Capgemini Consultant interview

AnonymousFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus for Consultant role at Capgemini
Interview Process
Test Group Discussion HR Interview Puzzle Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
3 hours Minutes
Interview Experience
I performed well in the written test, and there was a speaking and listening test too.  I felt quant was most important for the tests, fast mathematics, then technical questions. Technical questions generally asked by core companies. Some programming based companies also ask such technical questions.

Puzzles can help you in answering quant questions also. The tests were mostly MCQ. Some tests were there which had subjective question papers. None of the core companies had subjective type, but coding companies had such questions.

They were write a program to do *task* type questions. The programming language to write the code in, was our choice. The language options were C, C++, Python, Java. Python was rarely asked, though.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Interview Experience
Don't quite actually remember those topics. But, skills they wanted to test was to see how well they were able to express their ideas, but without outwardly disrupting others while talking.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
The interview was at least 40 minutes, with 5 minutes of HR interview for my current work profile.

The HR usually starts with “Tell me about yourself”. Then they go through the resume, and ask about the project (DDP, in my case) and internship. This was done by the HR team, just to see how the candidate is putting forth his ideas and contributions clearly.
Interview Tips
Since I cleared the tests, I was allowed to appear for the interviews, but after that, the CGPA played a major role in the final selection. Hence people with low CGPA had to perform exceptionally well to compensate for the low CGPA. However, I don’t know of the internal mechanism of shortlisting, so I was of the opinion that CGPA did not result in elimination of candidates, (except for the candidates who were eliminated due to the cutoff CGPA). But it played a role in the final selection.

For managerial positions, PoRs like coordships, coreships etc can be used to pitch your leadership qualities. They can start a chain of conversation that involves the work you did, on how you managed to execute the task efficiently, which ends up working in your favour.
Round 4

Puzzle Interview

Interview Experience
Two puzzles were given in the interview. I did well in both, hence got selected. Another puzzle was to measure 45 minutes of time elapsed by using two candles, both of which take 1 hour to burn out completely.
Skills

Skills Tested

  • Speaking Ability
  • Ability to express your ideas
  • Capable of managing things efficiently
Skill Tips
For handling pressure, I suggest that after the interviews are over, just eat and get a good night’s sleep. Preparing/analyzing about the performance in the interview would only make you more anxious, affects sleep, and this would affect your performance in the interviews the next day. The additional one hour of preparation is not going to make a big difference.
Resources

Preparation materials

Videos
  • Crash course Video lecture for C and Java,
Courses
  • Tutorials for DC++,
  • Course in R language from Coursera ,
General Tips
I was weak in thermodynamics, so he covered that course revision, for core placements. I prepared from the material sent by Shruti. That was all I prepared. The Coursera for R language was not that useful for me as I was looking for a managerial position. In case of resume shortlists, students who had done management, operations research or economics courses were preferred.<br />
Otherwise, one has to justify your selection through good pitching. Finance companies are sort of open minded; they are looking for people who would do the job. Anyways, they will be providing training, so the knowledge in finance gained through independent means is not quite significant. It will, however, give an edge in the tests, as finance and quant based questions will be asked. They won’t go deep info finance.<br />
I also suggest to freshies and second years to complete the core credited intern in the second year itself so that they can take up an intern of their choice, be it either research intern or core intern in their 3rd year summer. It offers much greater flexibility to the students. It will be useful, especially for non-core placements. I started preparing for the interviews late. I did not put pen to paper, to write down his answer for the ice-breaking questions like “Introduce yourself”. It would be better to write those answers down and get them polished, rather than trying to remember it and/or make it up spontaneously.

20 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Is Multinational company (MNC) or Indian IT company is best for a Fresher?
Interview Experience
GD was not a round included for Capgemini placement test,Pearson versant english test was there once you clear your apti but due to technical faults GD was the round taken. There was a group of 10 people and we were given topic and 5 mins for preparation then GD was started.I was the second one to speak on the topic,I was in the favour of MNC because I really feel that for freshers Indian IT company is not very great start.Rather if one starts with MNC then it gets a brand name associated with them and also global exposure for one.And also Indian IT sectors are largely collaborating with the MNCs so for fresher MNC is a good start than Indian IT company.
Interview Tips
I will suggest you to understand the topic well, jot down the points you want to say and then always initiate for the GD do not argue, just humbly disagree to the topic,do not get personal in it...as soon as you start the supervisor judges you so do not hesitate and just put your points confidently only your English is judged by this...

I was interviewed on-campus at Pondicherry Engineering College PEC Chennai for N/A role at Capgemini
    Interview Process
    Test Group Discussion HR Interview
    Round 1

    Test

    Interview Tips
    1. Attend all the questions even if negative marks are allotted.

    2. Know all the concepts. Take any book and go through the last five examples in each chapter.(Even though I did not refer any books, I recommend this because this is the most effective method that worked for my seniors who got placed in the same companies.)

    3. Have some practice (which your college must usually provide you).

    4. Spend more time on the section which you feel you are week.

    5. Know flow diagrams and C- programs.

    6. English is usually easy and if you did your mother tongue as primary language in your senior school then you need to pay attention to your English.
    Round 2

    Group Discussion

    Interview Tips
    1. Be bold and confident always.

    2. The more you talk the more attention you get (optimum limit: talk 5-7 times not more than that. It attracts negative marking.)

    3. Try initiating the GD or at least try and conclude.

    4. Make valid points, don’t bluff or go off topic.

    5. Don’t fight or argue with your colleagues (batch mates).

    6. Don’t express nervesnouss or fear.

    7. Never back down or give up when someone argues with your point instead politely state a fact and prove your point.

    8. Always carry a note pad and start writing everything you rememeber before and during the G.D or else you may tend to forget some important points. This method will give your mind some rest and keep you cool. Even if you forget you can always have a look at the note pad. If you are from Tamil medium(or your mother tongue) this will be more useful to you.
    Round 3

    HR Interview

    Interview Tips
    1. Stay confident.Interview in capegemini will always be a one-one interview. No panels.

    2. Wear Light Colored shirt and dark colored pant. Tie gives them a good impression about you. Always wear a tie.

    3. Memorize you career objective.

    4. Most of Cape Gemini’s HR questions will be from your resume. Prepare to tell something on your workshops and paper.

    5. Concentrate on your hobbies and areas of interest. Cooking up your hobbies/ experiences is equivalent to committing suicide.

    5. Prepare to answer the most dreadful question ”Why IT?”. My answer was something like this “We all are Engineers and we are here to offer solutions to problems and I am totally confident that I could offer Solutions in IT”

    6. My hobbies included blogging. My HR was interested in my unusual hobby and started asking questions about my blog Techatweb. So if you do something attractive most of the questions will be based on that. My interview time was 25 minutes total and half of the time I was asked questions about my blog.

    7. When allowed to ask questions, kindly ask some questions that will be useful for you and them.

    8. Kindly deny any drinks/beverages or food offered.
