  • Section 2: technical
Interview Experience
Before sharing my experience, i would like to say that that i had obsessed myself so much about cognizant that it placed a pressure bomb inside my head. i got invited for the interview.
So D-day arrived! I reached their office . No words can describe the environment they have created for themselves. Hats off Cognizant! The vibes coming out were positive, fun filled and attractive to a soon-going to be a graduate-counterculture-aspirant! I was asked to wait in the waiting room with other job aspirants. And that's when the time bomb started ticking inside my head! All aspirants were well dressed. Then i was called for the test. Overall it was too good experience i can say.
Interview Tips
Practice as much as you can.Practice exam technique and try to become more familiar with the types of test you may face by completing practice questions. You should work quickly and accurately through the test. Don’t get stuck on any particular question.Treat aptitude tests like an interview: get a good night's sleep, plan your journey to the test site, and arrive on time and appropriately dressed. Listen to the instructions you are given and follow them precisely.Work swiftly and accurately through any test. Never be in a hurry. Stay calm and attempt the test.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
15mins Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
views on Western culture and Indian culture
Interview Experience
there were 6 of us. We were asked to introduce ourselves and quote one embarrassing moment from our respective lives. The moderators were two young ladies. The introduction went quite smoothly . Few of us were quoting their childhood moments which for me i guess depicts that you have been a flop show lately on the fun side. My topic for Group Discussion was "Views on Western culture and Indian culture". We were given 30 seconds to prepare before we shoot off and as soon as they directed us to start. Then the GD started and The discussion went on for 12-15 minutes. I held on to my view through out the GD and was pretty much confident.and thankfully i was shortlisted to the final round.
Interview Tips
Be positive and prepare your thoughts well but do not be over-confident.Do not repeat a point, or be lengthy or irrelevant. Also intervene, if someone else is going on an irrelevant track.BE AS NATURAL AS POSSIBLE. Do not try to be someone you are not. Be yourself. In an attempt to be someone else, your opinions will not be portrayed.
GD evaluates how you can function as a part of a team. As a manager or as a member of an organization you will always be working in teams. Therefore how you interact in a team becomes an important criterion for your selection. So maintain good interactive skills.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: tell me about yourself?
Interview Experience
Now, i couldn't wait anymore, the bomb was racing in my head. I just wanted to go in and kill it before it blasts off. My patience was on test. At last, i was called! Tick tick tick... My body was shaking, my mouth had dried out and palms were sweating.. The pressure bomb had gone off! I was asked to introduce myself. he then introduced himself too, I told about my interests, my hobbies, and whatever was on mind.
He then asked me regarding my project of my final year and the technology used in it. I briefly gave him description of my project with a satisfactory answer. After that he gave me a task of anchoring. I was said to mimic as a TV anchor. It went well. and i was sent out for the results.

Finally after the interviews of all the students, we were given a break. They took the same and at around 11pm, all again gathered at the auditorium for the final result. Everyone was nervous regarding their selection. There was a lot of tension. Finally, they started announcing the names. I kept my fingers crossed and was continuously praying. After around 50 names, I heard my name. It was after that I felt relaxed. I thanked God and rushed out of auditorium to call my parents. They were so happy.
This was my first experience and I got selected. I was so elated. It was an ecstatic experience.
Interview Tips
Always think that if u need this particular job then at the same time, organization is also looking for good candidate…During interview always focus on what all skill sets you will bring to organization. Once you are clear on Job Requirement, make a list of probable questions and their answers i.e. what all an interviewer can ask you.Always BE HONEST during interview..If u don’t know any answer just accept the same rather trying to give wrong answers…Besides knowledge, organizations give lot of importance to people who are honest in approach and also flexible in their approach.I hope these tips may help.

Interview Process
Test Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
55 Minutes
No. of Questions
55 questions
Test Sections
  • Section 1: General Aptitute
  • Section 2: Logical Reasoning
  • Section 3: Verbal
Interview Experience
This round is the most common round in a general campus recruitment procedure. I have been practising for this round for quite some time, like for 4-5 months. And finally the day came. It was on 1st of September 2016. So it is still fresh in my mind. The test started at somewhere around 2 p.m (as because the number of computers were less than the number of applicants, so we were divided into batches). I was confident enough with the paper as i practised many of them at the time of preparation. We have been told that the paper will be adaptive type. But those who gave the test denied this fact. There were three rounds, aptitude, followed by verbal and logical reasoning. I was tensed at the time of the test as i was fresher and many had expectations from me. Verbal round was easy ( many questions were common with the previous years questions), logical round was easy too, but the aptitude round was a bit tricky. I did some grave mistakes in the aptitude round. So after the test was completed, i was surely not confident with the aptitude portion,(If you are unable to clear one of them, no matter how well you score in the others, you will be rejected). In the evening the results came and luckily i was selected for the second round i.e the technical round.
Interview Tips
KEEP PRACTISING THE QUESTIONS..!! Solve questions online as the final test will be machine based and not written. try to solve the question quickly. If possible, buy an aptitude book and solve questions from there. In the final test, If you can't solve a question, SIMPLY LEAVE it and go for the next question. NEVER EVER TRY TO SEE WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING. Its a grave mistake and can cost you your career. Do your best. Believe in yourself and let your hard work speak..!!
Good luck.!!
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me about yourself.
  • Question 2: Tell me about your project.
  • Question 3: Difference between primary key and unique key.
  • Question 4: A basic C program to find the frequency of an alphabet in a string.
  • Question 5: 2 trick questions.
Interview Experience
The technical round started at around 10-11 a.m. The interviewer was young and neutral at expression. It wasn't easy to judge how the interviewer was. He started with the default question which was "TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF". I practised that question for about 1000 times and as expected i nailed it. Then he went through my resume. I had included C,JAVA and DBMS as my skill sets. So the questions were from that portions only. i some how managed to answer them all. But i answered wrong in many of them. Seeing the body language of the recruiter. i was sure that i failed to impress him and i'll get rejected. But at last he asked 2 trick questions and i answered it LIKE A BOSS.!! That was the turning point of my interview and he was impressed with that. My interview was over there and shortly after, i was told that i was selected for the HR round. I was too excited as i was selected for the HR round.
Interview Tips
PRESENCE OF MIND IS THE KEY..!!! No matter how many wrong answers you give. One impressive right answer can get you your job. Recruiter is no machine or God. He is also a man. Be confident, speak well and to the point. If you don't know the answer, at least try once. Don't be overconfident and over smart. Be yourself. Practise Tell me about yourself thoroughly.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: How you started your day?
  • Question 2: Tell me about your hobbies.
  • Question 3: Do you have any problem in relocation?
  • Question 4: What if you are sent to Coimbatore? How will you manage there?
  • Question 5: Questions on modern day technology
Interview Experience
This round is simple conversation round. The HR will ask you question to see what you are. Your behaviour, your body language, your temper, etc, There is no rocket science to crack this round. If you manage to qualify for this round, Consider 90% job done. Be frank, jolly, answer questions to the point. Try to mix up with him. and always KEEP A SMILE ON YOUR FACE. You will definitely qualify..!!
Interview Tips
BE CONFIDENT & BE YOURSELF..!!

Books

General Tips
Start practising for the aptitude round from 4-5 months before the actual test. Practise from various enlisted websites. It helps a lot..!! Believe me. Strengthen your basic concepts. Give only those subjects in your resume with whom you are confident with. Do add your extra curricular activities. It helps.
Motivation for applying
Infosys is a big company with a very good reputation in the market. loads and loads of people are orking in the company which itself says how the company is.
Funny Moments
There were many. I am a bit humorous. So it was easy for me to make the environment light. Though i didn't cracked any joke, but my body language made it so..!!! I was asked that how will i manage with the transport system of the new place where i will go to work. As i am from Kolkata (one of the most busiest public transport system is here), i said that "Sir i have managed with the public transport here in Kolkata, transport in other city is a piece of cake for me..!!", and we both laughed. :-P

Interview Experience
I thought this one would be again technical interview as other students were having. Whats neural network, MC?

But mine was simple HR question.

I had already given 15 companies interview and I was fully saturated, running to Nalanda Complex from day 0. But still, had to fight to get the job.

Had started preparing for Placements since August. Had done GDs, Current Affairs, Case Study (Case interview Cracked + Victor Cheng), Guesstimates from Quora, Puzzles (400 puzzles, heard on wall street, placement questions of IIT Kanpur). Wanted to go in consulting company but due to certain constraints (nepotism and favourism by placecoms and Companies), had to settle with Cognizant. But, from my own side, I had given 100% effort.
Interview Tips
Make a good peer group for placement preparation. I used to have regular GD, discussion on current affairs, cases, guesstimates etc.

During placements, when thing would not be going in right direction, talking with your good friend instills a sense of confidence and a fighting spirit.

Its a backup - will see for off campus job, CAT result

Thanks to wingmates - Anup Mahakud, Gautam, Bharat and Ashutosh Prakash.

  • Section 3: verbal
Interview Experience
On 1st September 2016, Cognizant held this round at our college. We were initially told that it would be an adaptive paper but it was not so. We could not navigate between questions (both intra and inter section). There was a minimum number of questions which had to be attempted from each section else we would disqualify. The questions were easy and I found many questions common from AMCAT papers.
Interview Tips
Practice as much as you can. Try to learn shortcut tricks to solve the questions quickly and easily. Try to solve questions within certain time limit. Give online tests so that you are familiar with giving tests on machine. Do not waste time in a particular question. If you can't solve it then leave it( if there is negative marking) or answer randomly( if there is no negative marking).

  • Question 9: what are different phases of waterfall model?
  • Question 10: types of testing.
  • Question 11: practical question related to normalization and its theory.
Interview Experience
The interviewer asked me to introduce myself. I was nervous and so i fumbled in 2 or 3 sentences but then i took the pace. he chit chatted with me to release my pressure . he went through my resume and my marksheets. he asked a few HR questions and then started the technical interview. He asked me questions regarding microprocessors and electronics but I had prepared software subjects I being a CS student could not remember most of it. But I sill answered them with best of my knowledge. i told him that I would rather be comfortable with CS core subjects. then he shifted his focus to DBMS and Software Engineering I did not lose my calm although I was very nervous. I thought I would be rejected but finally I got selected.
Interview Tips
Don't be nervous as most of the interviewers are really friendly and they give ample chances to prove yourself. Try to practice the your introduction. They may ask your questions that are not from your domain but try to answer them with your presence of mind and previous knowledge. you may be nervous but don't show that on your face. Try to have basic concepts of your core subjects.

Round 2

Technical Interview

Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
There was only one round of interview. For CS, ECE n EEE,technical was asked along with HR. ....n it was mostly HR for non circuit branch students. However, u may face some tech. ques. if u tell them dat u have done some course on c++, java, etc.....bt they r just basic ones i.e., he asked just definitions coz wn he asked me abt my programming skills, I told him that I had done a course in c++, he asked things like what is c++, what is pointer n what is object oriented programming. He began d interview by asking me abt d test...like which section was d best4 me...etc,abt my schooling, then asked where did I stand in my class. Then he asked me what is biotech, what all subjects I had studied; 4m d subjects i had told, he asked me to define molecular biology..n then took 'molecule' 4m the definition n asked me wts a molecule, followed bt wts an atom..again came back to mol. biology...then asked me what is DNA? He then asked me y did i want to go into software industry, being a biotech student n what did i know abt their company, abt d recent movie I had seen n asked me to describe d best moment of my life saying that he just wanted to check my narration skills. He gave me one puzzle also saying that so far, none of the students had been able to solve that, he wanted at least some1 to solve that...I took around 2 mins...then gave up. Finally , he asked me abt the preferred place for relocation. It was a wonderful experience as it was my first interview . Initially, I was very tensed abt d technical part bt as I got feedback 4m d students whose interview was over that its mostly HR....I felt somewhat relieved. It was surprising when he began to ask techies 4m my field....albeit all of them were just basics...bt stillI had never expected such ques. n as such was not mentally prepared...evn in c++ , all 3 ques. were basic definitions bt i thought he would ask some conceptual or coding questions...but luckily , I answered almost all of them confidently. What I am trying to emphasize isprepare well d definition part also, if time permits, apart 4m conceptual n coding ques....coz at times...u know abt something bt are not able to define it properly...especially coz of stress factor during interview.
Skills

Skill Tips
The most important thing is ur confidence....be confident in wtevr u say...dont take too much time 4 replyin, if u<br /> dont know abt something , tell them frankly n honestly...they just check ur communication skills n English. Dont get nervous.. if they pose questions after questions by selecting a word from ur own answer..dont use any word which u r nt sure abt....u may get urself trapped. Finally, be honest while answering. For relocation, dont say any particular place as long as they dont stress atleast 3 times...maintain eye 2 eye contact. Dont panic if some unexpected ques. is posed..just answer confidently n honestly. For apti, there is no special need 2 prepare...u can crack it provided ur english grammar should be good. Skill Tips
Remember that you lose out on 100% of the opportunities that you never go for. To get what you want, ask for it. I fully believe that if I ask enough people for whatever I want, I can get it. This is not necessarily true and yet it’s a useful belief. As you think about your goals and what you are striving for, how effective would it be for you to believe that all the people out there want to help you if you only ask? Whether that is true or not in the “real world” does not matter. If you find that belief empowering, I invite you to adopt it as your own.
General Tips
Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Too often, we place excess importance on potential problems. We all have a certain amount of energy so let’s apply it to creating extraordinary relationships, advancing our careers and meeting our goals INSTEAD of wasting that energy worrying. Take action on what you have control over and minimize risks for what you don’t. Then invest your energy wisely.
Motivation for applying
My motivation would be "Take a daily step outside our comfort zone".
