Round 1

Test

Duration
60+30 Minutes
No. of Questions
60+30 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Aptitude (20 each from quantitative aptitude, verbal ability and analytical aptitude, 60 minutes)
  • Section 2: Technical (30 questions, 30 minutes); both the sections had individual cut offs
Interview Experience
I never felt very confident about the technical questions of the written round. But the assuring fact was no one did. And usually cut off of the technical section comes to are relatively lower mark which is achievable. So I focused more on the quantitative sections which this time bore 2/3rd of the total marks in the written test. Out of 30 technical questions you should be able to do at least 10.
Interview Tips
But one important round after written test, the “psychometric test” that is oftencalled a non-eliminative round, is actually a silent killer I felt. Psychometric test assertsthe personality of a student. And in my interview panel one panellist was speciallydedicated for this. He would not ask you any question but silently judge you throughoutthe interview and compare your behaviour with your psychometric test results. If theyfind the test results mismatching with how you portray yourself during the interview theywould simply dis-select you. So it is important to appear this seemingly unimportant and boring test very sincerely and honestly.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
10 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Should Cricket be our National Sports instead of Hockey?
Interview Experience
Almost all who appeared the written test were short listed for the GD round. Clarity of points, ability to direct the group, and fluency - these wee the key to clear the GD. Out of 10 people, 3 got shortlisted.
Interview Tips
In a small group, I along with few other friends of mine, were practicing GD in the hostel. We practiced in several hypothetical situations by virtually creating them in my room, for example speaking against your natural inclination towards speaking in favour of a topic or taking the job of moderating the GD trying to point out the flaws of the rest of the group in the end or making a shy person initiate the GD. And those sessions really helped us. In fact another friend who was also a part of our GD group, got placed in Hero MotoCorp as well.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
    Interview Experience
Actually it was more of a combined Technical + HR interview. Interview mostly based on my internship experience. Literally they went on to ask about every tiny detail about my summer training experience at Maruti Suzuki. It included HR questions like how one should handle the workers, work schedule management, following of company ethics, deadline management etc. So take your internship very very seriously from day 1. IC engine is also an essential study for Hero MotoCorp. Since they ask you to bring your CV to the interview, one must spend some good time preparing his/her CV.
    Interview Tips
Try to relate your co-curricular activities and involvement with the HR questions asked. Be honest, frank and confident. Contact students from other colleges who already got placed in the same company in the recent past and know about their interview experience. That comes handy at times.

    • Communication skills
    • Body Language
    • Expressiveness
    • Leadership quality
    • Psychometric Test
    Skill Tips
Apart from your technical skills and mathematical ability to clear the written round, all the above are also highly essential to clear the further rounds. And yes, your attentiveness in the pre-placement talk is also being taken into account. They ask some general questions in the end of the talk and try to answer one of them. It creates a good impression. Read a lot about the company; its history, its latest models, its inception, technologies it uses, founders etc.
    Resources

    Preparation materials

    Books
    • V. Ganeshan for IC Engines,
    • Any general book for MOS,
    • Primary Production Processes etc.,
    Videos
    • Engineering Explained videos,
    • automobile engineering videos from YouTube,
    General Tips
My strongest points for the interview were my internship experiences at Maruti Suzuki, Gurgaon and Ingersoll Rand, Ahmedabad in 2nd and 3rd year summers respectively. I had used my training period in the best possible way to understand the technical as well as non-technical aspects of the functioning of their production segment. And to my surprise, the interviewers even went on asking questions like the practicalities of human resource management that I experienced during my training. Apart from that I ensured that I was thorough with at least two of core subjects, a sound knowledge of automobile engineering. For the HR interview I had prepared many typical HR questions with answers much prior to any interview I had faced.
    Motivation for applying
I would say, “Never do a training just for a certificate.” Take your internships very seriously. Learn as much as possible. What technical project you do during the training is important, of course. But what you learn and gain during that period has got its own significance. Don’t waste any summer. Do not let your CGPA fall below 7.5 under any circumstances. And from behavioral point of view, your body language, speaking ability, expressions are all very important. Prepare for them from now on. If you find excuses, as why a mechanical core company looks for these soft skills, just know that someone who does not will get that job. Make group discussions a habit. Stay updated with the current affairs. Read newspaper every day at least for 10-15 minutes and make notes of them. Make yourself employable from the targeted company’s perspective. Preparation needs smart studies. One just can’t go on reading every page of a book. And knowing exactly which areas to emphasize on, for which company, is a real challenge. And your perseverance will be your source of confidence during the interview. You have to deserve it.

    Round 1

    Test

    Duration
    90 Minutes
    No. of Questions
    90 questions
    Test Sections
    • Section 1: quantitative aptitude (20 questions)
    • Section 2: logical reasoning(20 questions)
    • Section 3: english(20 questions)
    • Section 4: technical(30 questions)
    Interview Experience
The test consisted of 60 questions for first section and 60 minutes, and 30 technical questions in 30 minutes. They almost asked questions from everything we study. You should have just basics to answer those questions; special preparation can barely help you. Over all the paper was not easy, not tough type.
    Interview Tips
prepare english finding errors  and reordering questions and focus on time and work and number system in aptitude. they asked technical questions on almost every section but mainly from  thermodynamics , fluid and refrigeration and air conditioning and machine design.prepare these topics well.
    Round 2

    Group Discussion

    Group Discussion Topic
Commercialization of health care : Good or Bad ?
    Interview Experience
There was a panel of 4 Hr's , they all sitting in front of us and after giving the topic they give us a minute to think and then start. we started the discussion but they are not satisfied and in between they said from one student tell the meaning of commercialization , and then we continued at the end they themselves said to one student to conclude the topic , that student did not speak in the group discussion .
    Interview Tips
according to me to clear the GD you have to remembered himself to the Hr's so you have to speak a logical points and in continuous intervals , first you should try to initiate the GD , and if you are unable to start then pic up very early , and then at least speak once in between and necessary to speak in last minutes of GD. don't one to one and try to make eye contact with everyone and sometimes slowly nodding of head on others points also helpful when you are not getting chance to speak.
    Round 3

    Technical Interview

    Interview Questions
    • Question 1: introduce yourself as a mechanical engineer.
    • Question 2: why diesel bike is not yet launched in india.
    • Question 3: how you make sphere using machining process.
    • Question 4: what is the factor of safety in designing of ropes , gears , and belt drives.
    • Question 5: generally how much cc bikes launched in india.
    • Question 6: why mostly bikes are single cylinders.
    Interview Experience
There was only one interview(Tech+HR) with a panel of four members. First thing I’ve got to say about my interview is that it is the best interview I’ve ever had they first asked me introduce yourself as a mechanical engineer .and I was so lucky on that day immediately they asked me my favorite subjects. I said Thermodynamics, i c engine and automobile engineering. then they start qustions from IC engines and they came to manufacturing processes and then they asked questions from machine design and rest of the questions from my resume they asked almost every point from my resume about my training many questions asked from my training and projects that i have done . and they asked some real life situations that can occur in companies like strike and other and asked me for give your decision at that situation and how you convince to employees , so they asked questions almost each subject and HR question too, they can ask anything from what we learn. I advise you to be good at all the fundamentals. Luckily I answered all the questions they asked me except one .I think the process is very fair. Exam was not difficult but can test your depth of knowledge. And my interview was very good. I was so lucky on that day, as I mentioned earlier. The overall process was good and I feel very proud to get in to HERO MOTOCORP ..
    Interview Tips
My first suggestion is always keep in touch with our subjects. Because when you go to an interview, they can ask anything. Simply preparing before placements will not help you. You need to have in depth knowledge about the basic fundamentals of everything you study. Most importantly Manufacturing Technology, Automobile Engineering and Machine Design.Learn speaking fluently in English. At times it matters a lot.One more noble suggestion is don’t create bad impression about yourself or the college. Maintain punctuality, be disciplined and etc. Each time you commit an offense the number of candidates they are going to recruit will decrease.

    No. of Questions
    60+30 questions
    Test Sections
    • Section 1: Aptitude
    • Section 2: Technical
    Interview Experience
It was a good test overall. The Aptitude test consist of 20 questions of each Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability & Critical Reasoning, a total of 60 questions in 60 minutes. The Technical test consist of 30 questions in 30 minutes almost from all the topics. As I was from Industrial Engineering & Management Stream I faced some difficulties in solving the questions as the core mechanical subject are not to us in details at our college. Mostly the questions were from Machine Design(Shafts, Rivets, Keys) Strength of Materials (Bending Stresses in Beams, Columns & Struts), Heat Transfer, Production Technology, Material Science and IC Engines.
    Interview Tips
For Aptitude Tests, do regular practice of all the online questions on Ambition Box itself or indiabix.com or lofoya.com (best). The technical questions are based on your past 4 years of study. You must know the subjects in detail. And If you are from Industrial or Production Engineering, you have to cover almost all the core subjects of mechanical engineering.
    Round 2

    Problem Statement

    Interview Experience
It was a group discussion and this problem was given to a group of 9 persons. They gave some time to read the problem and after that we have to discuss among ourselves that what should be the best alternative. My friend started the discussion and after that I followed and takes the discussion forward. But after sometimes, the atmosphere heated up and everyone started ranting and no one was able to speak during that. Then in the last everyone was asked to write the best solutions in one line on the paper and the papers were exchanged and the solutions were interpreted by the panelists. The Overall experience was good as I was able to speak up my points in the starting and I got selected through.
    Interview Tips
Please let everyone speak in the discussion round. It's not like that whosoever speaks first gets selected. Everyone got the chance to speak in the end by the panelists. So don't panic and wait for your chance to speak and speak with confidence.

    Interview Experience
Round 2 consisted of a GD alone. Our topic was “Smart cities is just a dream or could be a reality.” They were thoroughly judging the candidates in this round as the same HRs were taking PIs too. I would suggest to behave well and maintain the decorum of a GD. Most of my batch mates were shouting and none of them was listening, so I took control and urged them to speak serial wise. Then I gave some valid points supporting the future reality of smart cities.
    Interview Tips
Reading newspaper is a must. then watch videos on how to behave in a GD. Speak valid points and let other people speak.
    Round 3

    Technical Interview

      Interview Experience
Only one interview was held, which consisted both technical and a bit of HR. I was mainly asked about automobiles and their parts since I had mentioned about my project (Fabricated a Student F1 car) in my cv. Most of the questions were from my cv(about catia). Later the completely shifted to the management side and gave me situations of which I had to suggest solutions. For eg. I was asked what would I do being in charge of operations dept., If the workers under me refused to work siting poor raw material as reason.
I said, I’ll try to convince the workers to continue production, and will report the case of poor raw material to respective departments. In case they don’t take any action, I’ll report the issue to higher authorities.
      Interview Tips

For the HR interview I had prepared many typical HR questions with answers much prior to any interview I had faced.
      Interview Tips
First was Bajaj Auto company who came for placements for which I was not prepared at all. The placement season had just started. When you do not work hard so as to deserve something you want, I believe it takes a toll on your self confidence. So one should better have in mind which companies he/she would want to get placed in and work accordingly well in advance. Second was Mu Sigma, coincidentally on the same day as Bajaj. I was eliminated on the problem solving round. I don’t exactly know the reasons as I have seen people having the same questions and same answers (same rough work as well :-D ) having cleared that round. So I think luck also plays a role and not everything is meant to go your way all the time.
      Skills

      Skills Tested

        General Tips
One was that I was not particularly unwilling to join a non-core company in the beginning but gradually with my preparations, my orientation changed towards joining an automobile company. Further, having the knowledge that there might be a couple of auto makers in the pipeline this season, also helped me focus on a few specific core subjects of my branch. Preparation needs smart studies. One just can’t go on reading every page of a book. And knowing exactly which areas to emphasize on, for which company, is a real challenge.
        Motivation for applying
I am very much satisfied with the company I am placed in. It would be a dream for anyone in my position willing to join core sector, to be a part of the world’s largest two wheeler manufacturing establishment. It is just that I had actually targeted Maruti Suzuki from the beginning of the year and even I was shortlisted after its written round. Their further rounds were yet to commence but in the meantime Hero MotoCorp came for placements and I cleared it.

        Duration
        20 Minutes
        Group Discussion Topic
Is india ready to face disasters
        Interview Experience
They clearly specified that they were looking for analytical ability to asses the situation and the way one leads/mingles with the group. They gave clear cut instructions viz; not to make it a fish market, try and analyze the topic well. Once the GD got concluded they said that they expected the discussion to touch the technical aspects more(the discussion revolved more around the political aspects)
        Interview Tips
For Duals & M.Techs (PGET profile) Everybody could sit for the GD directly
        Round 2

        personality assessment

        Interview Experience
After the GD for the people who cleared it there was a Personality assessment test but it was not an elimination round. They gave a set of 50 words and asked to select the most appropriate words(qualities) that you want to see in others. And the same set of words were given again and asked to tick the qualities I possessed.
        Round 3

        Interview

        Interview Questions
          Interview Experience
          Technical and HR interview.

          20 min

For GET (b.tech) profile they were asking questions from SOM, IC engines etc; especially number (say the Ultimate tensile strength of mild steel) for PGET it was more about the Project, I have my DDP in IC engines so it was more about my project. I haven't done much work for DDp but i had to sell myself, so the night before interview i read a few research papers and got more clear about my project (I got feedback from Mtechs that the interview is gonna be about project). I explained the Tech guy about my DDP he asked a few questions about it. Again numbers are important, he asked what is the typical value of ignition delay, Define ignition delay for CI/SI engine. etc.
          Interview Tips
The interview was a mix of HR + tech which let you enough time to get comfortable, if you were fumbling in Tech, HT would step in with a question and vice-verse. For PGET they were looking for relevant projects or internship experience. I made sure that i mastered turbo machines and IC engines, the most asked thermal courses. Mantech and design courses i read initial few days of placements. But if you have proper material you can finish 2-3 courses per day.
          Round 4

          Interview Experience
The most important thing is the resume. During the initial few interviews I was being asked questions in courses and irrelevant stuff anything but DDP .
          Interview Tips
For core may be a xerox copy of hand written notes of each batch can be placed at guru.

Gen Cat prep would do, the tests were more or less CAT type. even most of the core companies asked cat type questions. So, a decent prep for CAT can earn you a good job.
          Skills

          Skills Tested

            General Tips
I failed in 3 interviews before Hero, so a deep introspection into the mistakes made helped a lot and for every interview I saw the previous years feedback I had no feedback for Hero so I searched for PGET hero Motocorp on a few social network sites and got help from seniors. Glassdoor feedback also helped. A start at an interview was really important, so i worked a lot on my HT answers as well as TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF. I framed my answers in a way the interviewer expects them to be.

DDp in relevant ffield, presence of mind, sense of humor, keeping things relevant even in GD. I just did the same that might have worked, and gen pseud I put like i have enthu in Automobiles and a bit of honesty helped, but it is important that you strike the right balance.

Initial shortlisting was completely based on GD and in interview if your project/intern is relevant the chances are more likely that you can get through.

I didn't throw away the hand written notes/xerox copies of core courses. Reading through them saves a lot of effort and time. I finished a major chunk of the thermal courses in the last week before placements and the first few days of the placements and gone through Mantech and Dom dome kdon etc. But you have to master a few courses and I Mastered Turbomachines, Man-tech and IC engines( these 3 were important for most of the companies ; dont neglect turbo)

              Mostly on CGPA.

              Duration

              Test Sections
                Interview Experience
Duals & M.Techs (PGET profile) could sit for the GD directly.
Written test based on Core and Quant.
                Round 3

                Group Discussion

                Interview Experience
They clearly specified that they were looking for analytical ability to assess the situation and the way one leads/mingles with the group
They select people who made some sensible arguments. Also, for managerial profiles, one should be able to direct the discussion without actually commanding it
Logical points, teamwork, quality, and fluency of speaking are qualities looked for
After the GD (for people who clear it), there might be a personality assessment test, but it was not an elimination round. They give a set of 50 words and ask to select the most appropriate words that you want to see in others. And the same set of words are given again and you have to select which of them are relevant to you
                Interview Tips
You need not speak throughout the GD. You should make certain good points and complement others points. Giving examples to substantiate your point helps.
                Round 4

                Interview

                Interview Questions
                  Interview Experience
Be ready for questions from Strength of Materials, IC engines, etc. ; especially numbers( say the Ultimate tensile strength of mild steel); for PGET it's more about the project.
Projects, future aspirations in the company, basic questions on automobiles are common topics discussed in interviews.
Again numbers are important, questions like, what the typical value of ignition delay is, defining ignition delay for CI/SI engine are common.
Some questions on IC Engines. Mostly the questions are on the projects and internships.
                  Interview Tips
Try and drive the interview if you can, based on your prior experience in the industry or projects, and don't lose your cool if the interviewers retaliate. Stay confident with your knowledge throughout.
                  Round 5

                  Interview

                  Interview Questions
                    Interview Experience
Be ready with answers to standard HR questions. The interview is a mix of HR + Tech which gives you enough time to get comfortable, If you were fumbling in tech, HR would step in with a question and vice versa.
                    Resources

                    Preparation materials

                    Courses
                    • Manufacturing Technology,
                    • Turbo Machines,
                    • IC Engines,
                    • DOME,
                    • SOM,
                    • KDOMS,
                    • Heat Transfer,
                    General Tips
The start of an interview is really important, so work on your HR answers as well as the 'tell me about yourself'. Frame your answers in a way the interviewer expects them to be.

Revise my core fundaes. Prepared about my internships and projects.

DDP in relevant field helps, presence of mind, sense of humor, keeping things relevant even in GD, are important aspects.

Reading through handwritten notes of core courses saves a lot of effort and time. You have to master a few courses like Turbo machines, Mfg. Tech and IC Engines(these 3 are important for most of the companies; don't neglect turbo).

DOME; SOM; KDOMS; Heat transfer are important topics.

Be thorough with your resume and also the important core courses. Having mock GDs and interviews will help a lot.

The most important thing is the resume. So please get your resume checked multiple times by multiple people; even the best people can‟t find faults at times, then check it yourself and know your resume inside out.

I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Kharagpur for Get role at Hero MotoCorp
                    Interview Process
                    Group Discussion Psychometric Test Interview
                    Round 1

                    Group Discussion

                    Interview Experience
Topics were based on current affairs. No specific preparation required. We were given a sheet of paper on which adjectives were written on both sides. On one side, we were asked to tick the adjectives which described us according to our friends. On the other side we had to tick the adjectives which we thought best described us. I have appeared in about 10 GDs so far (during UG and PG placements), and I was not rejected in any one of them. The thing which was common in all the GDs was that I initiated in most of them and during the GD, I wrote down the points spoken by each member on paper and during the conclusion I spoke about each and everyone’s point. This gave me an edge over all others.
                    Interview Tips
Try to initiate the GD if possible. But if you are not able to do so, try to atleast conclude it. Based on my GD experience, the points you make are not very important. The only important thing is that you must “SPEAK”. These HR guys from core companies don’t know exactly how to conduct a GD. I have seen people clearing GD round only by shouting and making irrelevant points. A GD for an IIM is totally a different game but for core companies only speaking in a GD is enough.
                    Round 2

                    Psychometric Test

                    Interview Experience
This was not an elimination round.
                    Interview Tips
Mark as many adjectives as possible but be honest at the same time. Based on the adjectives I marked. I was asked to give some specific real life examples for proving the same in the interview. As I had been honest in marking the adjectives, this was a piece of cake for me.
                    Round 3

                    Interview

                    Interview Questions
                      Interview Experience
The R&D head, HR head and a representative of Law department took my interview. The Law Representative did not ask any questions. About half of the total questions were asked by the R&D head. He stressed only on the MTech project. The HR head asked questions based on the psychometric test. She asked to give me real life examples and explanations for the adjectives that I had marked. Based on my CV, questions were asked by both R&D and HR head. As I already knew about the requirements through my seniors in the company, I was able to shape my project according to their needs.
                      Interview Tips
It is advisable to talk to any of the seniors in the firm beforehand to get an idea of the type of requirements in the company and prepare for the interview accordingly. You must be very well prepared with your MTech. project and you must know exactly what you are going to do. Speak about your project according to the requirement of the company even if it is very remotely related to the work of the company.

                        Skill Tips
Just 60% in class 10th, 12th and graduation is enough for getting shortlisted for the company. There is no requirement of any extraordinary profile. Based on my profile and interview experience, I believe at least one CAD software and knowledge of Finite Element Method is required for R&D job in Design Engineering in any automobile sector company. For aptitude test of any company, only basic R S Aggarwal book is enough. For technical test by core companies, a sound knowledge is required which cannot be achieved by overnight preparation. The technical questions are quite easy but the number of questions is very large compared to time given.

                        Commercialisation of health care
                        Interview Experience
Almost the entire group went off topic confusing commercialisation with privatisation. Inspite of HR manager's intervention regarding misinterpretation , group continued with privatisation.
                        Interview Tips
Technical firms are not expecting high level of GD & communication skills (except when the profile demands so) . You are expected to atleast be able to keep your view point with some logical support.
If you are able to raise 2-3 points in a polite way , you are highly likely to be selected.
If the GD you are appearing is for a profile like marketing , sales or where end to end interaction matters much , u need to be highly skillfull at your communication.
