Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
• Question 1: Will you join our company if you were to be posted in Aizwal?
• Question 2: Why do you want to join our company?
• Question 3: Do you have any aim in life?
• Question 4: Idiot, rascal, dumbo... These are the kind of words your manager says to you on a general basis. How would you receive them even if the mistake isn't yours?

The spirit with which you deal the interview matters most. If it is a stress interview, try to be as cool as possible.

Skill Tips
Any courses relating to infrastructure (IPM – offered by Ashwin Mahalingam ofCivil Dept will help).

Any BTP relating to infrastructure – like socio-economic evaluation of a project, that they liked in the resume, or performance in previous rounds etc.)taking BIM to govt, policy considerations etc would be job-fetchers.
General Tips
I started towards the ending of October. It would definitely help if I had started earlier. If you are aiming for deloitte you don't have start anytime earlier than october. As many don't aim for deloitte please don't start late and repent later. There will be plenty of time during the semester to prepare for whatever profile and job you are aiming for.

2nd & 3rd years

If you are aiming for core companies get a very good project, you can pitch about. The project has to be purely linked to the dept concept. For example, in civil engineering I did a project on fusing BIM and Gaming. Although it seems cool, it doesn't help at all as far as core interview is concerned

In general if a person is aiming at a finance or a banking company at least one internship in the respective field SHOULD be done to bring weight to your resume.

Round 1

Test

Interview Experience
The Test was an adaptive one, which means that the level of difficulty of the next question depends on the answer to the previous one. The test was very easy though, attempt all the questions and I think that should be enough to get you through.

The GD was a case study, we were divided into group of 8-9 and were given a case to discuss.5 mins to understand the case + 15 to discuss it amongst the group + 5 mins to present it.We all were being watched closely and they were jotting down every point made. So make relevant and good points (less is fine but good points)Speak clearly so that every other person should be able to hear what you are trying to sayThey might even ask you to add more to the discussion in the end, that doesn't necessarily mean that you are lagging behind in the scores.

Case Study Interview
Round 1

Case Study Interview

Interview Questions
• Question 1: An auto after sales company is not doing well. It has been found that their supply chain solution might not be very effective. They are considering 2 more options in redesigning their supply chain. Should they change their SC or not?
Interview Experience
The interviewer gave me the question and asked me to take a couple of minutes and asked me to write down the various factors that I should consider. I broadly asked about the existing supply chain details, various cost details, customer details.I made 3columns in the sheet of paper that was given to me . I wrote down the 3 categories and started listing down factors. After I asked him about the cost details and questions about the existing supply chain (How many distribution centers, distance to dealersfrom DC/facility etc. etc.), I was handed a sheet with all the information.
Interview Tips
The ultimate game was to figure out which supply chain option led to the highest profits. The way to go was to figure out costs and revenues for each optionand recommend one. 1. Be very structured. I was informed that what you write on the paper, how you write are looked at by the recruiter.2. Don't ask all the questions at a stretch. Give the big picture of what you are trying to do and then list down howyou plan to do and then start asking questions.3. Be prepared for some number crunching. Nothing tough but basic quantitative analysis will be needed. You will be expected to be good with arithmetic

Round 1

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
I consulted some of my batchmates and some seniors. Saw their resumes also and got a general idea of formatting, structure etc and general googling was always there.I attended almost all PPTs. Too much is not necessary, but Yes you should attend ppts of at least those companies whom you are interested in. it gives you the proper idea of kind of job profile and company and sometimes is decisive if you are not very sure for that company to sit for. I got some materials for case studies etc from my friends only. That material is very common in institute during placements. I also got some from my seniors. I prepared for psychometric test on internet. You can just google for some free psychometric test. Attaching a file which has some fundaes on HR and general interview preparation.
Interview Tips
I would suggest to start writing resume around a week before so that one gets enough time to consult seniors also.
Round 2

Test

Interview Experience
Procedure started with a general resume shortlist for written test. Written test was CAT based. Interviews were a mix of HR and guesstimates in 1st round followed by case studies in 2nd round
Round 3

Interview

Interview Experience
This was followed by a shortlist for interview about 52. there were two round of interviews. Around 25 people went for 2nd round and finally 16 offers were made 12 in S&O division and 4 in TI division.
Interview Tips
I believe preparing in groups is always beneficial as you will get to know at what point you are going wrong and for example while discussing case studies or guesstimates, you will get to know different approaches for the same problem. This would definitely help you if in case you get totally new situation during interview.

General Tips
Resume first of all. You never know which point of your resume is of interest of the interviewer. Secondly for a consultancy profile, Guesstimates and case studies are necessary. And general HR questions like about yourself, strengths weakness etc. Be confident. Never come in nbd. Stay cool. Try to keep eye to eye contact with the interview. General Tips Overall, any particular mistake that you committed during the whole process?
Don't under estimate yourself. Have patience.. dont go for any damn company just for the sake of getting a job. Be clear in which kind of companies you are going to sit for. Any key tips for interview-day, viz. dressing, etiquette. From my friends experience, reach on time for interview and switch off your cell phone.

Case Study Interview
Round 1

Case Study Interview

Interview Questions
• Question 1: Tell me something about yourself?
• Question 2: why consulting
• Question 3: About a project on wireless communications
Interview Experience
Nokia is currently the leader in the market for mobile phones in India. Motorola is far behind it and wants to increase its market share by around 10%. Give three suggestions for doing the same.

I started off by asking about the price segments in which the mobile phones are sold. These were sold in all categories from low price to the very expensive ones. Then I inquired if the features available in similarly priced models of other cos differed but the answer was no.
So basically price was not the issue.
Then i inquired if the expenditure on advertising was comparable to the other cos to which the answer was yes..
I suggested that probably the people were skeptical about certain features of the mobile sets, like their durability wtc. upon which the company never focused in advertisements. So probably a survey could be conducted to find if there is anything particular that the people are skeptical about.
Also the company could have a tie-up with CDMA vendors like reliance or TATA Indicom, where the mobile sets are provided along with the connection.
Interview Tips
You should be thorough with your resume and study the sectors related to your past projects pretty well.

Questions in general are easy. Conduct yourself professionally. Deloitte decides to allot you a profile depending on your score in this test most probably. So make sure you do well in this test. I think the highest scoring candidates are shortlisted for the S&O profile, though I am not sure about it.
Interview Tips
If you are up for a career in management consulting and can't possibly be shortlisted by Mckinsey or BCG, this is your golden opportunity. You have to do well in the test for it. Deloitte is one of the best places in the world for management consulting after MBB firms and I believe some people might have gotten selected for this profile just because they did well in this test (by fair or unfair means!!)
Round 2

Group Discussion

Interview Experience
You are given a case. Your group of 10 has to find a solution for a client. The process lasts for about 30 minutes. The key is staying calm and composed and not disputing and challenging others violently! At the end you are supposed to give a presentation on the problem and it solution, 5 minutes for each member.
Interview Tips
Speak less rather than speaking trash. Introduce yourself first when asked to give your part of the presentation and behave professionally, they check more on your professional behavior than the effectiveness of your solution. 50 % of the students passing this round generally make it to the offer. Hence this is the most important round. If you have done very well in this round you will probably do well in the PI.
Round 3

Behavorial Interview

Interview Experience
Behavioral questions base on your resume.
I had networked a bit with my interviewer before the interview because both of us were waiting to enter the interview room and it felt awkward not talking to him. I think that might have helped.

Dont go for a technology profile hoping you will get to enter the management consulting space some day. Technology consulting is a good career choice only if you are passionate about it, or else it is a disaster, since the only exit route is an MBA application.
Dont go without reading about the company, it was a big source of worry for me
Interview Tips
Answer the questions diplomatically. Appearing confident helps. I kept a smiling face no matter how tensed I was, that might help.
Know all the points in your resume and prepare to answer all behavioral questions you can possibly think of.
Have some questions to ask at the end of the interview.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
I felt the company loves to hire calm and professional people who can articulate themselves properly. And do well in the written test if you want a profile of your choice.
Deloitte is probably the only company to be able to compete with the likes of Mckinsey in management consulting and IBM in technology, at the same time. No doubt, it is a great brand name to work with. It is highly rated in both the fields.
Strategy and Operations is a very good career if you are looking for management consulting, they have a program to train and sponsor you for the best B-Schools in the world.
The technology profiles are good if you are passionate about technology and its integration.
So be careful about your choices.
General Tips
Its good if you have some extra academic involvement to have some discussion points during your PI. Or when you are asked about an achievement you are very proud of.
