans, favourite subjects etc were asked.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
Interview started with my introduction, in brief. Then the interviewer asked why I chose chemical engineering, why not branches like CS and IT, because mostly girls prefer those branches.  I told him that I was concerned about environment and energy crisis prevalent in the world and I had a belief that chemical engineers could develop new technologies to curb the menace of pollution and hence, I chose this branch. He asked me about my training. I told him what all I could. He did not cross question me, so I had to tell him everything by myself. Then he asked me my favourite subject, which was Mass Transfer. He asked me what all topics have I studied in that subject. I started to tell him the topics with their brief introduction. When I started for distillation he asked me how would I calculate number of plates in a distillation column. I explained the whole process. He seemed to be satisfied. Then he asked me about my final year project. Then what do I wish to achieve in future say about 8 years. I told him. He wished me good luck for future and that is it.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
The interviewer cautioned me not to give stereotyped answers and I should be frank and give true answers. He asked me why would I like to join Reliance. I was prepared for this answer but because of his caution I carefully told my expectations with this job. He asked me about my core values and beliefs. I told him and I had to justify them with examples. I told him about my family background and everything what I felt relevant at that point of time. He asked me if  I would  like to go for higher studies. I plainly said no, but then added that if my job demands I would go for it. He asked me if I would get frustrated my job is not what I have expected. I replied cleverly that being a fresher, I don’t have much choices. Moreover, at RIL I would be given whole of chance to explore my abilities during training period and then adjust into the job accordingly. My interview ended with my question that if I am not selected for the job, can I apply off campus for it, to which he plainly replied NO, with a grin. I shook hands and left.

I was interviewed on-campus for NA role at Reliance
    Interview Process
    Resume Shortlist Test HR Interview
    Round 1

    Resume Shortlist

    Interview Experience
I had mentioned my extra-curricular activities in my resume in a detailed and organised manner (all listed in a chronological order). Most of these were techno-managerial activities (organizational responsibilities in my tech fest). I had participated in an event called Robocon which added a new dimension to me resume.
I had done a project and a couple of internships during my four years of study – I mentioned the details of these in my resume. Although the resume that we submitted was in a standard format as per the norms of our placement cell, I referred to a website of Princeton University to prepare my resume. It’s a very good website and hugely referred by students for preparing their resume. I also got some valuable insights from my seniors for building my resume.
I laid stress on my achievements related to the technical field, because I wanted to land a job in my core field of study.
    Round 2

    Test

    Interview Experience
The first round was the written test that consisted mainly of general aptitude questions (no technical questions were asked). Anyone who would have prepared for CAT (MBA entrance test for IIM’s) would have found the test easily negotiable. I myself wasn’t troubled much because of my preparation for CAT. There were 30 questions and time allotted was 35 minutes. They short-listed a lot of candidates for the next round. From mechanical engineering 8 students got short-listed.
    Round 3

    HR Interview

    Interview Experience
The next round was the personal interview round. They asked me for a brief introduction. Then they questioned me on certain points that I had written in my resume. They asked me some general questions on ‘Fluid Mechanics’ and stressed upon ‘Rotary Pumps.’ They asked me that if I had to increase the volume of the rotary pump what factor should I consider. I pondered over the question for few seconds and replied that the r.p.m. should be altered.

Further since I was involved in some societies like The A.S.M.E. (American Society Of Mechanical Engineers) and S.A.E. (Society of Automotive Engineer) which I had specified in my resume, he found a link between my area of interest which was ‘Machine Designing’ and the work done by the society and started asking me some trivial questions like ‘What is width of the thread according to A.S.M.E. standard used in the bolt.’ Then he specified a particular machine part (which I don’t exactly remember) and asked me to state the material used to build it according to S.A.E. standards. I answered these questions correctly.

      Motivation for applying
Reliance is a well known name in India. There was no such specific research done related to the company. The only fact that may be helpful is that they don’t offer office jobs as such and a past experience of plant (internship) may be helpful.
