ITC Supply chain internship interview

Application
I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Madras for Supply chain role at ITC
Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Group Discussion Technical Interview Technical Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
This step is one of the most important steps in the process. Here, you have no say whatsoever. Your entire life written on one side of a page is what decides if you are eligible for the internship. I spent almost 6-7 hours everyday for a week to prepare my resume.
Interview Tips
Always get your resume reviewed by 3/4 seniors. Not only your immediate seniors, but also pass outs. This helps a lot since they have way more experience as compared to you in this aspect.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
25 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Moral Issues. A long problem statement was given describing the situation. We need to conclude by deciding as to who is to blame in the given situation.
Interview Experience
I had deep confidence in myself for clearing Group Discussion, since I felt I could talk my way through any situation. It is very important to talk to your group members beforehand. This helps in establishing a connect with others, making it easy for you to open up to them.
Interview Tips
Please turn off your phone, or at least turn it silent. During my GD, one guy's phone rang, and the room suddenly turned awkward. Talk freely. No need to look at the moderators. Have a normal discussion and speak your heart out, but do not dominate. Also, do not repeat points, and do not speak unless you have a valid point.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Questions on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics
  • Question 2: Describe your previous Intern
  • Question 3: Describe about your extra/co-curricular activities
  • Question 4: Why ITC?
Interview Experience
My interview was very relaxed. There were others who found it tough to answer questions asked in the interviews. Do revise the relevant courses before going for interview. ITC has a form named KITES, which you are supposed to fill while submitting your resume. Fill it properly, and go through it before going for resume.
Interview Tips
Be fluent in English, it helps more than you think. Do not lie about anything in your resume. They definitely ask you questions based on what you have written in your resume and KITES form.
Round 4

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Describe about yourself
  • Question 2: Describe all the projects mentioned in your resume
Interview Experience
My second interview was very peaceful. I was just asked about my projects. I felt they were testing me on how involved I was with my previous projects.
Interview Tips
Feel relaxed if you have reached till here. You are a very possible candidate for the internship. Just be yourself!

General Tips
Be relaxed. If you are worthy, you shall get the internship. Discuss with your friends on how you will answer the HR questions.
Motivation for applying
This is one of the few companies that come to IIT Madras on day 1 of internship drive. I talked to my seniors who interned at ITC. The way in which this company is different is that the work profile is a techno-managerial one, and a purely technical one. This lies in my interest.

ITC Management trainee - technical interview

VISHWAS AGGARWALFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Kanpur for Management trainee - technical role at ITC
Interview Process
Group Discussion Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
20 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Topic is generally the same as that at the time of intern or last year placement (of prioritizing options or things or causes).
Interview Experience
There were 8 of us.
Interview Tips
1. Don’t be dominant, try to put your points confidently in such a way that the group agrees to the priority number you set.
2. Though it is always good to start a GD and lay down a structure which others follow but then also it’s not sure that you will be selected.
3. Keep track of time and try to summarize before GD’s duration is over. Also note the priority number decided by the group on the paper given to you (most people forget to do that).
4. Keep making notes (helps in summarizing).
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me something about yourself?
  • Question 2: Questions on my B.Tech Project?
  • Question 3: Air Compressor and Refrigeration Cycle?
  • Question 4: Questions on Leadership Skills?
  • Question 5: How would you transfer a highly viscous liquid which easily gets agitated (bubble formation) from one vessel to another?
Interview Experience
It was a mix of HR and Technical interview. Panel was of 2 persons (an IIT guy serving ITC for like 2-3 years and other one a bit senior to him (wasn’t from IIT)) and interview lasted for 1 hour.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: CPI related questions (why not go for MS?)
  • Question 2: Random technical questions (Diesel & Petrol Engine, Fluidization, Pumps (what can be the possible problems when flow rate of water to be transferred in a high-storeyed building is low?), some question from Theory of Machines, etc.)
  • Question 3: Weaknesses and how I try to overcome it?
  • Question 4: Their views about me and then asking my views about myself?
  • Question 5: Last question (the 1st and the last question in the whole interview from the man (who kept looking at me very keenly the whole time) who seemed to be an HR guy): Have you ever fallen in love?
Interview Experience
It was also a mixed interview. Panel was of 2 very senior members (one seemed to be an HR member and other one seemed to be a Factory or Division Manager) and the interview lasted for 1 hour.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Energy Systems both 1st and 2nd (for ME study pumps separately)
General Tips
1. Do take a sleep of at least 3-4 hours before coming for the interview.

2. Never try to be over smart or over confident about yourselves. PLEASE prepare for the interviews and GD. GD topics are the same as previous years so try them out in groups.

3. Don’t reach at the final answer in an interview without proper reasoning or paperwork. Speak what you are thinking. They will be giving some cues to help you.

4. At least make an elaborate diagram in questions related to thermo and fluids (mark the details). Mug up the pumps classification.

5. Also don’t try to copy the form from someone else. Be yourself.

6. Prioritize your companies. Give some thought to what you enjoy doing rather than just running for the money. It’s better to talk to people already working in the companies you are targeting, ask them about the work profile and then come at a decision.

7. It’s a myth that some companies have a hit list although it can be the case that you may feel that you are at a lower priority but if you perform better than everyone else then you will be the one hired.

8. Try not to put your foot in more than 2 sectors or 4 companies on the 1st day.

9. Once you are qualified for the interview round then CPI can never be the reason for not selecting you. Keep in mind that you are never rejected, either you are selected or not selected. And, it’s just a beginning to your career.

10. From whatever I learnt form asking people is that 10-15 years down the line everyone would be almost at the same level independent of your starting package and you will be thinking how stupid you were at the time of placements running madly for money or brand name. So, go for what you want rather than what your wingie or any XYZ person wants.

ITC Aut - assistant under training interview

J. Vijay PrasadFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Madras for Aut - assistant under training role at ITC
Interview Process
Group Discussion Other Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
20 Minutes
Interview Experience
The Group Discussion happened in groups of six. We were also given five minutes of prep time. We were presented with five different energy sources available in a hypothetical region.
Interview Tips
The objective was to choose the best alternative to solve the energy crisis in the region.
Round 2

Other Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Walk me through your resume ?
  • Question 2: Tell me about your background ?
  • Question 3: Why did you use this pump ?
  • Question 4: Why did you limit your model to these inputs ?
Interview Experience
This round was primarily core based. The first few questions were a set of typical HR introductory questions. Next thequestions were primarily about my interships and projects. I found this round pretty fast paced and rapid. They would randomly pick something from my resume and would ask me to briefly explain it. Then there were tons of follow up questions. There were also a few HR questions which were behavioural in nature - wherein you would be asked to give an instance from your life that illustrated a competency like people skills conflict resolution etc.
Interview Tips
Be through with everything on your resume.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Why ITC?
  • Question 2: Hobbies?
  • Question 3: Why should we hire you?
Interview Experience
Reasonably laid back and chilled out. I was interviewed by the CEO and an MD of the ITC Paper and Packaging division. I also got to ask a couple of questions in the end.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Make sure you are able to speak constructively about every line in your resume. Have a clear understanding of every project/internship. Revise all your courses from a practical standpoint. I would highly recommend going through the Lab experiments and their respective chapters in McCabe & Smith. Apart from Core, I was focusing on Finance. I had cleared CFA level 1 and so I revised the syllabus once. I would recommend reading the Econ, CorpFin, Portfolio Management and Derivatives portions of the level 1 syllabus. Reading ET everyday can be of great help in the interview andGD. Also pick and read about any five major Fin/Econ episodes in the world. Apart from that practice puzzles regularly. And MOST importantly prep for CAT. Almost all the companies beyond Day 1.1 have CAT based tests as a shortlisting criteria.
General Tips
Interviews are nothing but a story telling competition. Pick a unifying theme and prepare a story for yourself. This should come out in the first two/three minutes of the interview. Make sure you have a rationale behind having done everything you have put in your resume. The interviewers look at your resume in its totality and not as bunch of independent spikes. Google the company. Check out their latest corporate news, product lauches etc. Have answers ready for the following questions - Introduce yourself (2-3 minutes pitch. Clear, concise and well bucketed as acads/interns etc), Strengths & Weaknesses (Pick 3 each and back them up with instances from ur life) and Long term and short term goals (Make sure they are alligned with the firm's culture). Follow the STAR approach (Google it) to answer HR questions. DO NOT mug up answers to standard HR questions. You'll sound unnatural and fake and won't strike a chord with the interviewer. Have a set of bullet points ready and go over them in a way you would when you meet someone on a train.

ITC Supply chain internship interview

Neil PendseFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Madras for Supply chain role at ITC
Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Group Discussion Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
Resume shortlist was on the basis of CGPA. A minimum criterion of 8.0 was observed. Though certain people with CGPA above 8.0 were not selected
Interview Tips
Try to include a good combination of PORs and Previous Interns or Projects
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
25 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Plane crash survival
Interview Experience
We were given a list of 15 items which we had to arrange on the basis of the importance in the scenario of a plane crash survival. It was a good GD. I ended up starting and moderating the GD
Interview Tips
If you see that no one is taking initiative then try to moderate the GD or else try to add value addition points.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
It wasn't exactly a technical interview but rather a mix of both HR and Tech. The panel asked me about my project, a few questions of thermodynamics and about my POR. I had asked the HR lady if I could interact with PR people in ITC since I wanted to see how professional PR people work. She was interested in the question.
Interview Tips
Try to remain calm. Ask questions related to your liking. Don't just ask a question for the sake of asking one.
Round 4

HR Interview

Interview Experience
It was again a mix of HR and Technical questions. They asked me about my project. They also asked me about fonts. What is 'serif' and 'sans-serif'. I also tried to drive the interview since the panel got bored with my project information. I asked them the same question as I had asked in the previous interview. Then afterwards they asked me if I was into communication. I told them about my new hobby of pen-freindship which they liked a lot.
General Tips
Work harder on the generic HR questions like- Why you? ; Why ITC?; Why FMCG? I wasn't prepared and it was a bit painful.

Try to drive the interview where you want it to go. I was unable to do this too and it messed up with certain aspects of the interview.

Also try to be comfortable with the panel
Funny Moments
In the GD, instead of saying 'we can use a machete to kill animals' I blurted 'we can use a machete to kill people' :')

In the interview the panel asked to distinguish between serif and sans-serif. I wasn't expecting this at all.

I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Kanpur for Management trainee - technical role at ITC
Interview Process
Group Discussion HR Interview Technical Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
20-25 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
A group of people is stranded in a forest with 15 things. The group has to prioritize the materials.
Interview Experience
Number of people were 8. Generally, the topics are repeated so it would be a good idea to think about them before as everybody else will. However, one should be prepared for a fresh topic. Structuring and controlling/moderating the group is very important and will fetch heavy points. Also ITC is a very ethical company, so a proper decorum and formal environment is needed in the GD. Shouting and being a bad listener gets one negative points.
Interview Tips
One could play certain games like speaking for a minute on any random topic given by someone else. These games help remove the inhibition of speaking in English and add to fluency. The only way to improve discussion skills is practicing speaking in English on random topics.
Round 2

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Form based questions (elaborate any answer)
  • Question 2: How was your internship experience, why didn’t you get a PPO?
  • Question 3: You don’t seem like a manager, convince us that you are suitable for this profile?
  • Question 4: What kind of leadership roles have you taken in the campus?
  • Question 5: Would you prefer ITC over BCG?
  • Question 6: Suppose I am the person hiring form BCG, will your answer change to the above question?
Interview Tips
Yes, they do ask this difficult question, but the key is to remain positive and not regret any experience.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: What is a PID controller?
  • Question 2: How do you derive the continuity equation?
  • Question 3: Write down the continuity equation for a compressible flow?
  • Question 4: Explain swinging of the cricket ball?
  • Question 5: What are the different terms in the Navier Stokes equation?
Interview Experience
I was asked basics of process control (as my work in internship was linked to it ). However, I was not very comfortable with this subject, so I kindly requested them to ask from my strong subject Fluid dynamics. (Again , this is a risk which paid off in my case, might not work always.) Panel consists of 2 HR guys and one senior alum of IIT B and the duration was 40 minutes. Since my internship was with HUL, a lot of questions were asked on the project and its utility. BE thorough with any internship/projects that are mentioned in the form. I was also asked to defend my not getting a PPO with HUL.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Along with basics of equipments used in factories like pumps, Heat exchangers, mixers, etc. However basic concepts of all courses should be revised as there could be questions from controls, separation process etc.
General Tips
1. Good CPI and department rank is a big plus

2. Should have clear basic understanding of technical course materials, specially of those courses which relate to industry (eg: fluid and thermodynamics for chemical).

3. Form is very important, spare a lot of time and be thorough with all the answers

4. For people with very strong profiles, prepare convincing answers of why ITC.

5. They need strong headed people but do not be over confident or cocky

6. Lastly, always wear a smile to the interviews.

Round 1

Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
30 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
A case study was given where we had to determine which is the best form of energy for a particular village
Interview Experience
ITC usually does case GDs. The cases are fun and pretty interesting. You would be in a group of 8-10 people and you would be given a case on which your group has to come to a conclusion in 30 mins. In our case the GD centred around a village. Where the village was facing a lot many challenges with industries shutting down, people deserting the village etc. And most of them had the root cause to the lack of power. And so the group had to come to a conclusion as to which source of energy would be the best feasible for the village based on certain things that were mentioned there in the case,
Interview Tips
GD there are three tips: - Either start the discussion if you know the topic well. - Or play the role of a moderator and quip in with some important points- Or succinctly summarise all the points everyone mentioned and conclude them in a beautiful way explaining the direction in which the group inclines if you do not have much information on the topic. It is pretty important that the group reaches to a consensus.
Round 3

Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Six sigma analysis
  • Question 2: Quality sampling
Interview Experience
ITC conducts interviews way early on Dec 1. Typically around 6:30 am the interviews start. So I was pretty exhausted by being on a stretch of 3 night outs with MTP report submission, MTP presentation, and then all tests and GDs for companies. On Nov 30th as well the interviews and Gds started and it was going on till Dec 1 5 am for me. Then ITC interview was at 7 am in the morning. Interviewers were 5-7 years experienced people. Questions were related to my internship and some core courses. I answered internship related questions well. Screwed up once on a technical question. Usually they would start with one concept and then grill you in depth to understand your expertise in that.
Interview Tips
- Brush up your core concepts- You should be thorough with your internship stuff
Round 4

Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Introduction
  • Question 2: Why ITC ?
  • Question 3: Why not startup ?
Interview Experience
The HR interviewers were 25 years experienced. Pretty chill people. Asked me questions around why ITC and why not a startup ? etc.Pretty usual set of questions.
Interview Tips
Be calm. Read 64 interview questions pdf. Usually available on institute LAN

Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Group Discussion HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
The app I had to fill for ITC was really really very intensive. It took me quite some time to just come up with what I could write in my app.
Interview Tips
But have patience while writing your app, be honest (however you can tone it up, but being within limits of genuineness). Write it preferably when you are relaxed and don't do it in a haste. It does really matter what you write in your app sometimes.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
25 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
A logical real life case study.
Interview Experience
My group overall was a very decent one. We performed well as a team. And almost everybody could and did speak really well.
Interview Tips
I personally feel it doesn't matter much as to who begins or concludes a GD. Just that whenever you get to speak, be logical and make sense. Your contribution should help in driving the group towards a conclusion. Avoid redundant reiteration of points already been made and try to be systematic, as in have a proper plan that helps finish your discussion in time and speak it out loud if you have one.Speak or refute a person only when you have a solid point and be very very polite and considerate.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
Went very peacefully, without much stress, without any load, just went on talking in the flow and seemed to have got over in a flick.
Interview Tips
Be smiling always. Even if you are nervous, don't let it be apparent, fake confidence. Believe me it really helps! Apart from that, be honest and more importantly be yourself. It's really as simple as that!
Funny Moments
My first interview begins with the interviewer commenting on the way I was dressed and tells me that it was so impeccable and that he feels ashamed to sit in front of me. And then some more general and somewhat fun questions, just to make me feel comfortable.

General Resume Shortlist. The company was open for EE, ME and CHE departments. If you have a decent CPI(>8) with a some extra curriculars, you can expect yourself to be safely go through this round. There is an application for with few HR questions , which they use if you reach the interview round,
Interview Tips
Try to cover all aspects in your resume. And make sure whatever you write, you must have the ability to defend it,
Round 2

Group Discussion

Group Discussion Topic
Who's mistake?
Interview Experience
A person dies and various reasons were mentioned of his death from different perspective. We need to rank those reasons on the basis of discussion.
Interview Tips
In our group. 3-4 odd guys started fighting just in order to prove their point. Therefore those guys that gave 2-3 good points in between, went through the next interview round. Its not about speaking more, but about speaking sensible.
Round 3

Technical + HR Interview

Interview Experience
First Interview was taken by management of the committee, who did not have great experience at the firm. It was mostly resume based. So you must know each and everything about your resume. In my case, since I have done considerable research, their focus was why I am not going to go for research as this would be managerial. The trick was to convince them that this is what I want to do.
Interview Tips
Be confident in what you answer. Always keep in mind that you know yourself more about your projects that anyone else. So even if you don't remember completely. just speak with confidence. This gives them the expression that you know what you are saying,
Round 4

Technical + HR Interview

Interview Experience
I was given the second round just after my first. They stopped the next candidate going in the panel. and sent me first. That gave me an indication that they are really very serious about taking me. This one was held with the senior management officials of the company. They were more interested about the work I have done earlier in the internships, along with how I can contribute to the organisation. Also they were quite impressed by my answers in the application form.
Interview Tips
If you believe that you have done enough work during your undergraduate, you will yourself feel confident about your chances.
