Application
I was interviewed on-campus at Terna Engineering College for SOFTWARE DEVELOPER role at TCS
Interview Process
Test Technical Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
90 Minutes
No. of Questions
50 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: TCS placement process consists of two phases - Written Round (Analytical+ Verbal Ability Test ) and Personal Interview.(TECHNICAL+HR INTERVIEW)
Interview Experience
If you are taking examination of both analytical and verbal part then you will get 10 minutes for verbal part first and then 80 minutes for analytical part. Even if you solve verbal part in less than 10 minutes the remaining time will not be added to your analytical part. Analytical part consists of 30 questions need to be solved within 80 minutes. You can easily navigate the question and exam environment is same as in TCS Open See Same. You will have an on screen calculator. You can also carry a calculator in examination hall. My suggestion is to carry your own calculator because on screen calculator will only waste your time.
Interview Tips
You can refer Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma : This is the book for a CAT aspirants. Believe me if you solve LOD 1 and LOD 2, you can easily crack the analytical round. This is the sole book I used while preparing for TCS. Here you will get each concept explained beautifully. Read all the theory and solve example problems also. Do not rely on Quantitative Aptitude by R. S. AGARWAL
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: The technical round was followed by HR interview to save time.
  • Question 2: what is multithreading
  • Question 3: how is multithreading implemented in JAVA
  • Question 4: Does Java support multiple Inheritance? If not then how an interface inherits two interfaces? Explain?
  • Question 5: difference between DO-WHILE & WHILE Loop
  • Question 6: rate urself on 1-10 scale
  • Question 7: how wil you dispaly data of two tables? explain?
  • Question 8: why should i hire you
  • Question 9: why TCS
Interview Experience
I do not remember all the questions they asked me, but a few are as above. i hope it helps :)
Interview Tips
In technical round you will be asked simple conceptual questions. Never ever show how smart you are because interviewer is smarter than you. Keep calm and be confident. If you do not know answer of any question, simply say no and do not proceed with half answers or wrong answer because they will trap you in your own answer.  In this round you will be asked question mostly from your CV. If you are a CSE/IT guy then never ever rely only on your CV. It entirely depends on the interviewer mind. If they do not see your resume then you will be asked question from any topic related to CSE/IT branch. So the idea is to prepare well for the subject and topic you have mentioned in your CV and also keep sound knowledge of other CSE/IT subjects.  This is what happened in my P. I. . They reviewed my resume but not even a single technical questions they asked related to the subjects or topics mentioned in my resume. So guys/gals be prepared and have a basic knowledge of important CSE/IT subjects ( Data Structure, DBMS, C/C++, JAVA, Operating Systems,  Software Engineering etc.) .   They do not go in depth of any subject and ask only basic questions.

  • Question 2: Given an array of elements. We can perform following operation only- Increase an array element. Cost of operation is the amount of increment made per array element. Now for a given H, we need to make any H ( not necessarily consecutive ) elements of array equal with minimum cost. E.g. N=6, H=4 2 3 5 6 4 4 changes to -> 4 4 5 6 4 4 Cost is ( 4-2 + 4-3 = 3 ) N=6, H=3 2 3 5 6 4 4 changes to -> 2 4 5 6 4 4 Cost is ( 4-3 = 1 ) Optimal complexity- O(N)
Interview Experience
For the first question, I started by exponential solution and reduced it to polynomial. We
discussed various approaches and tried a variety of methods and after
1-1.5 hrs of discussion finally ended up with an O(1) solution with some
pre-processing overhead. After achiveing O(1) time complexity, he asked
to further optimize the space complexity.

dont loose your calm and avoid any silly mistakes...... try to improve your speed by regular practice coz the questions provided are easy and rest assured that you are capable enough to solve then right but all that you need to go ahead in this cut throat competition is you speed ,your confidence and your calm mind

Round 1

Test

Duration
90 Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: You are given a string that represent an expression of digits and operands. Eg. 1+2*3 , 1-2+4. You need to evaluate the string or the expression. NO BODMAS is followed. If the expression is of incorrect syntax return -1. Test cases : a) 1+2*3 will be evaluated to 9. b) 4-2+6*3 will be evaluated to 24. c) 1++2 will be evaluated to -1(INVALID). Also, in the string spaces can occur. For that case we need to ignore the spaces. Like :- 1*2 -1 is equals to 1.
  • Section 2: You are given an array of both negative and positive integers. You need to rearrange the array such that positive and negative numbers alternate. Also, the order should be same as previous array and only O(1) auxiliary space can be used and time complexity O(n). eg. -2 3 4 5 -1 -6 7 9 1 result – 3 -2 4 -1 5 -6 7 9 1.
Round 2

    Skill Tips
Infosys Internship program is structured very similar to Infosys Foundation Program. In both programs, the course is divided into two parts -<br /> Generic Training and Stream Training. Generic Training will be based on Computer Science' fundamental subjects like OOPs using Java, RDBMS using Oracle, Software Engineering, Internetworking and Operating Systems. Stream specific training will be based on a certain technology like J2EE, DOT NET, Mainframe, SAP etc.<br /> <br /> If you're unable to pass the internship program, you can join Infosys as a Systems Engineer trainee after you complete your engineering course and can undergo Infosys Foundation Program. Accommodation is free while going through internship program. You need to pay for food and for other amenities like Gym and Sports facilities.<br /> The monthly stipend during internship program is INR 8000. Advantages for opting internship program is Infosys internship program would help you to undergo the initial training course while joining Infosys. So, if you successfully complete the internship program, you need not to attend the Foundation training in Infosys. So, when you rejoin infosys after completing your b.tech course, you would join as an employee, not as a trainee. It will help you get into production much advanced to other people who go through Foundation Program. After you complete your engineering course Infosys will communicate you with a date to rejoin the organization.<br /> After you complete your internship and get posting location. When you rejoin Infosys, you have to report to that office only. Need not to come to Mysore or Mangalore again for reporting.<br /> Once you join for internship program, you have to sign a bond and if you do not opt to rejoin Infosys then you need to consider the consequences as per the rules written in the bond like paying some amount.<br /> One advantage of successfully clearing internship program is that you need not to go through Foundation program in Infosys. Both have equal weightage in Infosys. Scope of learning is same in both type of training.
