45 Minutes
Test Sections
    Interview Experience
There was an apititude test basically in line with CAT pattern. It was conducted online for about 45 min duration. The questions were rather simple but each question was time bound (around 45 sec or so).
    Interview Tips
As such I did not have any structured study plan. I did refresh some of my basics in mechanics and analysis. I was more inclined to get a job in aerospace division. Read as per your interest.
    Round 2

    Group Discussion

    Group Discussion Topic
Can consultants make this planet a smarter one
    Interview Experience
Initially, we are seated randomly in a circular manner and each one was given two minutes to describe the topic. It was followed by an tense debate where participants converged and diverged on different sets of issue. They were particularly looking for interpersonal skills and out of the box thinking.
    Round 3

    Interview

    Interview Questions
      Interview Experience
The interview was purely management type.More questions were thrown at team building, bio-data, why this company? , project, what you Can contribute for the firm?, where you see yourself in next 5 -10 years, ambitions, some amount of optimization tools and techniques, concluding remarks....Interpersonal skills and clarity in answering where mainly
IBM was a more relaxed interview, which basically dealt with management and interpersonal skills. Questions like “if one of our team mate is very stubborn, lazy, adamant, how will you tackle the situation” were asked.
      Interview Tips
College (B Tech) curricular activities, NTSC certificate, Math Olympiad certificate, all India quiz competition awards were noted and appreciated. That really was a booster. That helps in implanting an idea that you are not just blah blah blah.
      Skills

      Skills Tested

      • Mechanics
      • Analysis
      • Design
      Skill Tips
Be very sure about your mechanics, analysis and design. These three are the fundamentals.<br /> I haven prepared for placements exclusively. Here were combined discussions. However, it really helps if you can revise and make your fundamentals were clear. The basic understanding should be there. An hour every day for two months will do the trick.<br /> Be really choosy of the company you want to be in. Learn a lot more of the company and get an idea of what they are actually looking for. But still don’t freeze your mind to those realms alone.. Be open minded and cheerful. The first few questions will set the mood of the interview. If you are bale to crack that, then things will be really smooth. Really concentrate on your fundamentals, especially analysis and design.

      Technical Interview

      Interview Questions
        Interview Experience
The interviewer was not very aware of my field of interest, and so I was not asked in detail about my projects. He just asked me to describe the major projects and I ensured that I use a language that could be easily understood by a person who does not belong to that research area so that I keep him involved in my description. He then asked 1-2 programming questions. When I could not answer one of the questions, he asked me to think aloud and then helped me in finding the
        solution.
Later, he asked questions that were supposed to check my attitude towards my jobs and commitments. A few questions were about my plans for future. Overall, I could make out that he was looking for a genuinely interested candidate who’d join IBM.

          General Tips
          Preparation:

          1. Attend PPTs to understand what kinds of jobs are being offered, and what the company expects. Focus on those points during preparation/interview. Also, a little browsing on the net about the company would make you more comfortable during the interview.

          2. Figure out the courses that will be relevant to the profile and prepare them well. For most of the courses, the frequently asked questions are available on the internet. Practice them.

          3. Prepare answers of expected question beforehand. Don’t just recall the points but put them into words. Especially, you must be well aware of the projects that you have done. Prepare them well.

          4. Have mock interview sessions with your friends/wing mates before the placement season and pay attention to their feedbacks. Do this with your close friends who can criticize you without hesitation. This is the best way to know your strengths, drawbacks.

          5. For CSE specific companies, even if you are good at coding on the machine, do write a few snippets of code on paper. Coding on machine is much easier than on paper. You will often feel that you need to ‘cut’ and ‘insert’ lines :P

          6. For puzzles preparation, a lot of puzzles, and their solutions, are available on the net.

          The Interview:

          1. Be confident

You might not have very high CPI or be one of the extra ordinary chaps on campus but you still are good enough to get selected. So, be confident. Even if, during the interview, you start feeling that you have not done well so far, don’t panic. You never know what the interviewers want to test. Just stay calm and try to do your best. Know your strengths and focus on them during the interview.

          2. Try to find answers of difficult questions

If you feel that you don’t have the solution of a given question/puzzle, don’t just be silent. Let them know your thought process. The interviewers often understand that the question they asked was a difficult one and in that case they want to know your approach and might even help you where you get stuck.

          3. Show them you are eager to learn things that you don’t know.

If you do not know something and you think that you will not be able to find out the answer on the spot then describe your approach and tell the interviewer frankly that you don’t know the exact answer. They obviously don’t expect you to know all the things in the world. But, at the same time, make an impression that you are eager to learn new things.

          4. Be passionate

Show them that you are passionate about all the tasks (projects/extra-curriculars etc) you have done till now. Tell them what you have learnt from the tasks you took up and how did they benefit you. This shows that you are a person who would do his/her job with great interest and commitment.

          5. Ask questions

Don’t hesitate to ask questions about the job/company. This would show that you are really interested in the job being offered.

          6. Be yourself

Do not try to fake in an interview. The interviewers are smart enough to know when you are lying or cheating. Nobody is perfect, so accept your weaknesses and know how to improve upon them.

Practicing quant, puzzle solving and GD from early in the semester would definitely help

sec1 was a bit lengthy. sec2 was very easy sec3 had quantitative questions based on time and distance, time and work,%,avg, boat stream, profit and loss.Sections 2 and 3 had negative markingIn written test they selected 51 out of 70.
                              Interview Tips
Try to read any one matrix properly and answer all questions of that matrix. Don't try to ans all matrix questions. It takes time. But if u ans 2 matrix questions (2*5=10qsns) correctly,it is more then enough.Solve RS agarwal number series questions (chapter odd man out and number series from RS Agarwal). One imp thing is that all aptitude questions were from previous years papers of IBM, which can be found on the internet. Go through them.

After written test, they divided the people into groups (13ppl*4group=52) and send them to GD. After giving the topic, HR went out of the room so as to give time for us to think about the topic. He gave five minutes.GD went for about 10miutes .Everyone had to conclude the GD, i.e., they gave everyone a chance. After GD, they selected 41 out of 51.

The panel members were friendly. They asked only basics of c,c++,java, data structure(link list, stack, queue, tree), project, internship,os,dbms ,sql etc, difference between c++ and java,c++ features, why java is suitable for internet application, why java is better then c++,how to avoid multiple inheritance, memory functions like malloc, calloc, alloc, faralloc, realloc, write a code which shows all features of c++,some dbms questions etcAll questions were basics only.
                                Interview Tips
It is better for computer students to go a bit deeper into their subjects... but for others, it is better to have an overview of basics of programming languages andtheir subjects.Whatever you answer,  answer perfectly and confidently.

There was a section on data interpretation which was for 15 minutes or so and was only to test how fast you could grasp a new thing. Then there was a section on number series which was fairly simple followed by one on quantitative maths. All of these were part of the first round of written test out of which around 100 people were shortlisted.

The second round was technical with 2 sections, the first one being basically for-loops and flowcharts. Questions were time consuming and there was always a shorter method. Second section involved concepts of networking and operating system. After this round 38 people were shortlisted for interview.

                                        Interview Experience
This interview mostly consisted of operating systems, data structure and C.He first took a brief intro and after that asked me the subject which i was best at. I would advice you to say anything except operating system because I made that mistake and he went so deep that the only thing i could do was comprehend the question because solving it was way beyond me (the question was involving system threads). Anyways i could still answer some of the questions in operating system like how to generate file descriptors in the best possible manner, then an output of a code was asked which involved concepts of heap, stack and pointers. Then he moved to data structure where he asked one question regarding nearest neighbours and we had a lengthy discussion on this one.
I had a really nice experience especially the interview because it was more of a discussion rather then then question and answers. The person who took my interview later told me that he himself did not know the answer to the question and what he was interested in was my approach. The interview lasted for 2 hours and besides being exhausting it was fun too.
                                        Interview Tips
I would just like to advice that these people are not looking for answers but the ; path you choose, basically your approach. So whatever you think, speak aloud and let them know your approach; that's because if your thinking on thewrong lines,  they will correct you and hint towards the right one. So make use of them,

                                            There were three sections
1.Manipulation of matrices 15 question (No negative marks,3 parts in this section)

I had written the same paper (model) for IBM internship, but fared very badly in that, so was cautious this time.

                                              2. I had said that i was interested in coding, and they asked an example, i explained it confidently.. this was the only tough program i attempted on my own,so I explained the algorithm.
                                              3. He asked about my family details and my experience in NITW.

Then he said ok, I think he was convinced..
He then asked me about my strengths and weaknesses..
