Test

Duration
120 Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Software Engineering
  • Section 2: DBMS and OS
  • Section 3: Coding Skills
  • Section 4: Aptitude and Verbal Skills
Interview Experience
Every section had 3-4 subsections.Questions on coding skills were a bit tougher.Trees and Graphs were major topics here. Others were finding complexities, array representation of trees etc.Codes were written in c++.DBMS had normal theoretical questions and simple SQL queries. Software engineering had flow charts mainly with problem statement given and few boxes in the charts left to be filled by you from given options.Aptitude and verbal was easy
Interview Tips
Although the questions were a bit tougher but hold your nerves.Try to give your best based upon whatever you have studied till date.Apply all your logics and you can solve it.Total 200 students took the test and they shortlisted around 60. So even if you do a bit better than others you have very good chance to get shortlisted for the next round.
Do well in aptitude section. They will be easy and will maximize your score.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Explain your internship project.
  • Question 2: Given a matrix.Write a code to print the transpose of the matrix.
  • Question 3: Write code to find the middle element of a linked list.
  • Question 4: Explain multitasking and multiprogramming.
Interview Experience
My internship project was a java framework for automation of unit testing and the interviewer took special interest in that.He gave ample time to think about the logic for codes. This round was not so tough.
Interview Tips
Make sure that you know your projects thoroughly with all the pros and cons with all the future aspects. They were least interested in which language you are coding. Even if you get the logics correct and write the algorithms you were selected for the next round.
Round 3

Puzzle Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: In a bag you have 20 black balls and 16 red balls. When you take out 2 black balls you take another white ball.If you take 2 white balls then you take out 1 black ball and if balls are of different color you take out another black ball.If you continue doing this what is the last ball that will be left

  • Question 4: Write a code to count the number of times '1' occurs from 1 to 999999
Interview Experience
This round was a bit rougher. I couldn't answer one puzzle. The interviewer was adding more stress to environment. Even for your correct answer he was acting as if you have given a wrong answer. He was a man with no emotions. May be he was checking how far you can pretend to be confident.
Interview Tips
Seeing his emotions I seriously felt that I am not going to get shortlisted for the next round although I had answered remaining questions perfectly. So don't get disheartened. Situation will be same for all.Be confident.Whatever you know express that confidently.

  • Question 4: Asked about ppt.What you liked.If I have any questions.
Interview Experience
This round was not so tough.Although he asked me to write code in c.I asked him if I can write in java as I am more comfortable in java.He said I will be more than happy if you can write in English language and just give me flow chart considering all the constraints.
Interview Tips
Even if you are not from CSE background, try to think logically. They were not seeing your coding skills rather they were more concerned with your logic and algorithms. They were giving ample time to think.
Round 5

Test Sections
  • Section 1: Aptitude
  • Section 2: Logical Reasoning
  • Section 3: English
  • Section 4: Technical
Interview Experience
According to me the time given was little less than time required to solve these many questions. Questions were simple, speed was important. I had attempted Technical and LR sections properly and could attempt few questions of English, because of time constraint. You should maintain speed from beginning only. They say there is no negative marking, but they check accuracy, which means number of correct answers to total number of attempted questions, so even if negative marking is not there, do not mark randomly.
According to me, Since I attempted technical portion properly, I got interview call Server technology and because of LR portion I got interview call for Global Customer Support(GCS). I could not clear interview for server tech, but I could clear interviews for GCS
Interview Tips
Maintain speed from beginning,
Round 2

Puzzle Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Some puzzle from google, I don't remember what it was
Interview Experience
They will just see your approach, not the answer. I was asked one puzzle and was told to come after an hour, with the proper answer.
You will have all the sources to find out results, but the thing is they will consider the answer that is framed by you.
They will just check approach. I had given wrong answer but they liked my approach, so I was selected. They called me 3 times, each time giving some different puzzle. Just think on your own, don't give them google answers.
Interview Tips
Be confident while answering questions and have some basic knowledge of Customer Support.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Compilation related
Interview Experience
Some basic question only, I knew the answer properly.
Interview Tips
Only one technical question was asked, they don't focus on your technical knowledge that much.
Round 4

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Some basic Questions
Interview Experience
This round was just for formality according to me. They asked basic questions like did you take drop in your career and all such questions.
Interview Tips
Just work hard, No matter what, You should have faith that you will get something that you deserve, may be something more than that.
Don't get depressed when you don't get in first few companies, Don't get depressed when you can't clear HR round because of your communication skills, Dont feel that you are not that good......You will get best thing at perfect time.... Oracle Technical writer interview

Application
I was interviewed on-campus for Technical writer role at Oracle
Interview Process
Test Test Technical Interview Behavioural Interview Other Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
60 Minutes
No. of Questions
50 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Basic Written Test
Interview Experience
This first round of written test was conducted to gauge the basic knowledge and proficiency of the English Language. The test comprised of  some objective sections that needed the candidates to correct grammatically incorrect sentences, list the correct order of steps, etc.
It also included a few subjective essay-type questions to depict the candidates flow of writing.
Interview Tips
As much as we think we know English very well, it's always better to keep learning more! Even if that includes checking spellings and pronunciations of words that we thought we knew correctly all along.
Round 2

Test

Duration
75 Minutes
No. of Questions
30 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Techincal Written Test
Interview Experience
This was a more thorough test to test the technical acumen of  the candidates. It had specific concept and task related questions.
Interview Tips
It's important to go through the job description and do your research about what the daily responsibilities may look like. Working on how you'll perform these tasks is equally important!
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me about the OS your phone uses? What are the other phone operating systems available in the market.
  • Question 2: Describe in steps how you downloaded any software recently.
  • Question 3: What do you know about Databases? Especially the Oracle Database.
  • Question 4: What knowledge to you have about PL/SQL?
Interview Experience
Having had absolutely no technical background at all, this was the toughest round for me. I knew the answers to some questions and didn't know the answers to most! I was honest about the fact that I didn't know certain answers and didn't try to come up with answers that I thought would be correct. That seemed to have worked for me as the interviewer appreciated the honesty.
Interview Tips
Textbook answers are cliched! Be real, be honest and admit if you don't know something rather than pretending that you do.
Round 4

Behavioural Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: What if you and a teammate propose two different ideas for a project and only one can get chosen? What would your approach be like?
  • Question 2: If you know two team members don't get along with each other and they both come and speak to you about the other person, how would you handle both these colleagues?
Interview Experience
This round was an interesting experience because no matter how prepared you go for an interview, you never know what hypothetical situation you may end up in. It helps you understand yourself better, too!
Interview Tips
Ask a few friends to conduct a mock interview for you before your actual interview. Different people bring in different perspectives so they'll ask you different kinds of questions to help prepare you for this round.
Round 5

Other Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Who's your favourite teacher in college and why?
  • Question 2: What are your other interests?
  • Question 3: What kind of books do you like reading?
Interview Experience
This round of interview was with the managers. It was a fun round because they kept it extremely informal and fun. They wanted to observe the kind of team player I'd make and it also helped me establish a comfortable rapport with them.
Interview Tips
Always aim at all-round development. A corporate office environment goes way beyond just your work. Your sincerity, integrity, adaptability, and accommodating levels matter, too.
General Tips
I can't stress enough on how important it is to be yourself during an interview. It'll also make you less stressed about the whole experience. Put in effort to prepare with all your data and facts, but also try and make the interview as interesting as you can for the interviewers. You have to show how and why you're different from the many other candidates that they're going to meet.
Motivation for applying
Great brand value for a fresher and a relatively upcoming job profile.

Oracle APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER interview

2.4k views
AnonymousFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus for APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER role at Oracle
Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Test Puzzle Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
I had a standard resume for this company as per our institute placement cell norms.I usually changed my “Areas of Interest” as per the company profile. For Oracle I mentioned subjects that dealt with coding and also about my other projects which had even little bit of programming.
Round 2

Test

Interview Experience
The test comprised of different sections. These were related to general aptitude, data interpretation, programming, logical reasoning and character recognition (e.g. you had to find the matching string in a set of given strings). A large number of questions were from topics like data structure and a few were from programming. The paper was difficult – particularly the questions on data structure were very difficult. In data structure questions were mainly asked from trees and stacks. There were different comprehensions that were dedicated to the use of AVL Tree.
Also there were few simple theoretical questions on database management related to primary key, foreign key etc. For the logical questions one can go through the guild website of Oracle, where the complete set of questions asked in the paper can be found. The aptitude test was not difficult but the time allotted was the main factor that affected the performance.
Round 3

Puzzle Interview

Interview Experience
The first interview was aimed at testing your logical reasoning ability and programming knowledge. The questions here were puzzle based and focused on testing the logical ability of the candidate. An example is if there are 100 beam balls, all of the same weight except one, then what are the minimum number of weighing attempts required to find the odd ball with the help of a beam balance. Then they moved on to asking some very basic technical questions like how to create stacks and queues using any programming language. The logical questions and puzzles asked in this round were quite common ones. One would need to look around on the internet – finding these puzzles etc. is tough but they are available for free.
Interview Tips
Oracle gives a lot of weightage to the projects and the internships. If you had one of these related to some coding stuff then you have an added advantage. Also knowledge of data structures is a must.
Round 4

HR Interview

Interview Experience
In the second phase of interview a mixed bag of HR questions (Human Resource) and technical questions were asked. The HR questions included questions like ‘Why do you want to join Oracle’ and ‘What are your future plans?’  The interview process was very smooth and they were not looking for essentially only coding. They were looking for people with good logical thinking and could apply their brains if required for learning and writing codes and programs. The next round was also a technical cum HR interview. They wanted check my willingness to join the company and the fact that whether I will stick with the company or not. The technical questions were simple and they just wanted to check the facts that I had mentioned in my resume.
Interview Tips
A candidate vying to get recruited in the company should have substantial knowledge on data structures.
Motivation for applying
Oracle is a renowned company. It has been coming for placements in our campus for many years. This time it came with 5 different profiles. The information regarding all these could be best found by attending the Pre Placement Talk.Walk in interview was conducted for students who had studied the course of Data Structures. They had also conducted a written test but no weightage was given to it for those students who had attended the course on data structures.

Round 2

Test

Duration
70 Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Technical
Interview Experience
Technical had 2 parts:
1. basic computer subjects like operating systems, DBMS, SQL queries, c, computer organizations, algorithms. It was for 30 minutes.
2. Data structures with 15 questions of 40 minutes time limit. This was the difficult part.
They shortlisted 85 out of 270 members after the online test.
Interview Tips
Concentrate on aptitude and computer Sc. subjects.
Here assessments are done for each question that you answer, that means if you answers question that needs 2 minutes in 10 seconds, the online analyzer analyzes that it was guesswork or you would have asked someone. The answer would thus not be considered even if it is right. So be careful.
Round 3

FORM

Interview Experience
They were recruiting for two streams- Applications and Consultancy.
We were given a form to opt.
I chose applications and had to give another written exam.
For consultancy profile, you could directly attend the interview.
Round 4

Test

Duration
30 Minutes
No. of Questions
2 questions
Interview Experience
Two questions were asked.
First was a puzzle- We have 12 marbles and one weight balancer. In those 12 marbles, 1 is heavier or lighter than other 11 marbles. In how many minimum iterations can you find the odd one. (Answer-2)
The second was a program- write a program for search string and replace the string with given string in entire given BIG string (in any language, but
don't use predefined methods...substr() in java like that etc....you can use strlen() method for knowing string length ).
65 of the 85 had applied for applications and about 35 cracked the written exam.
Round 5

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
They asked basic technical questions like DBMS. They mainly concentrated on puzzles in this. This interview lasted for 45 mins.
Round 6

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
This interview was for 2 and a half hours.
In both rounds they asked me nearly 20 puzzles and programs.
Puzzles included:
1. There are 25 horses. You have to find 1st, 2nd,3rd place horses after conducting race and you can conduct race for 5 horses at a time. How many times will you conduct races for finding positions of horses?
2. There are two glasses, one containing water and the other with milk. Suppose you take some water from the water glass with one cup and
pour it into milk, and then you again take milk from the milk glass with same cup and pour it in water, then what is their purity?
3. There are 4 persons A, B, C and D. The time taken to cross bridge from one end to another end for each of them is 1,2,5,10 respectively. The bridge is very old so two people at a time can cross the bridge. and there is no light on the
bridge. The 4 people have only one torch. There is no light on the bridge. So torch is compulsory for every one. How many times will it take for those people to cross the bridge?
Programs included:
1. Write a program for Sudoku puzzle
2. Write program to find reverse of number
3. Separate string and its length. i.e input string contains string and it's length at end. String may have digits and alphabets.
For xample:
I/P: praveenkumar14
here total string length is:14 i
Its length is appended ,so you have to separate praveenkumar and 14
Interview Tips
Don't tell the answers immediately if you know them. Take time to answer and meanwhile pretend to think.
Mainly concentrate on puzzles and aptitude.
Do not be nervous in the interview. Be patient as the interview may last up to 4 hours.
Round 7

HR Interview

Interview Experience
In this round they asked me about myself and they confirmed the details i gave.
They also asked about project and my family. It was for some 10 minutes.

Resume Shortlist Test HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
I had a standard resume for this company as per our Institute placement cell norms. I had mentioned all my achievements, academic and extracurricular, in my resume.I had the same resume for every company. I only used to change the subjects mentioned as my area of interest to make sure that they are in line with the job profile being offered by the company.
Round 2

Test

Interview Experience
The first round of selection process was an online test. The test comprised of technical questions as well as general aptitude/logical based questions. It is important to prepare well for technical as well as general aptitude based tests. I practiced questions from CAT preparation material/books to prepare for aptitude based tests.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
The second round of the selection process was an interview round. Almost every student had at least 2 interviews.
In the first interview, most of the questions asked were typical HR type questions. They mainly wanted to gauge the candidate’s interest in working for their company. A few technical questions were asked as well. One of the questions asked was about Bubble Sorting Algorithm. Some 30 students appeared for this interview (for Application Development Profile) and 20 students were shortlisted for the next interview.
In the second interview, I was asked some simple mathematical problems and some programming based questions. The questions asked were:
There is a two digit number. The sum of its digit is known. The sum of the number itself and the number obtained by reversing the digits is also known. How would you find the number? How would you implement these equations in a program? There is a string with opening and closing brackets. How would you find (using a program) if in the string there is a closing bracket for every opening bracket? In the third interview, again some programming based questions were asked. As the interviewer himself graduated from the Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee, he also asked a few questions from Electrical Engineering. Some of the questions asked were:How would you find the number of words in a given paragraph?
How many registers are there in a microprocessor (say 8085)? How is the information stored during a program run?Questions related to Control Systems.Questions related to Magnetic Levitation.
Interview Tips
If you are thorough with only C++ then mention only C++ as the language known in your resume. Do not mention things/languages/courses you do not know or have not studied. Also Electrical Engineering students have more chance of getting selected in the application development profile as compared to other profiles offered by Oracle (like Systems, Communications etc.) if they have studied the relevant courses or have the slightest of interest or knowledge about programming.
Motivation for applying
My main source of information about the company and the profile was the company’s pre-placement talk and the company website.

Oracle conducts an online test in the beginning of the semester. This test consists of general aptitude, verbal ability, C output type questions.
Many divisions of Oracle visit the campus throughout the semester and all of them use these test scores. So, it is advisable not to miss this test.
For Server Tech profile, around 30 were shortlisted for interviews. Most from CS/IT and few from other branches.
Round 2

Interview Round 1 : Explain projects. Questions were asked based on whatever you say your strong topics are. So, be thoroughly prepared with one of them atleast. Was asked about normalisation in DB, basic linked list questions. A guesstimate type question was also asked. 13 were selected for next round.

Skill Tips
This is for the software junta. First of all, if you are from CS/IT, there are a plethora of companies coming in the first month itself. So, it is important to be prepared beforehand. Make good use of your summer. I cannot overstate the importance of DSA in placements. Please go through Karumanchi and/or geeksforgeeks. Both of them are equally good. At the same time, brush up the other fundamentals : DB, OS, Networks.
Resources

Books
  • Head first Java,
  • DSA made easy : Narasimha Karumanchi,
General Tips
To even have a sniff at getting placed, clearing the first round is mandatory. I have seen many deserving people falter in the first round. So, please don't overlook this. Let Us C and Test your C Skills by Yeshwant Kanetkar are the best for this purpose. Many companies lift questions straight off these books.

Do NOT ignore general aptitude. We all think we are good at it, until we realise there are many others who are better. So, practice from aptitude books, online resources.Again, please make good use of your summer. Otherwise, you'll be playing catch up for the first few weeks, like me.

Placements are probably the most challenging experience for most of us in college. If you've got a PPO, nothing like it.

It will be very exhausting. You may feel like giving up. Endless PPTs, interviews etc. But, never lose your determination and you will be rewarded for your hard work.

And the joy after getting placed.

The tech rounds focused mostly on coding. You can choose any programming language that you are comfortable with. They are not insistent that you know Java. I chose C++. The interviewers mainly look at how you approach the questions (the way you solve the question - if its the most efficient/fastest solution to the problem). They will also ask quite a lot of puzzles (the ones you can prepare from Heard on the street, 400 puzzles etc.) and a few CAT quant qns.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
HR round is very easy
Interview Tips
basic qns that you will prepare for any company. Be sure to attend the PPT; the HR will surely ask you a few qns from it. Also know a bit about the company and the profile you are sitting for.
General Tips
The test is the only criteria for getting shortlisted to the interview round. There are certain Oracle profiles that are only open for CS and one which has a CG cutoff of 8.5. But for the App Dev profile there was no CG cutoff. your performance in the test is most important, because they generally do not entertain walkins during interview. Resume is not that important. Only HR team will have a look at it. If you have any coding experience (from any projects) or Java certification then its an added bonus. But its not mandatory.

1st year- concentrate on CGPA

2nd year - find out what you want(core or noncore). Do internships in starts ups or finance or consult companies if aiming for non-core. PORs are important

3rd year- internships.

4th year- start placement preparation very early.

Work well on your project if you want to go for core.
