I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Kanpur for Investment banking role at Bank of America
Interview Process
Test Resume Shortlist HR Interview Group Activity
Round 1

Test

Duration
75 minutes Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Verbal Ability
  • Section 2: Basic Programming
  • Section 3: Quant aptitude
  • Section 4: Logical Reasoning
Interview Experience
Common test for both profiles (IT and Investment Banking). Practise for programming questions if are not at all into coding. Rest all will be standard 'AMCAT' questions
Interview Tips
Don't panic just by looking at programming questions. Some of them were easy and only required common sense to find out output of some given code.
Round 2

Resume Shortlist

Interview Experience
CPI may play a role. You may have an edge if you have mentioned some projects and courses related to finance. The initial shortlist is very rational and unbaised; mainly based on test (they provided detailed analysis of our test performance, so the process of shortlisting was totally based on merit).
Interview Tips
Apply for investment banking if you want to work in finance. Do *not* apply for IT profile if you don't want to code. That doesn't mean that IT profile is not good (compensation is the same and if you like to code it's a good work profile). If you apply for both; you will be interviewed for both the profiles.
They allowed walk-in interviews as well; so even if you were not shortlisted earlier, go there and ask to the SPO guys for walk-ins.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Why finance? Why not your core branch?
  • Question 2: Questions regarding financial intruments like derivatives, forwards-futures, options etc.
  • Question 3: How would you fit in? (give me some reasons to hire you)
  • Question 4: Some highlights from your resume?
  • Question 5: What does Bank of America do?
  • Question 6: What is investment banking?
Interview Experience
There were 2 rounds for each profiles. I was interviewed twice for IT profile and only once for investment banking profile.
Questions will be asked on finance. If you have mentioned some finance/economics related project or course; be prepared to explain it.
I was also asked a puzzle (standard one).
Interview Tips
Read about finance (basic level concepts); but be ready to be grilled more if you give correct answers to easy questions.
Round 4

Group Activity

Interview Experience
7 guys were shorlisted for the final selection. They gave us three rapid fire GDs back to back.
Topics- 1. Android vs ios | 2. Five things you'll need to survive in a jungle for 1 month | 3. How to prevent another Lehmann brothers like disaster?
Interview Tips
Be confident. Don't try to create a fish market and chaos. I think they ultimately look for sense in the points you make.

Bank of America Software developer interview

Jayanth Reddy RegattiFresherSelected
Application
I was interviewed on-campus at IIT Hyderabad for Software developer role at Bank of America
Interview Process
Other Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Other Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Questions on Data Structures
  • Question 2: Logical Question: You are a captive. If you say the right answer, the assasin will hang you, if you say the wrong answer, he will shoot you. How do you escape?
  • Question 3: Other aptitude questions
Interview Experience
One year since I took the interview, so no idea exactly what questions they asked. But I was asked to write the code on paper in front of him and was asked to debug it. Some puzzles and aptitude questions along with other basic coding questions. It was great that the guy was interactive and started asking about my projects and college life.
Btw the answer to the logical question is: I should say " you will shoot me". Paradoxical.
Interview Tips
Feel free to ask anything that you would like to know from them. Also frankly say that you don't know a certain topic if you have no clue what it is about. They don't like people wasting their time.
Round 2

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: One coding question.
Interview Experience
This was not exactly a technical interview. He asked me to write a code to find the day of week when a certain date in any year of the calendar is given. I answered it and then he starting asking general questions as to why do u want to join the company, etc.
I gave answers to most of them convincingly. But I kept him engaged by explaining my life at college, the extra curriculars I did at college. Also I asked him about his experience as a software engineer. I asked him to reflect upon his career and how I should approach about my career.
Interview Tips
The best part about HR interviews is they expect you to ask them lots and lots of questions. The more they are engaged, the more are your chances of impressing and getting selected. And more importantly, ask the interviewer about his experience with the present firm. This also works with my manager when ever he has a one on one with me :P
Cheers and all the best.

Interview Tips
You should be confident of what you are. As it is believed that quality matters than the quantity. What I think the main requiremnet is the acceptance of your cons and your faults. Rejection should be used as a weapon and not as your doom.

Message them but don't tell them in front of the PANEL. HAVE ALL YOUR CERTIFICATES ready when your sitting for placements all GRADE SHEETS,Xth,XIIth,Icard, PHOTO because any company may ask any of these things at any time. The HR guy was a real nutbreaker.. Actually he is a funny guy, but he acted really scarily and darkly during the interview. He asked me whether i would be able to work nite shifts, whethr i wud b able to relocate at any of their offices in Hyd, Delhi,Mumbai n Chennai. I said yes, but i would prefer not mumbai since there the cost of living is a bit high. Then he said no, the company doesn't care what u prefer, which was v.rude. but i said ok, as it is, location wise , i have no problems. Then he asked if i had applied to any other company and if i had given CAT, n i neatly sidestepped those questions, as is the usual custom. that was it. He went on to inform me about training duration(6 months-5 day week, may be night shifts, and no holidays during the initial 6 months). posting would be their choice. Evaluation is yearly, with promotion after 2 years.
