Application
I was interviewed on-campus at NIT Surathkal for Trainee role at Bosch
Interview Process
Test Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Test Sections
  • Section 1: ONLINE TEST
Interview Experience
The first stage involves a test, comprising of around 40 questions, 25 technical questions and 15 logical reasoning and data interpretation questions together. Technical questions were from basic electronics books and also some micro-controller questions, and the LR and DI questions were like any normal questions you would come across for any normal aptitude test. Out of a total of 200 students who wrote the test, 60 or odd people were selected for the interview rounds.
Interview Tips
For aptitude part- Your brains, cause all the questions in this section is easy to solve.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
The 1st interview was the technical interview round where again basic electronics stuff like transistors as amplifiers, zener diodes and such other simple electronic devices. Here they also ask you about your projects (if any, hope you have done one!) and ask you to validate why you chose to do such and such a project and its relevance in the modern day. A word of caution here would be to put only those projects on your resume' which you can back up and clearly identify the role you have played in it, and explain with clarity on being cross-questioned.
Interview Tips
For the technical part- 8051 UC, 8086 UP, Boylestad, Gaykward.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
If you've done well in the 1st round , then you'll be handed a HR form , which you'll have to fill and wait for the HR round. Beware the HR round might be an elimination round (as some other websites do caution),so be your best, answer any HR question with confidence. Normal HR questions pertaining to family background and your interest in higher studies will be questioned. Hint: If you're interested in doing your GRE/GATE after 4th year, you might not want to mention that. But i didn't have that dilemma to face, but my friends did, so be careful.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
This experience of joining the company that you always dreamed of working for, is truly an exhilarating one. Wishing you all whoever's reading this Gyan edit, will enjoy the experience as much as i did.
Focus on electronic devices, everything from basics, and read up all the books mentioned above by me, and try to remain calm and confident during the whole process.
General Tips
I have been placed in 3 companies including ROBERT BOSCH, the other 2 being TCS and IBM. Maybe what i want to tell you guys reading this is that, no matter which company you have been placed in / or not placed in, you should always pursue your dream company no matter what, because it is the dream company that gives us true satisfaction of having been placed. I know many of my friends who have been placed but are not happy with having been placed. This s not an emotion that you want to spend during your final year, or even in your life. Had i not been placed in BOSCH , i probably would have pursued it off campus. So to sum it all up, sit for companies you only want to get placed in, or it is similar to having an Eclairs, while you always dreamt of the Bournville.
Typical questions that one should ask during the interview should be (if the interview went smoothly) is "What role/ responsibility will i be allotted to if i join the company?", "What is my career growth?", "Any compensation is being offered or not? "and finally (if the salary is unreasonably low), ask them about the salary and all the benefits involved in it.
Test Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Interview Experience
Totally 90 mins test. First test 60 min which contained general apti. Second test 30 min which contained technical apti. Each question carried one mark, -.25 for wrong answers. In general apti 20 questions were from quants, other 40 included verbal, reasoning, data analysis.Technical apti included questions from thermal, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, heat and mass transfer, metallurgy, manufacturing, Ic engines. These questions included theory sort of direct questions, relations based on formula and graphs and other numerical problems. Though numerical problems were lengthy to solve the data given was easy to eliminate and the solving procedure was just to remember the formula and continue the problem with fluency. for example some of the value of given data were equal to constants like µ,ϒ, R. So that we can easily solve the problem without going for tedious calculations. Relations based on cycles like otto, diesel and turbine and pump calculations were given, for this type of problems we should be thorough with the formula, graphs and change in values based on increase in pressure and temperature. Metallurgy problems also had similar questions for which we need to consider the change in properties of the materials based on increase/ decrease in temperature/ pressure. Only fluid mechanics problems had direct substitution problems. Vibrations chapter is important when considering strength of materials. Manufacturing technology questions were direct theory questions. Most of the people considered bosch written round was difficult. But i felt it was easy. We need to be thorough with our basics and first round we will be easy. Here Technical apti marks are more important compared to general apti. It took the first day for them to conduct written test for 5 departments. Results were announced around 7pm.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
Shortlisted candidates were made to attend the technical hr next day. Mechanical and CS students had different panels whereas all Electronics students had common interview panel.Next day there was a pre placement talk. There was a presentation etc etc,,,For most of the mechanical students tech round was split into 2. We had to face one hr in each.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Introduce yourself.
  • Question 2: Questions about our family, school, college, friends,
  • Question 3: Questions about hobbies.
  • Question 4: Extra-curricular activities.
  • Question 5: The reason y u preferred engg, mech
  • Question 6: The reason y u prefer bosch.
  • Question 7: They would ask whether u have any questions for the hr (be ready with a question).
Interview Experience
The questions were from basics. They also asked about implant training, field of interest and CADD related questions (i mentioned solidworks Pro-E and Ansys in my software skills). They were impressed by the way I answered about my trainings and software skills. Inspite of the technical knowledge they selected only people who were confident about their answers, though confident about wrong answers will give only negative impressions. For those who mention themal, IC Engines, pumps, turbines, heat treatment be thorough with the graphs. Basics included Heat n mass transfer, fluids and thermal. There were questions, where we have to apply the formula to find answers for practical questions. They didn’t consider much about the communication skills. Yet we have to present ourselves in a better way. The short listed candidates from tech rounds were immediately made to attend personal Hr.
Skills

Skills Tested

    General Tips
Don’t choose vast areas like manufacturing, Thermal, as field of interest. Instead choose specific topics like casting, welding , suspension system. (u can more than one field ) and be thorough with those particular topics. If you are not sure about the answers admit them that u don’t know the answer, but don’t follow the same for each n every question.

    Resume Shortlist

    Interview Experience
The shortlist came only 3-4 hrs before the commencement of interviews so I didn’t have enough time to prepare anything extra after the list was forwarded.
    Round 4

    HR Interview

    Interview Questions
    • Question 1: Tell me about yourself .
    • Question 2: Why Bosch ?
    • Question 3: Were you interviewed in any other company ?
    • Question 4: Will you be able to manage working/living away from home ?
    • Question 5: Strengths and Weaknesses.
    Round 5

    Technical Interview

    Interview Questions
    • Question 1: What did you do at Gtec, Whirlpool (Summer intern) ?
    • Question 2: What is your interest area ?
    • Question 3: Pressure variation in an IC engine
    • Question 4: Working of a spark/ignition plug
    • Question 5: Force analysis of a spark plug
    • Question 6: Stresses in pure bending and its variation over the length
    • Question 7: Detailed drawing of a rectangular block in any projection with dimensions, tolerances, surface finish etc.
    Interview Experience
The interviewee had a cross-sectional diagram of a fuel injector and there was a graph plotted versus time against it, showing the variation of fuel pressure at 2 places, positions of movable parts in the plug, etc based on which he asked me to tell how the fuel injector worked. He later also asked me force analysis of a movable rod in the injector. Initially, he was mainly asking me the questions related to engines though I told him that my interest area is FEM and simulations. Once my interview was over and I moved out, after 2-3 minutes he again called me back and this time he asked me technical questions related to my interest area only. I answered almost all questions related to engines correctly, so you need to be prepared to answer questions which are not your interest area. I failed to answer a question about variation of stresses over the length of a bended circular beam and I also said that I am not good at fluid mechanics when he asked me about it.

      • FEM (ME623),
      General Tips
      Do’s :
1) Revise all courses well beforehand.
2) Get your resumes reviewed by others or at least review it yourself multiple times and ensure that there are at least no spelling or grammatical mistakes.
3) Be prepared to answer any questions related to any software/concept/mechanism mentioned in your resume.
4) Be prepared to answer questions like Tell me about yourself, why this company, why should we choose you/what sets you apart compared to others etc.
5) Ask seniors what all to prepare for specific companies you are targeting.

Don’ts :
1) Don’t target everything that comes. If you don’t get specific to what kind of job you want you may end up not being prepared for either of them.
2) Don’t claim software's or concepts that you don’t know well or haven’t contributed anything to in your resume.
3) Don’t by heart answers to obvious questions word to word. Just make up the points and frame it on spot.
4) Don’t think that because of poor CPI you don’t have any chance. Preparation matters a lot. People with low CPI but good preparation get placed on day 1.
Round 6

      Interview

      Interview Experience
Interview lasted for 50 minutes. I was grilled on the two internships that I had done during last two summers. And about 15 minutes of grilling on a self study course -CNC Machining just because I happened to be the class rep. There was a single guy questioning and not a panel which is good in some ways. He asked me if I had good quantitative skills. I replied yes. And then he asked a lot of math puzzles. Nothing too tough.
      Interview Tips
Just go through placement materials. Make sure you have a core resume for and you are thorough with everything you have written. Be prepared for anything. Learn the basics of important topic and practice some online core tests.SoM, IC engines, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Mantech, TurboMachinery should be prepared properly . And also, be perfect on the projects and intern described in the resume.
      Skills

      Skills Tested

      • Leadership skills
      • Managing people.
      Skill Tips
I think I was selected because of my performance in both the rounds. Throughout both the interviews they were more concerned about leading and managing people. In my case my PORs helped me, to answer those questions by giving suitable examples and confident answers. They also looked for manufacturing profile. So projects related to manufacturing sector will help you in the interview.

      • HR prep: Get to know about the various type of HR questions(many files in LAN),
      General Tips
I started preparing for placements from October mid. Starting earlier always helps you. I did not prepare for non-core companies. Quant and Verbal through CAT preparation(improve your speed and accuracy) , Core from GATE book, notes, slides (according to the company profile) , Conducted around 7 wing GDs (get to know the mistakes) , helped me a lot in the whole placement preparation process.

An online test for the first round consisting of 60 questions with aptitude(including a couple of C questions) and tech equally divided - +1, -.25 marks. About a dozen students were shortlisted from each branch.
      Interview Tips
Arun Sharma Quant for aptitude. I didn't particularly prepare for the tech part, just brushed up on the basics.
Prepare Digital electronics, Microprocessors(8051), Control Systems for the online test.

      Skills

      Skills Tested

      Skill Tips
GET's go through 2 months of training in all divisions before being assigned to any specific one. You can ask them to elaborate on this process and whether or not they are flexible for inter-dept transfers after a couple of years. If they have a product that has just come out or is something you can relate to, do mention.
      General Tips
Do not bluff in your resume. Keep it concise. In the tech round they made me explain every aspect covered in my resume in detail: Internship, Projects, workshops etc. If you mention that you are good at something(say C++/Java), be prepared to answer questions on it. Be confident! Remember, the company should be proud to recruit you! In almost all interviews the first question asked is "Tell me something about yourself" You don't want to start off by saying "Errrrr ..(pause) " Do some research on the company and ask them questions (try to be original here!)
Please do not waste your time sitting for companies you have absolutely no desire to work in (YES this happens a LOT) regardless of pressure from parents/friends/PC's. Instead, prepare for the profile you want! If you have clarity on this regard, things will work out. There will be ups and downs (mostly downs, till you get placed) but don't be disheartened. During placement, Patience is paramount.

They showed a CAD drawing and asking the meaning of symbols, then they asked questions related to general designs available in our surroundings like why is that sewage hole round on the ground why not square or others. If you are in Mechanical, they will ask u core Mech subjects. So please first prepare very well subjects related to your respective interns. A whole interview can be drawn on that. In my case it was IC engine so I answered all the questions related to it and that didn't allow them to ask in any other topic.

      • Question 2: What irritates you most..?
      • Question 3: What do you do in such situations..?
      • Question 4: Are you a leader or a follower...?

      Interview Experience
It was gen. All HR rounds just want to test how much positive you are in life, whether you will leave the company soon.
      Interview Tips
Be prepared with answers beforehand. The answers to all the above questions should be "depends on the
situation" and describe them in which situation u will choose which one. PS: if it’s a panel where HR is also there, they will try to excite you by asking gen questions like which team you support in IPL, do u have any gf etc. to make you lite, then again shoot you with some questions. Please don’t get deviated by those.

Mock tests, Aimcats, Gate book. For GDs, we organised them in our wing. It was very helpful.
Kindly do it often in your wing and among your batch mates too. Same goes for interview. There
are lots of general interview questions available on FTP server, prepare for them well and have
mock interviews. "Alumni interviews" were very helpful, please attend that. Randstad sessions were an absolutely waste of money and time. I was mainly selected due to my internship with Bosch. Prepare all subjects related to your intern. It will be the game changer.
