General Tips
Write resume professionally, get it reviewed by someone.Do not write something on your resume which is not right as because of it you might not be able to stay calm and this can affect your interview.

In a GD no need to speak much just put nice points and portray a nice body language.

Finally just be yourself don't try to fake a different personality as that would just take away from your confidence.

Resume Shortlist Group Discussion Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
Initial shortlisting was done on the basis of resume.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Interview Experience
There was a group discussion based on the general pattern.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
My subjects, knowledge, skills were tested very less compared to the others. It all depends on the direction you wanted to drive your interview in. I focused on my projects and junkyard wars to show my technical skills and
immediately steered into the profile they were offering which is managerial profile which included sales, marketing and operation together. Having prepared for other FMCG companies earlier, I spoke about operation with ease and this was my selling point. I brushed up on marketing and spoke about sustainability and green technology campaigns the company was working on.
Round 4

HR Interview

Interview Experience
There was no specific HR round. Few questions about the place I live, languages , etc.
Interview Tips
They were looking for people with an all-round personality. They let me drive the interview in the direction I wanted. It was more of a conversation than a question-answer session for me
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
I prepared mainly by aiming at FMCG companies. Industrial engineering brush up. Projects/Interns/HR questions are very important. You never know when a core ques turns up, so brushed up courses.

I think I got selected because I spoke at length on how I was perfectly suited for the profile they were offering. I showed examples for each of operations, sales and marketing. Enthusiasm about the company, knowing more about the company and its activities helped me. I put fight for FMCG's and core companies mostly. I was thorough with Industrial Engineering minor. I knew in and out about what was written in the resume. Brushing up core courses is a must.
General Tips
I started in August. I was preparing for CAT in parallel too. Start core prep early because there is very little time towards the end. Do not prepare for every company that exists. Prioritize the companies depending on your interests. Prepare well for these companies.

Round 1

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
 • Question 1: PID control system specifics to control flow rate and temperature of milk in the factory?
 • Question 2: Difference in SI and CI Engine
 • Question 3: Bearing material and the reason for such an use
Interview Experience
The interview consisted of technical questions pertaining to subjects mentioned in the resume which added that extra element of comfort.
This was followed by an industrial problem which was open to numerous solutions and the only thing that probably mattered was the direction and quality of the design implementation. All in all it was an exciting experience with questions being fired from both sides.
Interview Tips
This is a tip not just for technical but also for the HR round. Your resume consists of the highlights of your student life so ensure that you drive your interview towards your resume points so that you can quickly pick that up as an example. This will ensure that you leave a mark, having communicated your strength verbally, because you can do much more to elaborate on the significance of your achievements in the interview than you can in a one line description on your resume.

Interview Tips
Be true in the answers and stick to the word limit.
Round 2

GROUP DISCUSSION

Interview Experience
Students are shortlisted on the basis of form (HUL doesn’t ask for resumes). Then, GDs are conducted in a group of 8-10. The topics are like case-studies which highlight some problem being faced by an organization and you need to come up with some solution for the same.
Round 3

TECHNICAL + HR INTERVIEW

Interview Experience
Students are further shortlisted after the GD for final interview. One should be thorough with his resume and should be in a position to explain the internships well. I encountered a lot of situation based questions in which I was asked to come up with solution for some typical problems faced in a factory.

Do’s :

1. Work well on communication skills. It happens a lot that students have a lot of knowledge but couldn’t communicate well. So, do mock interviews and make sure you are able to explain what you know.

2. Have a knowledge about the company you are applying to. This reflects your motivation and seriousness towards the company.

Don’ts :

1. Resume, aptitude and GD should be done with good time in hand as they can’t be improved over night.

Apart from the standard things, I would advise that confidence and smile goes a long way.

Preparation of resume, aptitude, GDs, technical part is very important but I believe that at the end, communicating yourself well is the most important thing.

HUL International consulting interview

I Applied for job through Personal Contacts for International consulting role at HUL
Interview Process
Case Study Interview
Round 1

Case Study Interview

Interview Questions
 • Question 1: How can you reduce cost of an ice-cream factory based in Russia?
 • Question 2: How can you convince big bazar to increase your product’s shelf space?
 • Question 3: Questions around supply chain –variation in distribution, discount etc. (Note: If you haven’t taken LSCM, do take the notes from your friend and understand the key concepts –an overview should be good enough)
 • Question 4: How can you reduce thecost of production without changing the variable cost?
Interview Experience
I had a good time with Interviewers. They put you at ease while talking to you and help you at times (not always!). Like any other interview, just stay calm and think of all possible answers to questions asked.
Interview Tips
Don’t fret about any particular answer but focus on your structure –the way you think and the way you present your answers to the interviewer. For ice cream factory one could think of VC, FC which include utilities, packaging, inventory, inbound/outbound etc. The interviewer at times provides more information in between answers to guide you(but don’t wait for it).Shelf space and LSCM concepts revolve around what causes variation in supply chain, incentive management and factory location/management [ If you know your LSCM well you’ll sail through such questions.
