CGPA Group Discussion HR Interview
Round 1

CGPA

Interview Experience
No written round, shortlisted on CGPA basis (more than 7.5 CGPE upto 7th sem).
Round 2

Group Discussion

Group Discussion Topic
Case Study
Interview Tips
Have knowledge about the latest political and economic issues as it is topic of almost GD’s.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Summer Training
  • Question 2: Projects Undertaken
Interview Experience
Two Rounds of interview
1st Round interview was purely technical
A Group of 6 jury member conducted the round. Level of question was high when compared with other companies, mostly questions were application based from Fluid mechanics, Hydraulic machines, Manufacturing, Material science & I. C. Engine.
2nd Round interview was H R based
Questions were easy but a little bit tricky.
I think projects undertaken was my strongest zone, I have done 15 projects in my B.Tech and I was a part of many technical and cultural activities in the college fest. With having one of the heaviest CV I presented my technical, managerial, leadership and creative skills in front of the jury. They asked me to explain one of the case study that I have presented in Cairn Ace on “making India energy self-sufficient by 2030” & I was able to grasp their attention with my points.
The interview was really fantastic, interviewers were highly knowledgeable, experienced and they went into the depth of each subject. It is not only the right answer that matters but how confidently you present your answer.
Interview Tips
I suggest to the viewers to take summer training seriously as it matters in most of the companies. You should clearly know what your weaknesses are and present them straight forward if interviewer ask but prepare an answer what efforts you have made or making to improve them.
NO one is prefect but your efforts really make a difference.
General Tips
1. I will suggest them to focus on all round development rather than just confining to a high CGPA.

2. You should clearly know what your weaknesses are and present them straight forward if interviewer ask but prepare an answer what efforts you have made or making to improve them.

NO one is prefect but your efforts really make a difference.

3. Have knowledge about the latest political and economic issues as it is topic of almost GD’s.

Group Discussion Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Group Discussion

Duration
15 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Should subsidies made available to all the people
Interview Experience
There were no written tests conducted. The initial shortlisting was cgpa based. Students (without category) above 8.56 were shortlisted and in the case of category, all students who applied were shortlisted. 2-3 minutes were given for preparing the points and then the GD lasted for around 15-20 minutes. In all 14 students were there in a GD batch. I initiated the discussion saying subsidies should not be given to all the sections but only should be targeted towards the lower income groups. Try to be aggressive and actively take part in the discussion and always try to initiate the discussion as it would definitely make an impression. Try to give statistical data like for example the mfg cost for LPG is around 800/- whereas we are getting it for around 400/- and so on.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
The interview panel consisted of two people. A HR guy and a technical person. On the technical part, they asked me to design a heat exchanger by giving some basic data, details as in which fluid will be sent through the tubes and why ?. Then they asked me about the effect of Reynolds number inside the exchangers. They asked me about pumps and NPSH. Questions were also asked on vacuum distillation. Why we should do it and what is the principle behind it. How the flashing occurs when it reaches the vacuum, etc. They also asked me questions from my industrial training (maybe because I had done it in the petroleum sector). They asked me about FCCU and important parts of the FCCU, how the catalysts are regenerated and on other units in the refinery. (There might be other questions asked, but I remember only these).
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Experience
First they asked about me. Their HR questions were all basically asked from what I had mentioned in my "about me" part. They asked me examples and justifications as to why i felt i had the mentioned qualities. So frame your about me part carefully. They basically tormented me with a zillion questions...like a stress interview (atleast that was how i felt....was a bit of demoralizing...but i think they were just checking as to how i handled and responded to such situations). I was given scenarios and they checked as to how i responded. I guess in the end, the basic thing they were trying to check was the student's communication skills and not whether you are a great team member or a leader, etc.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
I suggest you to prepare on the basic fundamentals of chemical engg. and not formula and equation crunching. Of course you'll need to know the very basic ones. Concentrate more on distillation; pumps, compressors; heat exchangers, heat transfer; petroleum refining. As i said try to be aggressive and make valid and sensible points during the GD. I really would like to add here that i observed most of them talking irrelevant things because they were just eager to TALK. so don't do that. And in the interview observe basic manners (wishing, knocking before entering, etc.) and be calm throughout the interview. and ALL THE BEST TO YOU. DO WELL.

It is assumed that PSUs generally look for the highest pointers and take fixed no. of students based on categories (Gen/OBC/SC/ST). But the results were disappointing for EEE students.
