Interview Process
Group Discussion Guesstimate Interview Case Study Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
15-20 Minutes
Interview Experience
Each and every one was given sufficient time to express their opinions but since there are more than 100 guys you are competing with, do try to make an impression somewhere on the mind of the recruiter.
Interview Tips
Nothing specifically, similar to the cliche GDs that all the other firms take but the only point to be kept in mind in case of Flipkart is, from the list of 120 odd people it is gonna come down to 50. So, try to keep that in mind.
Round 2

Guesstimate Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Demand of TVs next year? Specify one 'good' and one 'bad' approach.
Interview Experience
It was pretty chilled out, since they will try to help you all along. Difficulty level was okayish, nothing to be afraid of. Slight CV grilling and basic HR questions too were covered in this round. No monsters there.
Interview Tips
Make use of the paper they give you. try to be as graphically illustrative as possible. Think out loud. Make them move along with you, hence if you get stuck up they will be able to help you instantly, saving you some time. Also, this will keep them involved and interested in you.
Round 3

Case Study Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: What would you suggest Kishore Biyani against us (Flipkart) to stay in competition?
Interview Experience
I took a moment to jot down some points, no one in the the panel seemed to complain(I guess :P). I suggest 5-6 possible strategies and elaborated specifically. Not much counter questioning( Maybe they liked the answer or maybe the question was a meager formality :P)
Interview Tips
Again, nothing to be afraid of. Not the consultancy type cases where framework building and segmentation is necessary. Here they will try to judge your business acumen rather than your 'Case In Point' MuggPower.

Flipkart MANAGEMENT TRAINEE interview

Application
I was interviewed on-campus for MANAGEMENT TRAINEE role at Flipkart
Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Test HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
The resume should not exceed two pages according to placement norms so I had to make sure that I write down all my extra-curricular and my academic achievements in a compact manner to ensure that all of them fit in my resume. There were 11 extra-curricular activities that I managed to pen down. I used only one resume for all the companies and only changed my areas of interest to make them compatible with the profile on offer. I also mentioned about my projects and internships.
Interview Tips
A person may have diverse areas of interest but he has to ensure that not all should be mentioned in any company. Only a select few areas of interest, which are simpatico with the profile, have to be mentioned in the resume. You cannot mention structural engineering as an area of interest while applying in a company like Oracle.
Round 2

Test

Interview Experience
The first round in Flipkart was the written test. It was similar to the CAT exam. There were sections like logical reasoning, verbal reasoning among others. There was another section in which we were given a series of statements and we had to identify the statement that was not in logic. This was a difficult section.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Question 2: Why do you want to join the company?
  • Question 3: What kind of work is the company involved in?
Interview Experience
I prepared for interviews only by asking some of my friends. Some of my friends had already appeared for interviews in certain companies during the recruitment season; it is from them that I learnt the kind of HR questions that are generally asked in interviews.I prepared sample answers to some of these questions.
For technical questions there were no such specific preparations, I ensured that I had all the basic concepts of civil engineering in mind before appearing for the interviews.
Motivation for applying
Flipkart is an e-commerce giant in India and everybody knows about it. They were recruiting us for the post of Management Trainee. They required people with dynamic personality, good communication skills and those who were good in extracurricular activities as well as in academics. The profile required people to talk to vendors and manage warehouses and hence they required such a diverse background from the student.

Interview Tips
1. Use moments of pause to deliver your ideas
2. It’s good to start the discussion and frame it, but it is not essential
3. Always put points, Flipkart doesn’t asks random topics so speaking absurd ideas will not be beneficial for you.
4. Always take note of what others are telling, they’ll ask you to conclude

Flipkart MANAGEMENT TRAINEE interview

Application
I was interviewed on-campus for MANAGEMENT TRAINEE role at Flipkart
Interview Process
Resume Shortlist Test HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
While applying to core companies I focused more on my projects and internships and on the other hand while applying to non-core companies I went through the company’s annual report and tried to analyse the kind of work the company was involved in and also the vision the company held and tried to arrive at a common ground keeping in mind the vision of the company and my interest while framing the resume.
Round 2

Test

Interview Experience
Since I did not prepare for CAT it was slightly difficult for me to clear the written tests. I borrowed some books from my friends and practiced them thoroughly well. The tests are pretty simple which I realized later after giving these tests. The tests require basic mathematics knowledge and some speed. A person having prepared for CAT should have no problems in dealing with these tests.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
The interviewer was a graduate from IIT Delhi in civil engineering. He asked me some basic questions and told me exactly how Flipkart operates. He asked me to talk about myself. Then he inquired about my 3rd year internship, which I had done in IIT Delhi in the civil engineering department. I told him about the kind of work I did in my internship.
Next he asked me to state the reason for the switch from civil arena to software arena in spite of having done a number of projects and internships in civil sector. Further he asked me a few basic questions related to civil engineering like ‘Which is the largest column built in India till date’.
Lastly he asked me that if offered posting in Bangalore or further south which would I prefer. To this I replied saying that I would prefer a posting somewhere in north India. I believe that this is the primary reason why I squandered my chances of getting recruited in the company.
The company eventually recruited 7 candidates.
Interview Tips
If you are a civil engineer you should have good knowledge about structural engineering because generally each and every company would ask technical questions to a civil engineer from this topic.
Motivation for applying
Flipkart came for placements for the very first time. I had applied for the Management Trainee profile. They were looking for people who had dynamic profile and those who had good communications skills.

Resume Shortlist Test HR Interview
Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
I prepared resume keeping in mind the areas of interest that would suit the company’s requirements. The companies that recruit students from all departments usually tend to prefer students having interests in general management/economics related subjects. I knew about this and while applying to non-core companies I specified my areas of interest as these subjects.
Round 2

Test

No. of Questions
120 questions
Interview Experience
The first round in Flipkart was the written test. In the test there were about 120 questions asked. The paper was similar to the CAT paper. The paper comprised of reading comprehension, verbal ability, maths, quantitative aptitude and data interpretation. The questions were pretty simple, however the time constraint proved to be a problem. I qualified for the next round.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me about yourself.
  • Question 2: What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Question 3: How are you working in order to improve upon your weaknesses?
Interview Experience
This interview was the HR interview. The company had arrived in the campus on the 2nd or the 3rd day of the recruitment season hence I was not at all prepared for the interview. Whatever answers that I gave during the interviews were all spontaneous. The interviewer soon realized that I had come unprepared for the interview and ended the interview very soon. I did not get selected but I got a feel of the kind of questions asked in these interviews.
Motivation for applying
Flipkart came for placements for the very first time. I had applied for the Management Trainee profile. They were looking for people who had dynamic personality, good communication skills and a good overall profile. I had attended the PPT (pre-placement talk) held by the company and that is where I gained knowledge about the company’s profile.

Since I was preparing for Cat 2015, My quant aptitude speed was above average. This helped me in cracking the test.
Interview Tips
Do prepare for Cat. Even though one is not seriously considering it, it would help in cruising through the aptitude tests during placement.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
10 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
India vs Hindustan
Interview Experience
During my GD, I came up with a few points, but they were too mainstream and nothing which would make the instructor notice me.I remember one boy stated that if India changes to Hindustan, We would be kept in the league of terrorism Stricken nations like Afganistan, Pakistan.I immediately Countered that such thinking is shown by narrow minded people, whose opinions shouldnt matter to us in first place.I guess that was a winning stroke for me. There were 10 guys, out of which 4 were selected for the next round.
Interview Tips
Flipkart was quite known for taking GD on random topics, Like Blue vs Black, Joker vs Batman.I remember one group was told to choose their own GD topic. In such Cases, Background Study isnt of much help.It all comes down to the things one knows inherently, things which are accumulated by ones surrounding .In topics such as these, try to give out of the box solutions, so that the person remembers you during selection. Also, prior GD experience helps one in being calm and collected and to think clearly.
